Athletic passes for Senior Citizens

Junior High Locker Reorganization

Thank you Clear Lake Physical Therapy

The School District of Clear Lake Board of Education in recognition of the support that senior citizens have provided the District and that senior citizens often live on a fixed income offers all citizens of the District age 62 or older a complimentary pass to all Home Clear Lake athletic events. Please come into the District office at the High School to receive your pass. Thanks for supporting our athletes!

For some time we’ve wanted to reorganize the locker area in the Jr. High wing. We’re making it happen this summer! Our custodial staff was up to the challenge of disassembling and moving our current lockers for more convenient student use and space management for our staff! You can feel the space opening up! Thanks custodial staff for your efforts this summer to make our buildings a great place to learn and work!

Thank You Clear Lake Physical Therapy and Rehab for donating over $2,200 to Clear Lake Athletics! The money was raised during Clear Lake Days 5k run. Pictured is Emily Monson (owner) and Dale Rosen, Clear Lake School District Athletic Director.

Homecoming 2016 at CLHSThe week of October 3rd – 8th is Homecoming Week at Clear Lake High School. Levy one of top scorers in the State!

Earth Day and Service Learning Day

Congratulations goes out to Sophomore Hunter Levy, who was one of only 45 students in the state of Wisconsin to receive the American Legion’s Americanism and Government Scholarship for 2016!

Some 4,000 Wisconsin high school students took the Legion’s Americanism and Government Scholarship test in April, and Hunter was one of the top 45 scorers, and one of the top 15 sophomores, in the entire state. Hunter will receive a $250 scholarship for his awareness and knowledge of our rights and privileges that we have as American citizens.

Standing with Hunter are the other top scorers from their respective grades,

Junior Logan Raschick, Junior Dylan Davidson, and Sophomore Jared Katz. Ian Ruble and Seth Erickson were top scorers from the Senior class.

Special thanks goes out to the American Legion, local Clear Lake Legion Post #108, local Legion member Bob Buhr and Mr. Crawford for assisting in the process! Congrats Hunter and the other top scorers!

In May Mr. Crawford’s Contemporary History students were able to meet Clear Lake resident, Neil Lillie. Standing here next to his granddaughter, Camryn, Mr. Lillie spoke to the students about his experiences serving 6 ½ years in the US Air Force. A Vietnam veteran, Mr. Lillie served on search and rescue missions for soldiers from 1969-1970. Much of Mr. Lillie’s presentation also focused on his return trips to Vietnam. In recent years, Mr. Lillie has volunteered for the organization, Globe Awareness, has raised money, and delivered s c h o o l supplies for underprivileged school children in Vietnam. Our Clear Lake students learned a great deal from his visit, and we would like to thank Mr. Lillie for visiting our class and

for serving our country!Students in Mr. Crawford’s C o n t e m p o r a r y History class learned a great deal from guest speaker, Jerry Uhl, on Monday, May 16. Mr. Uhl served as a tank operator for the 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry of the U.S. Army in Vietnam, from 1966-1967. Mr. Uhl also goes by “Grandpa,” to high school junior, Jake Doyle! Mr. Uhl shared some of both his in-country, and stateside experiences while serving. Informative and entertaining, Mr. Uhl captivated the students from bell to bell – it was a great, and humbling experience to have him in our class. Thank you, Mr. Uhl, for both your visit and your service!

Clear Lake Trap Club New Ticket Booth built by StudentsThe Clear Lake students did very well at their first state

tournament! The state tournament was held in Rome, WI, with 48 teams attending and over 500 students. Clear Lake placed 16th out of the 48 schools. Two of our students shot a perfect 25 score while at the tournament, Logan Reindahl and Nicholas Sempf-Nyren.

Noah Wieczorek, Gabe Colbeth, and Nick Elmer completed a new ticket booth for the football field. Missing from the picture is Zach Elmer. The group designed it to help promote two separate lines when purchasing tickets. Great job guys!

CLHS Band and Choir perform in New OrleansThe Band and Choir students returned from a week-long trip to New Orleans . The trip included a stop in Memphis, TN and two performances. Students visited Beale St., Sun Records, the Rock and Soul Museum, Civil Rights Museum, a plantation, the WWII Museum, Mardi Gras World, the French Quarter and French Market, Audobon Zoo, among other things. The trip also included a swamp tour, paddleboat ride, bus tour of the city, and plenty of authentic local cuisine each day. Box Tops for Education Winners

Festival Of NationsClear Lake EMT Ambulance visit

Lyle Prusak brought in the most Box Tops for Education, so he got to paint Mr. Petersen’s hair blue. Other students who participated in the contest also got an ice cream treat provided by the PTO. Thanks to April Rist for coordinating the Box Tops contests and to the PTO for all of its support to the school!

4th Grade students and staff hosted another extremely successful Festival of Nations. Students researched a country (for most, one of their own ancestry) and shared information (and food) with visitors. Students filled their passports by learning about their classmates’ nations.

Clear Lake EMTs brought the ambulance for the 5th grade to understand what an EMT’s job might be in an emergency. They explained the use of some of their equipment and a few students were able to be demonstration “victims.”

The good folks at Baseman Floors have worked on re-surfacing the Elementary Gym floor over the past few weeks. Looks better than new!

Outstanding Special Education Teacher Award received by Paula Johnson

Jr. Kindergarten Prom

E-Funds On-line payment option for Foodservice accounts

Clear Lake Elementary School teacher Paula Johnson was awarded the CESA #11 Outstanding Special Education Teacher award for the 2015-16 school year by the Wisconsin Council of Administrators of Special Education (WCASS). One such teacher is selected each year from the region. CESA #11 includes 39 school districts in northwest Wisconsin. She was nominated by Dawn Western, Special Ed. Director, and the rest of the C.L. administrative team. Excerpts from Paula’s nomination include: “Paula started the Early Childhood program in Clear Lake last year. Through her guidance, the program has flourished. Paula has become a strong advocate for her students. She truly looks at what is needed and who can provide the services. It is exciting to watch Paula’s face light up as she talks about her students and celebrates their accomplishments. Even with all of her success stories, she is continually looking for ways to make her program even better. Paula is a true educator who cares about her students and colleagues.”

The students had a blast dressing up, parading through the school, and dancing with their classmates and parents.

The Clear Lake School District is would like to remind you of the program called e-Funds for Schools. This program offers an option for parents/guardians to make payments to their Foodservice account on-line. This program may be accessed through your “Family Access” on the District web site. Parents/Guardians are able to have their lunch payments electronically withdrawn from their checking account or charged to their credit card and have the ability to do so at any time. Families set up and maintain their own logins, passwords, and payment preferences similar to other on-line banking services. The “e-Funds For Schools” electronic payment service is provided to the school by a third party service provider. The service provider has a nominal fee for their service. If you have any questions, please call the Business Office at 715-263-2114.

“Leona, Love Thy Neighbor, Too” is the sequel to our previously presented play, “Love Thy Neighbor.” Champion marigold horticulturist, neighborhood snoop, and generally nasty human being Leona Crump is back! Nine years earlier, she was tricked into selling her home as the result of an elaborate charade instigated by her friends and foes. But now, finally, her old house is on the market, and Leona is determined to move back into her home, no matter what. As things proceed Leona goes off the deep end leading everyone to wonder: Is she really the neighborhood witch or just slightly, but hilariously misunderstood?

- Refreshments served during intermission - Free Will Donation - “Leona, Love Thy Neighbor, Too” is presented through special arrangements with Eldridge Publishing Co.
