Introduction

The Governance Support team works in partnership with governing bodies and

school leaders to support them in their journey to outstanding.

We understand the importance of the governing body in setting a school’s strategic direction, and in holding

school leaders to account for educational standards and financial management. Our training, information and

support networks are designed to give governors the skills and information they need for excellence, whilst our

expert team keeps our customers ahead of the curve in uncertain times through network events and training.

In addition, the Clerking Service provides expert, fully trained clerks to fulfil the statutory role of Clerk to the

Governing Body. This is a separate, complimentary service available from North Yorkshire Education Services.

Whether your school is facing a school improvement challenge, an Ofsted Inspection, or is working to maintain its excellence and its outstanding judgement, effective governance plays an increasingly important role. In addition to the core package, we offer a wide range of training and services for governors, including but not limited to:

Training:

• Headteacher appraisal (performance management)

• Working with your governing body (for new Headteachers)

• Complaints

• Introduction to Governance (for new governors)

• The role of the chair (for new Chairs of Governors)

Services include:

• Governance Healthcheck – an evaluation of your Governing body’s protocols and working practices

• Governance Review – incorporating the health check, but also evaluating the effectiveness of your governing body.

School Improvement Service – Governance Every school a great school

I thought you might appreciate a brief update on the impact your work has had on governance at Threshfield School.

The School Adviser and Lead Adviser visited school today and I think it is safe to say they were pleased with our progress!Following a Review of Governance

I raised some questions – the trainer addressed them and gave, I thought, excellent strategies for ways of dealing with my concerns. I have gained confidence in posing questions during link visits. From a regular training course

“Really useful information. I am now clearer about what governors do and what they don’t do!”(Introduction to Governance Training)
