Dear Parents and Carers,
Pre Kindy Program
I am very pleased to be able to advise our school
community that we have been successful in our efforts to
commence a Pre Kindy program (3-year-old program) at
Bindoon Primary School. A great deal of work has been
going on over several months to work through the
logistics of having such a program in operation at the
school and we can now offer this extremely valuable
service to our community.
The Pre Kindy program is being coordinated by an
external provider, Kidz First who are the same provider
of before and afterschool that already exists at the
school. There are many families who will enjoy the
opportunity to have their 3-year-old attending our school
site on Tuesdays and Thursdays commencing from next
week. The program will be run out of the classroom next
door to the current Kindy/Pre-Primary class. Further
enquiries should be directed through the great team at
Kidz First 0439034916 [email protected] .
School of Thought
I was fortunate to spend the afternoon with our talented
Student Councillors at Edith Cowan University in
Joondalup last Wednesday afternoon as they hosted
their very own live to air radio broadcast. Our student
leaders were certainly nervous as they arrived at the
studios at 89.7FM but the nerves soon gave way to a
high-quality show which was the result of plenty of hard
work and preparation. I would like to sincerely thank this
group of awesome students for their hard work and for
conquering the challenge that was given to them, their
teachers who supported them, Doug McGhee who was
the driver, Mrs Kay who ‘’willingly volunteered’’ to be
interviewed and the CEO of the Shire of Chittering,
Matthew Gilfellon who also appeared as special guest
on the show. Our students certainly did themselves
proud, and were great ambassadors for their families,
school and community. You can listen to the show by

Student Councillors 2021
I spent Tuesday morning with our Year 5 and 6 students
outlining the process that will determine the Student
Councillors for 2021 and beyond. As the students know,
I am very passionate about our students achieving to
their full potential, positive school culture and the role of
student leaders in the school. I would like to see the
leadership roles of our Student Councillors continue to
evolve next year and as such I would like to ensure that
our selection process attracts students with strong
leadership skills and potential. In 2021, the Student
Council will consist of 6 students from Year 6, there will
be two School Captains included in these 6 students and
the roles are not requiring gender balance.
In the first stage of selection, interested students will
require a peer nomination and the endorsement of their
current classroom teacher. Secondly students will be
required to present a short speech to the Year 4-6
students that outlines their suitability for the role. The
third step is the student election- again involving
students in Year 4-6.
Staff will also cast their vote and then all votes are
carefully considered by the Administration Team who will
have the final say as to who will be appointed into the
Student Council. Student Councillors will automatically
inherit the responsibilities of Faction Captains although
additional students will also be appointed to these roles
during swimming and athletics season.
This is a process that I have implemented in numerous
schools over many years and ensures that we select
quality future leaders that are also respected by their
peers. The 2021 Student Councillors will be announced
at the final class assembly on the 27th November 2020.
New Factions
Thank you to the students, family members and staff that
chose to share their suggestions for the naming of the
new factions which will commence next year.
I have made a short list of the final names to consider
based on the criteria that was communicated last term.
Essentially the selected names are unique to Bindoon
and/or the local area. Some suggestions have been
omitted as they are not specific to Bindoon.
A separate voting sheet will be distributed to families so
that everyone can have their chance to name the
factions with the final announcement being announced in
the next newsletter. The form will be going home on
Friday.
Book Week
A reminder that next Thursday is our Book week dress
up where we invite our students (and staff) to dress as
their favourite book character or within this year’s theme
of “Curious Creatures, Wild Minds”.
Lapathon
Unfortunately, Mrs Toms and I were unable to attend the
Lapathon that was held this afternoon. We were both
attending another school with other Deputy Principals
and Principals who are assisting as panel members to
select teaching staff for Bindoon commencing in 2021.
As we are working with staff from other schools it has
been extremely difficult to select a suitable time across a
number of schools when we can all meet. I would like to
sincerely thank the hard working and dedicated P&C
who have been very proactive in organizing another
fantastic fundraising event.
Have a fantastic fortnight!

We are celebrating Book Week next week, with the theme Curious Creatures, Wild Minds. Colouring in competitions were sent home last week and are due back by Monday next week. Age groups for this competition are K/PP; Year 1 & 2; Year 3 & 4 and Year 5 & 6. Classrooms will start decorating their door with weird and wonderful creatures from Monday. Don’t forget to come to school dressed as something from the Book Week theme or as your favourite book character on Thursday 29th October. I'm looking forward to seeing all the wonderful costumes.
Scholastic book club brochures were sent home last week and are due back Monday. As we are getting towards the end of the year if you would like to order from the catalogue for Christmas presents please let myself or the office know. Once the books are in I will phone you to arrange collection so they don't go home with the students.
