10 Natural Phenomenon of Light

This presentation is presented to you by –

1. To start with the list, we present to you, one of the most famous natural phenomenon of light i.e., Auroras. These spectacular natural ‘display of light’ define the beauty of our Mother Earth.

2. Next up, are the Sundogs (scientific name: parhelion). These atmospheric phenomenon that creates bright spots of light in the sky, often on a luminous ring or Halo(s) on either side of the Sun.

3. These may appear to be fictitious, but they aren’t. They’re the Light Pillars, they’re formed by the reflection of sunlight or moonlight by ice crystals that are present in the Earth's atmosphere.

4. A specific natural phenomenon, which a person may encounter, on a daily basis, a Mirage in which light rays are bent to produce a displaced image of distant objects or the sky.

5. This phenomenon is one, which a swimmer would encounter frequently. This is the Total Internal Reflection of light. This is a pretty complex phenomenon. These usually occur in Acrylic Bars and underwater (if water is clear).

6. A Circumzenithal Arc, similar in appearance to a rainbow; but it arises from refraction of sunlight through horizontally-oriented ice crystals, generally in cirrus clouds, rather than from raindrops.

7. Rayleigh scattering, of sunlight in the atmosphere causes diffuse sky radiation, which is the reason for the blue color of the sky and the yellow tone of the sun itself.

8. From “Gold Pot stories” to the “ROYGBIV” and “VIBGYOR”. This is perhaps the phenomenon about which all of us would know. Rainbows . Famous for the beautiful view they show us.

9. Airglow (also called nightglow) is the very weak emission of light by a planetary atmosphere. In the case of Earth's atmosphere, this optical phenomenon causes the night sky never to be completely dark, even after the effects of starlight and diffused sunlight from the far side are removed.

10. When the sun is positioned at precisely the correct angle behind clouds water droplets in them diffract light away, creating an intense streaking effect called Cloud iridescence.

More INTERESTING facts related to LIGHT.

There is nothing like Pink light. www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9dqJRyk0YM

299,792,458 m/s , The actual and precise speed of light in air and vacuum.

Incidentally, the slowest light has ever been recorded travelling was 17 meters per second, through a rubidium, cooled to almost absolute zero, when it forms a strange state of matter called a Bose-Einstein condensate.

In glasses, light slows down a bit, bending its trajectory and allowing the making of lenses.
