Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI) operates in field of enhancement of skills and knowledge among the engineers and technologists Continuing Professional Development Education programmes are organized to achieve this objective. These continuing professional development education programmes provide an opportunity for the professionals practicing engineering, technology and managers to update the knowledge and skills. Though engineering education gives a reasonable degree of competence and skills in technology but there are gray areas in managing technology when it comes to field operations. To fill up this gap ESCI launched a PG Diploma Programme in Management oriented to Infrastructure Development, with the approval of AICTE.
Infrastructure has been identified as one of the priority sectors for the development of the country, identified areas like Civil, Power, Transportation and Tele - Communications are booming ahead. With advancement of public and private partnership, the Government and private sector are making huge investments in developing the infrastructure projects. On both the counts, there is urgent need of techno managers to handle these infrastructure projects. Keeping these requirements in view, ESCI has designed this PGDM exclusively for the engineers. This course provides adequate confidence and competence to the engineers to handle mega projects in delivering them in time with quality.
ESCI provides the facilities like ambient classroom, environment, teaching facilities and expert competent faculty. The serene 70 acres sprawl in which the campus is located gives a condusive atmosphere for the students to prosecuting their studies.
ESCI is committed to serve the engineering community with relevant Continuing Professional Development Education programmes and professionally focused programmes like the one offered now, paving way to produce competent engineers for the country to handle the infrastructure projects. Quality of education is the hall mark for successful results in engineering achievements and ESCI strives to provide one.

The Post-Graduate Diploma in Management- Infrastructure Management (PGDM-IM) offered by the Engineering Staff College of India through the School of Post Graduate Studies at Hyderabad has been running successfully for the last three years. The course which is duly approved by AICTE takes Graduate Engineers and imparts training in the latest management aspects with a firm orientation towards the basic infrastructure management in the Power, Civil, Transportation and Telecommunication sectors.
The present batch comprises of graduate engineers from Mechanical, Electronics, Electrical, Telecom and Computer Science backgrounds. As a part of the curriculum, the fourth semester of PGDM-IM has an assignment of summer project for 8-10 weeks. The exercise is envisaged as an opportunity for every student to carry out detailed analysis of a project. The student is required to prepare a report on completion of the project.

ABOUT THE COURSE
Learning at ESCI
Infrastructure Management is concerned with assessing the need for and bringing into being, operating, and maintaining assets that are at the core of the society. It deals with the processes necessary for planning and development of the new infrastructure in a cost effective manner and in maintaining and operating mature infrastructure projects. This course is designed for engineering graduates who intend to pursue a career in infrastructure management.
This course presents a variety of tools, techniques, models and methodologies that can be used to assist in the effective use of resources and effective management of infrastructure.
The course presents an integrated approach to the management of infrastructure systems and introduces students to the fundamentals of structuring, financing and regulating infrastructure programs, particularly those operating in the core areas of Civil, Telecom, Power and Transportation Engineering.

STUDY TOUR
A study tour to foreign country is organized for the benefit of the students. Students have the opportunity to participate in an annual study tour abroad. This well-organised industrial tour exposes the students to international projects & management practices.
As a part of this tour, the current batch has visited Singapore and Malaysia in April 2010.
The students have visited the following organizations as part of their study tour of Kaula Lumpur and Singapore and interacted with the Senior Executives.

EXAMINATIONS

PROJECT WORK
There will be centralized examinations for both, semester, mid semester and end semester examinations.
Students will undergo internship for duration of 6-8 weeks, in reputed organisations and required to submit a report.
During the program, each student is expected to develop a research project to enable observe the following traits of the student:
• Regularity and ability to meet deadlines
• Sense of responsibility
• Initiative and leadership
• Diligence
• Social sense and adaptability to practical situations
Further, a student is expected to maintain a diary, which is an attempt to cultivate the habit of documentation, to develop own thought process and reasoning abilities.
Each student will choose a research topic related to infrastructure management and carry out project work during the IV Semester and submit the project report at the end of the semester.
