Student Leadership Badges

## The presentation of JSC badges will occur this Friday the 24th of February at the school assembly. Olivia Blake the Creswick

Primary School – School Council President, will be presenting the badges to the JSC members.

Welcome to School – Picnic – Thursday 16th February,

2017

Well over 200 parents, children and staff attended the school picnic

last Thursday. The temperature for the evening was perfect and

families got the opportunity to mingle with others and engage in the

activities set up by the student leaders.

The evening finished off with a visit to the classrooms where the

children showed their parents their seating area, work and learning

routines.

School Council AGM – Notice of Election and Call for Nominations

The nominations for the School Council vacancies are now open. Forms are available at the school office.

This is a great opportunity to support Creswick Primary School.

Nomination for School Council opened on the 20th February and will close on Monday 27th February, 2017.

Student Achievement – QuickSmart Maths

Last year the school supported 16 students on the QuickSmart Program. Each student received three, thirty minute sessions per week

throughout the year where the students learnt number facts, some problem solving and graphing.

The children were pretested and post tested and this data is sent away to be aggravate with data from over 600 schools across Australia.

The results for 2016 were outstanding with a mean improvement of at least 3 years in the one year. Well done to students, teachers and

tutors.

In 2017 another group of 18 students have started the QuickSmart Program and we are confident their success will be equally

outstanding.

Extra-Curricular Athletic Sports – Wednesday 1st March – At Llanberris Athletic Reserve, Ballarat

The whole school Athletic Sports is fast approaching. The weather for next Wednesday is predicted to be around thirty degrees so we

will be monitoring this closely as the day approaches.

An updated information sheet will come home on Tuesday next week to explain any changes that might occur due to hot conditions.

(eg. Earlier finish etc) The likely change is that all relays will occur back at school on a date to be determined.

At this stage everything is ‘GO.’

We encourage all students to try their personal best and be pleased with their own effort, no matter where they finish in the race or

event.

There have been some parents who have been asking about the Parents/Students/Teacher relay. This is normally the last of the event

at the Athletic Sports and the staff team currently holds the title.

If there is time, the Parent/Student/Teacher relay will happen but there are some rules for this event:

1. Teams of six with at least 3 female runners

2. No high heels

3. No pushing, biting or scratching

4. If the staff team gets beaten there will be a protest

5. The judge’s decision is final

World Read Aloud Day

Students of Creswick Primary School celebrated World Read Aloud Day with Creswick Hub Team Leader, Lee Taylor. On Thursday 16th February, students laughed with delight as Lee entertained them with books by Australian children’s authors Andy Griffiths and Aaron Blabey.

Through hearing stories, children are exposed to wide range of vocabulary, it helps develop their imagination

and discover new things. As quoted by Dr Seuss, ‘You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book’.
