Shocking Styles in Year 4Over the last few weeks, Year 4 have been learning about ‘Shocking Styles’ in fashion. We have looked at modern and historic trends. This week, the children have all become fashion designers and have created some amazing clothes and accessories using recycled materials.

This afternoon, we hit the runway (home time lines!) and showcased our fantastic designs. Have a look at our works in progress.

Virtual Walk Online Roadshow for Parents, Carers and Professionals - FREE EVENTThis workshop will look at the online world and how our young people are using it. It will explore how they are navigating around restrictions and using the internet without parents’ knowledge. There are two available dates for this event: 9th December 2020 at 18:30 till 20:30 OR  25th February 2021 at 18:30 till 20:30To book and for more information, please visit: https://www.thurrocklscp.org.uk/lscp/training-event-information/walk-online-roadshow-for-parents-carers-and-professionals-free-event

Be aware of who your children are talking to onlinePlease ensure that your children are properly supervised when on the internet. Not everyone using the internet has good intentions and children do not always understand this. Great parental advice can be found at:

The Big Question Giving children a chance to think independently and then discuss their opinion is a really important life

skill. Please take the opportunity to discuss the question below with your child. Share the question with them, give them 2 minutes thinking time and then ask them what they think. The idea is that there is no right or wrong answer, but it is an opportunity for them to explore their own ideas and develop their speaking and listening skills. The question for this week is:

""Does a frog know that it is a frog?”

Volunteers                             We are always looking for volunteers to help us offer even more support for our pupils.  If you have an hour a week or

more, please call the office or email and leave a message for Mrs Burdett. We’d love to hear from you!

Sharing Assemblies We have mapped in Sharing Assemblies to take place in the new year as we were hopeful that things might improve and we are keen to give working parents as much notice as possible to book time off. Due to the current circumstances, sharing assemblies may not be able to take place after Christmas. However, if this is the case we will inform you of this with as much notice as is possible.

Water Bottles Please send in a bottle containing water rather than juice. As the water fountains aren’t in use, the only thing to drink is provided by parents/carers.  If your child sips on

squash or juice all day, they constantly have sugar in their mouths and this is not good for teeth.  “No added” sugar contains naturally occurring sugar – it is not sugar-free.  A juice drink for lunch time as part of a home packed lunch is fine as this is drunk in one go – not sipped all day long. Whilst we cannot insist on water, we really are asking for your help with this please.  Absolutely NO fizzy drinks allowed in school.

Parental Queries and Concerns We are asking that you do not come into the main

reception unless absolutely necessary in order to keep families and staff safe. If you have any queries or concerns, please email the admin email address ([email protected]) or call us on 01375

373866 in the first instance. This will then be followed up by a senior member of staff who will help to resolve the issue. Teachers will not respond directly to any emails from parents.

Well done! All the Nursery staff would like to say a big ‘Well done!’ to all the Nursery children who have settled so well in Nursery. It has been a very busy half term and we have welcomed lots of new Nursery children and families. We have worked hard to get used to our routines and help each other remember what to do. Thank you as well to all the parents who have been so supportive of our settling back in procedures and our on entry/collection routines. We really appreciate your patience and understanding. You should feel really proud of your child as they have adapted very well and some are even able to walk in to the cloakroom on their own. Really impressive!

Nursery Mobo AwardsThank you to everyone who joined in and told us who their favourite artist is for Nursery Black History Month. We had a three-way tie for the winner……..Michael Jackson/Craig David/ Whitney Houston. We played the winning artists’ music during the week, as well as the staff choice (a tie between Beyoncé, JLS, Nat King Cole and Ella Fitzgerald) and a ‘mash up’ on Friday. It was nice to see some brave parents dancing whilst waiting to come in to Nursery!

This WeekWe have been exploring some Halloween activities this week. We have been using pipettes and coloured water to make our own magic spells! Abracadabra! We’ve been mixing paint together to make orange and then paint our own pumpkins. We’ve hammered golf tees into pumpkins and pretended to make pumpkin and cabbage soup! Delicious! The children have been telling us about dressing up for Halloween. It
