Goal 1: Improve Math

Content Area: MathDevelopment Status: Complete

Student Goal Statement: All students will be proficient in math in accordance with common core standards by2014.

Gap Statement: MEAP Summary Report shows gaps in fractions, decimals, multiplication, division, geometryskills/shapes,area and perimeter, computation, measurement and connections. Currently there is a gap betweenproficient and non-proficient students.

Cause for Gap: Analysis of curriculum alignment using the MEAP report and Pinnacle Insight indicates thatstudents performed at a lower level on items assessing geometry, measurement, and basic computation skills. Many students are ESL learners. The new cut scores have increased this gap. Other indicators include a need forimproved alignment to the Common Core State Standards and common assessments

Multiple measures/sources of data you used to identify this gap in student achievement: MEAP, Terra Nova,Pinnacle Insight, Golden Package, Delta Math

What are the criteria for success and what data or multiple measures of assessment will be used to monitorprogress and success of this goal? Leonidas Elementary will strive to show growth on all measures noted above.

List of Strategies:Name StrategyCommonAssessments

The staff will identify and implement common math assessments and align curriculum withthe Common Core.

CurriculumAlignment

Staff will align and implement Common Core State Standards. This will be accomplishedby creating curriculum maps which include pacing guidelines at each grade level.

Research BasedInstruction

Teachers will implement Common Core Standards with fidelity, including activities thatsupport learning of geometry, fractions, and computation instruction through daily drills, games and manipulatives.

1.1.1. Strategy: Common Assessments

Strategy Statement: The staff will identify and implement common math assessments and align curriculumwith the Common Core.

Selected Target AreasI.2.A.3 A collaborative culture that incorporates a philosophy of continuous improvement exists at theschool or within a program. Staff members work as teams to gather and analyze information and makedecisions regarding the modification of their instructional practice.I.3.A.1 Assessments are aligned with the curriculum and instruction. They have been designed by matchingthe appropriate measurement method to the type of learning targets (knowledge, reasoning, skill, performance or disposition.)I.3.A.3 Student assessment is viewed as an essential component in the monitoring of student achievement.Aligned standardized assessments, periodic benchmark assessments as well as a variety of culminatingassessments are incorporated into daily practice. In addition, teachers use frequent formative assessmentactivities to inform instruction.

Goal 2: Improve Reading

Content Area: English Language ArtsDevelopment Status: Complete

Student Goal Statement: All students will be proficient in Reading in accordance with Common Core StateStandards by 2014.

Gap Statement: Our needs assessment showed that we have proficiency gaps in the areas of Informational Text,Comprehension, and Word Recognition/Word Study. DIBELS data shows a wide range of gaps with the largestoccurring in the upper grades. 100% of the students are at risk based on socio-economic data. Approximately 50%of the population is labeled English Second Language. We will continue to focus on Reading Comprehension,Informational Text, Word Recognition/Word Study and Fluency skills to further our academic achievement inthese areas.

Cause for Gap: Prior knowledge deficiencies; vocabulary mastery deficits; more than half the students score asEnglish Second Language learners; socio-economic data would qualify 100% of the student population as at risk.Multiple grades leads to limited instructional time.

Multiple measures/sources of data you used to identify this gap in student achievement: MEAP Scores*Benchmark Common Assessments * Terra Nova * Pinnacle Insight * DIBELS * Title III English SecondLanguage After School Literacy Program * ELPA

Goal 3: Improve Science

Content Area: ScienceDevelopment Status: Complete

Student Goal Statement: All students will be proficient in science according to the Common Core StateStandards by 2014.

Gap Statement: MEAP Score distribution show proficiency gaps in science processes, physical science, andearth science. Science strand analysis reveals that a high percentage of our students are not proficient in all areasof science. There was an overall gap in proficiency of 15% between (the higher score)life science and (the lowerscore) physical science.

Cause for Gap: Instructional time is impacted by teaching multiple grades within one classroom. A reason for thegap is science instruction with fidelity. There is a significant number of students that are ESL learners.Implementation of science curriculum alignment is needed. Materials for science instruction is needed.

Additional RequirementsComprehensive Needs Assessment

The comprehensive needs assessment (CNA) requirement is met by completing a School Data Profile/Analysis(SDP/A), School Process Profile, and Summary Report. The comprehensive needs assessment must be completedprior to creating a new plan or annually updating an existing school improvement plan.

Use the results of the comprehensive needs assessment to develop Goals/Objectives/Strategies and Activities.Ensure that the Gap Statements and Causes for Gaps included in the Goals information address all four measuresof data: student achievement data, school programs/process data, perceptions data (must include teachers andparents; student data is encouraged), and demographic data.

    1. How was the comprehensive needs assessment conducted?

We analyzed the School Process Rubrics and addressed areas of need within the School Improvement Plan. The School Data Profile confirmed areas of need.

Curriculum Alignment that Corresponds to the Goals
