Engineering, was required to students involved in the Master. Students were supported with a biannual research fellowship delivered by the MIUR. During the first year students were committed to follow courses. During the second year students had to spend from 6 to 8 months in a company (or a research centre) and develop a research thesis project. The candidate (prof. Anna Esposito) was involved as scientific coordinator of the Masters for the definition of the Master proposal application for funding , courses’ organization, the definition of connections with companies and research centres for the students’ stage, and was responsible of the students’ research projects. Some of the research projects were published as research work in International Journals and Conferences. She was also responsible of the Master courses

Each biannual Master was funded, through a yearly application, by the Italian Government, M.U.R.S.T. D.M. n. 308 of Jul 3 1995 and the European Community for 5 consecutive years (first, second, third, fourth, and fifth cycles). It required any year a Master proposal application. The International Institute for Advanced Scientific Studies (IIASS) was the recipient of the funds and the Master venue. A Master degree (Laurea Vecchio Ordinamento) in Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, and Engineering, was required to students involved in each Master cycle. 1989 to date: Neural Networks: learning algorithms, models and applications The interdisciplinary research background provided a novel perspective in the field of Human Computer Interaction with applications in Ambient Assistive Technology and suggested models for the algorithmic implementation of friendly and emotionally interactive dialog systems and socially believable ICT multimodal interfaces. Particular efforts are devoted to: 1. Define qualitative and quantitative behavioural (verbal, nonverbal, and emotional) features for communicative exchanges 2.
