Safety PrecautionsNEVER use the centrifuge in any manner not specifiedin these instructions.

NEVER operate the centrifuge without a rotor properlyattached to the shaft.

NEVER fill tubes while they are in the rotor. Spilledliquid may harm the unit.

NEVER put hands in the rotor area unless the rotor is

completely stopped.NEVER move the centrifuge while the rotor is spinning.

NEVER use solvents or flammables near this or otherelectrical equipment.

NEVER centrifuge flammable, explosive or corrosivematerials.

NEVER centrifuge hazardous materials outside of ahood or proper containment facility.

ALWAYS load the rotor symmetrically. Each tubeshould be counterbalanced by another tube. Weight ofindividual tubes may not exceed of 3.0 g.

ALWAYS locate the centrifuge within easy access to anelectrical outlet.

ALWAYS use only centrifuge tubes made from plasticand designed to withstand centrifugal forces of atleast 2000 g.

General InformationThe Scie-Plas Mini Centrifuge is supplied with threerotors — one for 1.5 ml centrifuge tubes, one for0.2 ml PCR tube strips and one for a 1" × 3" slide.The 6 place, 1.5 ml rotor is designed to centrifugeup to six, 1.5 ml individual plastic centrifuge tubes.It will also accept 0.5 ml or 0.4 ml tubes using theadapters supplied with the unit. The tube strip rotoris designed to centrifuge two 8 × 0.2 ml tube strips.It will also accept up to 16 individual 0.2 ml tubes.

The slide rotor is for a 1" × 3" slide. All rotors aredesigned for applications requiring relatively lowg-forces, such as microfiltration, cell separation andquick spin downs from the walls of tubes. Please readthis manual thoroughly before attempting to operatethe centrifuge.

Exchanging Rotors

The centrifuge is supplied with two interchangeablerotors. The rotors are easily exchanged using the Allenwrench provided. Locate the setscrew on the rotorshaft below the rotor head. Using the wrench, loosenthe setscrew and pull up on the rotor to remove. Placethe other rotor into position on the motor shaft. Takecare not to press the rotor down so far as to compressthe rubber collar at the base of the shaft. Tighten thescrew using the Allen wrench until it is just tight. Donot over tighten as this will cause damage to the rotorand the motor shaft.

OperationBefore operating the centrifuge, be sure that thepower switch is in the “on” position. To begin arun, simply close the lid of the centrifuge. No othercontrols are required. To stop rotation, press thelid release button on the front of the unit. This willrelease the lid lock and the rotor will slow gradually toa complete stop. After the rotor has stopped, the lidmay be opened by grabbing it with the thumb on thefront and fingers on the back then lifting the lid back

on the hinge. Safe operation of the centrifuge requiresthat the rotor be loaded in a balanced fashion.Failure to load the rotor properly presents a hazardouscondition and may damage the centrifuge. Individualtubes, strip tubes and/or adapters must always beloaded symmetrically to ensure proper balance. Neverrun the centrifuge with only one strip tube in place.

Caution: Do not attemptto open the lid or removesamples until the unit hascome to a complete stop.

Care and Maintenance

Cleaning

To clean the centrifuge, use a damp cloth and a mild,non-corrosive detergent (ph <8). After cleaning, ensureall parts are dried thoroughly before attempting tooperate the unit. Do not immerse the centrifuge inliquid or pour liquids over it.

DisposalThis equipment is marked with the crossed outwheeled bin symbol to indicate that it must not bedisposed of with unsorted waste.

Instead it is your responsibility to dispose of yourequipment correctly at lifecycle-end by handing it overto an authorized facility for separate collection andrecycling.

It is also your responsibility to decontaminate the

equipment in case of biological, chemical and/ or radiological contamination, so that the personsinvolved in the disposal and recycling of theequipment are protected from any potential hazard.

For more information about where you can drop offyour waste equipment, please contact your localdealer from whom the equipment was purchasedoriginally.

By doing so, you will help to conserve natural andenvironmental resources and you will ensure thatyour equipment is recycled in a manner that protectshuman health.

WarrantyThe centrifuge and rotors are covered by a one-yearwarranty. This warranty is void in the event ofincorrect operation, use of nonstandard spare partsor accessories and unauthorized modification of therotor or centrifuge. The rotor warranty does not covernormal wear and tear or damage and/or weakeningcaused by radioactive contamination, cleaning agents,or over tightening of the screw.
