Glucose is a ubiquitous fuel in biology. It is used as an energy source in most organisms, from bacteria to humans. Use of glucose may be by either aerobic respiration, anaerobic respiration, or fermentation.

Sugars such as sucrose are known to contribute to tooth decay, and it is impossible to develop cavities in the absence of fermentable carbohydrates.[citation needed] The role of starches is disputed. Lower rates of tooth decay have been seen in hereditary fructose intolerance

Casein has a wide variety of uses, from being a major component of cheese, to use as a food additive, to a binder for safety matches.[2] As a food source, casein supplies essential amino acids as well as some carbohydrates and the inorganic elements calcium and phosphorus.

Sodium bicarbonate is primarily used in cooking (baking) where it reacts with other components to release carbon dioxide, which helps dough rise. The acidic compounds that induce this reaction include phosphates, cream of tartar, lemon juice, yogurt, buttermilk, cocoa, vinegar, etc.

Additional data analysis revealed that patients receiving sodium bicarbonate achieved urine pH's of 6.5 as opposed to5.6 with those receiving sodium chloride. This alkalinization is theorized to have a protective effect against the formationof free-radicals that may cause nephropathy.

Titanium dioxide in solution or suspension can be used to cleave protein that contains the amino acid pro-line at the site where pro-line is present. This breakthrough in cost-effective protein splitting took place at Arizona State University in 2006.

This chemical ingredient is used in almost all suncreams made for children! (as well as many products for adults too) - It makes the cream bright and white (you've seen that stuff that skiersplaster on their nose and cheeks? Yes...this ingredient makes the cream white!)...and whilst it helps reduce exposure to possibly harmful rays (you may know there is a debate about this going on, too!)

Sodium citrate is chiefly used as a food additive E331, usually for flavor or as a preservative. Sodium citrate is employed as a flavoring agent in certain varieties of club soda. Sodium citrate is common as an ingredient in lemon-lime and citrus soft drinks, such as Ting, Chinotto, and some Ocean Spray juices, contributing to their tart tastes, and can also be found in such energy drinks as Rock star and Red Bull.

The acceptable risk for a serious event

in haemodialysis is of the order of 1 serious event for

1–100 million treatments [2]. Compared with this, the

18 423-day experience reported by Winnett falls far short
