It was a very exciting and fantastic November again this year. Two of our IGCSE June 2015 Series students,

AHIS emphasizes on holistic education which encompasses leadership training and personal development.
This year, students will be given an opportunity to participate in the annual Trinity College Young Leaders

overseas YLP from 5 – 15 December 2015 will acquire new knowledge to further improve their leadership skills.
We will also organise a Motivational and Leadership Camp for all Prefects and Student Council members on
Saturday, 5 December 2015.
Meanwhile, the administration of Assessment 1 Term 1 has been successfully concluded. Students will be able
to get their reports on 12 December 2015, PTC Day.
Students and staff of AHIS have just celebrated Dewali festival by creating a very colourful and attractive ringoli.
We will re-decorate the school lobby for another festival this December, that is, Christmas celebration. As has
been the tradition of the school, students will also be showing off their talents by presenting their performances
on the last day of the term, 11 December 2015, before they go off for the Term 1 break.
The management would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone happy holidays and Merry Christmas!

DEEPAVALI CELEBRATION
YOUNG LEADER SUMMER CAMP BRIEFING
21 November 2015
As part of the school’s objective of exposing students to cultural diversity and providing opportunities for them
to learn more about other cultures, students and teachers joined their Hindu friends to celebrate Deepavali,
also known as the Festival of Lights on 5 November 2015. Staff and students joined hands to design the ‘kolam’
at the school foyer. A ‘kolam’ is a design or pattern placed at the entrance which is made from materials such
as coloured rice, dry flour and flowers. Apart from this, our students also watched a presentation of the
significance of celebrating Deepavali during the school assembly.
Our school founder, Dato’ Steve Chong Yoon On and CEO Datin Low Peck Tim lighted the ‘Kuttu Vilakku’, a
Hindu lamp to herald in the five main elements needed for a successful life — health, wealth, learning, courage
and longevity.

FIRE PREVENTION TALK
On 27 December, Mr Jay Wong from the Fire Prevention Centre of Malaysia
visited Austin Heights to deliver a talk on practical safety precautions to prevent
accidental fires. The informative talk was attended by all teachers, as well as
corporate staff, and aimed to equip the participants with vital knowledge and skills
which would enable them to act safely and effectively should they find themselves
faced with a fire. Mr. Wong’s talk included case histories of some of the worst
accidental fires in Malaysian history.
Teachers had the opportunity to purchase fire-fighting equipment such as fire
extinguishers, smoke detectors and face masks. Mrs. Gan, the Vice Principal,
later presented Mr Wong with a gift and a certificate as a token of the school’s
appreciation for his service.

SKILLS FOR SUCCESS IN CAMBRIDGE ENGLISH
Three English teachers attended an English Workshop organized by the Oxford University Press at Concorde
Hotel, Shah Alam on 27 November 2015. Mr. Roy Journeaux was the speaker and facilitator. His career in
education has been focused on teaching secondary English at leading public schools internationally and in the
UK.
The hands-on, interactive workshop exposed the participants to relevant practical activities in teaching
Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing Skills. One of the creative ways to encourage students to improve
their writing skill is by using ‘The Magic of 50 words’.
Congratulations to our Vice-Principal, Mr. Suresh Kumar for winning one of the top 5 prizes for writing an
interesting 50-word essay!
MELBOURNE STUDY TOUR BRIEFING
On 28 November 2015, students attending the Trinity College YLP (Young Leaders Programme) in Melbourne and their parents were given a special briefing by the school’s Business Development Director, Mr. Chong Khai Siang, in the Presentation Room. With the trip a week away, the participants were given many helpful hints and advice on what to pack for the study tour and what to expect from their ten days’ stay. The briefing included a question-and-answer session where parents were assured that the welfare of their children would be of top priority throughout this programme.
This being the third time that the YLP is conducted by the school, the school is confident that the students will benefit much and will return from Melbourne more matured, confident and self-reliant. We wish this cohort and the teacher accompanying them a safe journey enriched with fruitful experience at Trinity College.
