29 April 2016 Good morning. I usually make some reference to the weather in the weekly newsleer, but no doubt by the me I have finished typing this we will have experienced sun, snow, hail, thunderstorms and a variety of temperatures! I can only hope that as we head into the Bank Holiday weekend, it gets more seled so at least we'll know what to wear! This week Year 3 have aended their residenal to High Ashurst where great fun has been had by all. I know how excited all the children were before deparng each day. Their feedback has been wonderful to hear. My sincere thanks to all the adults who have again given up their free me to look aſter the children and for having the paence to make 90 bunk beds over the last few days - definitely an unenviable task. Last week in the newsleer I wrote about the issue over the SPAG papers for Year 2 assessments. By the end of Friday I had received an email from the DfE confirming that they had mistakenly published the test papers online, with an instrucon for schools not to issue the delivered test papers this year. Therefore Year 2 will not sit the SPAG test and a teacher judgement will be used. Interesngly the pupils in Year 2 had taken a keen interest in this maer as they had picked up informaon from home and were quizzing Mrs Porter on 'exactly what was the state of play with their educaon?' Having had a discussion, the children decided that a leer to the Secretary of State for Educaon, Nicky Morgan, was required. They came to share their leers with me in my office. They were excellent and made real light of my Friday aſternoon admin trudge. We've sent the leers off and will let you know if we have any feedback. Tony Dimmer, our overview partner who comes in to school to check on pupil progress and general school improvement, visited this week and was impressed with much that was going on. He focussed some of his visit on the Year 1 curriculum that we are delivering. The children were full of enthusiasm and were keen to share all their learning opportunies with him. The new school connues to move forwards at pace. Inside the building, it is a hive of acvity with a number of different trades working together. All parons are now up, the half tonne boiler was delivered whilst I was on site, temporary electrics are up and running and various pipes, cables and electrics were being installed. As you will know, offers for places in Recepon classes in September were made on the 18th and regreully a large number of families were disappointed not to be offered places at the school. Legally our Admissions Policy has to be strictly applied and as we experienced unprecedented demand from parish residents this year, siblings living outside the parish were, for the first me ever, not offered places. The governors are genuinely sympathec to the difficules that families will experience having children at different schools and we are happy to put parents in similar situaons in touch with each other if that would help people. School places are predicted to be short in the coming years and the Regional Schools’ Commissioner has approached us to ask if we would resubmit our bid for Newark CofE Primary School, a new two-form entry Free School in Woking. I will keep you updated on the progress we make towards that goal. Wishing you all a good long weekend. Kathryn Krynicki Headteacher School Newsletter

    Good morning.

I usually make some reference to the weather in the weekly newsletter, but no doubt by the time I have finished typing this we will have experienced sun, snow, hail, thunderstorms and a variety of temperatures! I can only hope that as we head into the Bank Holiday weekend, it gets more settled so at least we'll know what to wear!

This week Year 3 have attended their residential to High Ashurst where great fun has been had by all. I know how excited all the children were before departing each day. Their feedback has been wonderful to hear. My sincere thanks to all the adults who have again given up their free time to look after the children and for having the patience to make 90 bunk beds over the last few days - definitely an unenviable task.

Last week in the newsletter I wrote about the issue over the SPAG papers for Year 2 assessments. By the end of Friday I had received an email from the DfE confirming that they had mistakenly published the test papers online, with an instruction for schools not to issue the delivered test papers this year. Therefore Year 2 will not sit the SPAG test and a teacher judgement will be used. Interestingly the pupils in Year 2 had taken a keen interest in this matter as they had picked up information from home and were quizzing Mrs Porter on 'exactly what was the state of play with their education?' Having had a discussion, the children decided that a letter to the Secretary of State for Education, Nicky Morgan, was required. They came to share their letters with me in my office. They were excellent and made real light of my Friday afternoon admin trudge. We've sent the letters off and will let you know if we have any feedback.

Tony Dimmer, our overview partner who comes in to school to check on pupil progress and general school improvement, visited this week and was impressed with much that was going on. He focussed some of his visit on the Year 1 curriculum that we are delivering. The children were full of enthusiasm and were keen to share all their learning opportunities with him.

The new school continues to move forwards at pace. Inside the building, it is a hive of activity with a number of different trades working together. All partitions are now up, the half tonne boiler was delivered whilst I was on site, temporary electrics are up and running and various pipes, cables and electrics were being installed.

