This weekend, the Archdiocese of Washington is taking up a second collection for The Catholic University of America, which is unique among universities in the United States - even among Catholic universities. Established by Pope Leo XIII and the U.S. bishops in 1887, it is the national university of the Catholic Church. In addition to alumni who hail from this diocese, Catholic University claims one third of the U.S. bishops and 12,000 priests and religious as alumni. To commemorate the 100 th anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady in Fatima, the rosary will be recited in front of the statue of Our Lady (between the Church and School) on Wednesday, September 13 at 5 pm, rain or shine. Let us do as Our Lady asked in the third apparition, “Recite the Rosary every day in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary to obtain peace for the world and the end of war for only she can obtain this.” It is not necessary to be familiar with how to pray the rosary. This is an opportunity to learn. Bring the family! RESPECT LIFE COMMITTEE. The Holy Cross Respect Life Committee will hold its September meeting next Saturday, September 16 at 9:30 am in the Quinn Hall Conference Room. Come out to help with planning the Harvest Fall Bingo and other activities for Respect Life month in October. New members or observers are welcome! BACK TO BASICS! (Mondays) Need a refresher course on the Who, What, When, Where, Why and How of Catholicism? Join us from 6:30-8:00 pm to view Catholicism ! This visually stunning series answers your questions on the Church, Mary, the Mass, etc. Each session will include a casual discussion of what we just saw. No advance readings or pressure to attend every session. Venue: TBD BIBLE STUDY (Tuesdays) Monsignor Macfarlane will be leading a Bible Study from 7:00-8:30 pm in the School Library on October 17 & 31, November 14, 21 & 28 and December 5. The group will determine the direction together during the first session! RCIA (Wednesdays) Do you know anyone who would like to explore the Catholic Faith or complete their sacraments? The Rite of Christian Initiation is the group for them! We meet to unpack the mysteries of our faith and share in the journey of conversion in Christ. First meeting is on October 4, 7:00-8:30 pm. Venue: TBD REFLECTING ON THE SUNDAY GOSPEL (Thursday) Join Fr. Mathias in reflecting on the upcoming Sunday Gospel! Prepare for Sunday Mass by digging deeper into the scriptures and God’s message for you. Meetings are from 9:30-10:30 am in Quinn Hall. THAT MAN IS YOU! (Saturday) This men’s group will begin its 5th year on Saturday, September 16, in Lewis Hall. Each session will begin at 6:45 am and end by 8:15 am. All men are welcome and no previous attendance is necessary. TMIY! takes a man where he is and helps him go further. With this year's theme, "The Unveiling of Love," the group will study and discuss the Church's vision of love and marriage and how we can grow in our spiritual life. DVD GROUP (Sunday) The DVD Group meets on Sundays after the 9:30am Mass. The next series will be Mary: A Biblical Walk with the Blessed Mother. This series will take you through a virtual pilgrimage among holy sites in the world while pondering the heart of Mary. Watch for an announcement of the start date in the bulletin.

NEWLY BAPTIZED AT HOLY CROSS! Congratulations to Grace Hayes, Claire Hayes and their family on their recent baptism. The Holy Cross Respect Life Committee placed a rose on Mary's altar to signify their baptisms and welcome them into the Church.

Our choirs are back to singing praises! Children's Choir (7 to 13 years old) sings at the 9 am Mass on Sundays and rehearse on Thursdays, 4:30-5:30 pm in the church. Contemporary Music Group sings at the 10:30 am Mass and rehearse on Thursdays, 6-7 pm, in the church. Isaac Schiller is the leader and pianist for the Group. If interested in singing with this group, please email Isaac at [email protected]. Adult Choir sings at the Noon Mass and rehearse on Thursdays, 7:15-8:45 pm, starting September 7 in the church. ROCK CREEK COUNCIL OF THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS. You are invited to join the Knights for an End of Summer Movie night on Friday, September 15, at 5417 West Cedar Lane in Bethesda. The movie is Disney's Moana, which is rated PG and stars Auli’I Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson, and Rachel House. Festivities start at 6 pm and the movie will be shown at sunset. Run time is 107 minutes. The cost is $5 person or $15 per family which covers hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, juice boxes, and water bottles. Please bring a side or dessert to share. Bring blankets, beach chairs, games, balls, etc. Note that there is no indoor seating and the movie will be shown only if the weather is nice.
