STORY Bangle Jangle

Once upon a jangly time there was a man called Bangle Jangle. He made

the most beautiful jewellery that spangled and sparkled. You could always

tell if someone was wearing one of Bangle’s pieces of jewellery because all

Bangle’s necklaces went Jangle Jangle Jangle and all his bracelets went

Jangle Jangle Jangle and all his earrings went Jangle Jangle Jangle.

One day Bangle was walking through a town called Banbury. As usual he

was covered from head to toe with all his jewellery, including his spangly

bangle that went Jangle Jangle Jangle. All of a sudden Bangle heard an-

other sound. ‘Boo hoo! Boo hoo!’

dressed in silk and standing next to here was... [SOUND OF A HORSE]

...afinewhitehorse.

‘Whatever is the matter?’ Bangle asked.

‘Lots of people are coming to see me at Banbury Cross today,’ she replied,

‘but I’ve lost all my jewellery and I don’t know what to do!’ and she cried

even harder!

‘Don’t worry,’ said Bangle Jangle. ‘I make the most marvellous musical

jewellery in all of Banbury. Look!’ and he shook himself from his head to his

toes so that all his jewellery went Jangle Jangle Jangle.

she asked. ‘The king is coming to visit and I’m sure if he sees it he will

want some for himself! But I need it by this afternoon.’

‘No problem. Come to my house at lunch time and it will all be ready,’ Ban-

gle said. Then Bangle Jangle hurried off and everybody in Banbury heard

him because his jewellery went Jangle Jangle Jangle all the way home.

But then Bangle had a horrible thought. He had forgotten to ask the lady

what kind of jewellery she wanted. Oh no!

‘Brilliant!’ said Bangle, ‘let’s see...’

‘Oh you saggy cabbage,’ she said again. ‘She needs more than just rings!

Say the rhyme again.’

So Bangle did. ‘Ride a cock horse to Banbury cross

I’ve got to make some bells too! And she’ll be here at any moment!’

So he worked even harder, tap, tap, tapping with his hammer until...he’d

made a silver bell for every toe, and when he shook all ten of them they

went Jangle Jangle Jangle. At that very moment Bangle heard... [SOUND

thrilled with the lovely jewellery.

‘It’s even better than the rings and the bells that I lost! Thank you so much!’

And that afternoon everyone saw and heard Bangle Jangle’s musical jew-

ellery, especially the king, who wanted some for himself! And so the rhyme