As you will know, offers for places in Reception classes in September were made on the 18th and regretfully a large number of families were disappointed not to be offered places at the school. Legally our Admissions Policy has to be strictly applied and as we experienced unprecedented demand from parish residents this year, siblings living outside the parish were, for the first time ever, not offered places. The governors are genuinely sympathetic to the difficulties that families will experience having children at different schools and we are happy to put parents in similar situations in touch with each other if that would help people.

    WATER BOTTLES

Please can you make sure that your child has a

    water bottle with them every

    day? Some children are

    spending time out of class

every day coming to the office

to get a plastic cup and this is

neither good for the budget or

    the environment. It doesn’t

have to be an expensive bottle -

    a small mineral water bottle

that can be re-used is ideal.

  • For each booking of parties of 10 or more, The New Haweli will donate 10% of the

total bill to the school’s fundraising pot. Just confirm when booking that you are a

parent from the school and bring a copy of the receipt in to the school office.

If you would like to make a donation to the fundraising

campaign, please complete this form and return to the

    school office: http://www.pyrford.surrey.sch.uk/

The fit out of the new building continues apace.

The first photo shows the width of the central

corridor running down the centre of the building

on both floors. The second photo is one of the

upstairs classrooms. Access should be possible to

show staff towards the end of May.

On the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, Karen from

Friends of Chernobyl Children came in to school to speak at

assembly. A number of families in the school host children each

year from Chernobyl and raise money to provide them with

unique experiences whilst they are here. After assembly,

balloons were released on the school field in memory of those

    affected by the disaster.

UPDATE The children have been running laps round the school field aiming for 5,700 miles to Rio. So far they have clocked up 1,953, way past Athens, the home of the Olympic Games and well on the way to half way there!

  • Last week we entered a team of pupils in a tag rugby tournament at Pirbright Village School.

After a shaky start which resulted in a loss in the first game, the team worked hard on playing

together and supporting each other and they were rewarded with a win in the next game. After

a couple more close games, Pyrford finished 3rd in their group and went on to narrowly lose

their final match against the 4th place team from the other group.

All members of the team played well and should be proud of the way they pulled together as a

team - Christian Challis, Eesa Hussain, Oscar Mallinson, Macey Roberts, Gemma Robins, Hiba

    Salim and Lorenzo Vanotti.

A big thank you to Miss Wilson for driving the minibus.

    Mrs Edis

A team of Year 3 boys and a team of Year 4 boys took part in a schools football

tournament on Friday and they all did very well.

    The results were:

    Year 4 Year 3

    Pyrford 0 - Goldsworth 1 Pyrford 1 - Goldsworth 0

    Pyrford 1 - St Dunstan’s 1 Pyrford 1 - St Dunstan’s 1

    Pyrford 2 - Sythwood 0 Pyrford 3 - Sythwood 2

    Pyrford 3 - Pirbright 2 Pyrford 1 - Pirbright 0

ESSA South East Division Primary Schools Relays - Saturday 23rd April

On Saturday, Pyrford girls and boys relay teams once again headed down to

the Spectrum in Guildford to compete for the school. The girls had qualified

as fastest runners-up in both the freestyle and medley competitions, with

the boys qualifying for just the medley relay. However, on arrival, a space

became available in the freestyle race, so the boys had a minimum of two

    races as well.

Well done to George Broadhead, Lucas Collyer-Todd, Oliver Mantell, Charles

Crossley (who stepped in at the last minute), Evangeline Maloney, Rosina

Hanington, Maddie Livingstone and Gemma Robins, who once again swam their hardest in what was a very tough

competition. Unfortunately, the teams did not make the finals, but did themselves proud and kept their nerve

competing as one of the top 18 teams across the south east of England. Well done all!

We are very proud to say that Oscar Malllinson passed his black-belt grading on Sunday and became

the youngest pupil ever at the school to reach this very high level at the age of 10! Oscar started

karate at the school in Year 1 and has been training 3 times a week leading up to the grading, as well

as helping in the after school class. Oscar has shown great dedication and worked so hard towards

achieving his black-belt. This really is a well-deserved and fantastic achievement at such a young age!

He plans to continue with karate and has just started kick-boxing to try a different martial art.

Nigel, the karate coach, also reports that “as well as a clean sweep at the lower belt grades in Karate

on Saturday, on Sunday the high belt grading went extremely well. Jessica, Joe and Peter all

attempted and passed the brown to second brown grading.”
