Various trips to Scottish grounds from late July 2010 to early July 2011.



Airdrie United. New Broomfield, Airdrie. Bit of a soulless standard box outside town. Airdrie and Albion Rovers form a

mini Old Firm. I was once told that "you'll never get a conviction in Airdrie Sheriff's Court." (13 March)





Albion Rovers. Cliftonhill, Coatbridge. An ace ground, it looked as if it were being held together by the fresh coat of paint

that had been appl ied. (13 March)





Arbroath. Gayfield Park, Arbroath. Very, very close to the North Sea, and with a bitter wind blowing the air was perishing.

A large green next to the ground which was apparently the previous ground. (20 February)





Ayr United. Somerton Park, Ayr. Arriving at the ground I needed a snorkel to explore. By the time I had finished the sun

was blazing. (28 May)









Berwick Rangers. Shielfield Park, Berwick-upon-Tweed. To my surprise there was a speedway track around the pitch.

Bo'ness United. Newtown Park, Bo'ness. (29 June)





Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic. New Dundas Park, Bonnyrigg. (18 June)





Brechin City. Glebe Park, Brechin. The garages outside are rented by the club to locals. They turned down investment

from an oil magnate as they worried it would affect their community programmes. (4 July)





Brora Rangers. Dudgeon Park, Brora. Saw the ground on the trip to Orkney but could not get a photo. Second time, no

doubt. (11 June)





Burntisland Shipyard Amateur. Recreation Park, Burntisland. Amazing to say that this ground hosts Scottish Cup action.

Basically a standless pitch surrounded by housing. (4 July)





Clachnacuddin. Grant Street Park, Inverness. The third team in the city. The groundsman told me that they are starved

of funding from the Council - and had just been told to demolish their ancient stand. (11 June)





Cove Rangers. Allan Park, Aberdeen. Right next to the sea. (8 July)





Cowdenbeath. Central Park, Cowdenbeath. With a stock car track around it. Well named, about a 2 minute walk from the town centre and near a leisure complex. Someone had kindly put a giant tyre behind one wall with a TV stand on top

of it, so I could photograph the inside... (27 March)





Craigroyston. St Mark's Park, Warriston, Edinburgh. And very much a park. The club buildings are hidden away amongst

trees and you need to cross a public footpath to get from the dressing rooms to the fenced pitch. (29 June)





Dumbarton. The Dumbarton Stadium, Dumbarton. Although it is nicknamed The Rock by fans. As it's right against

Dumbarton Rock. (26 March)





Dundee and Dundee United. Dens Park and Tannadice Park, Dundee. Both on Tannadice Road. (20 February)









East Fife. Bayview Stadium, Methil. One terrific little stand, which sticks out of the depressed dockland around like a sore

thumb, but nothing else. (27 March)





East Stirlingshire. Firs Park, Falkirk. Their former ground. Had to hurry here, it was in an extremely rough part of town.Had to watch out for flying bottles and pitbulls. No wonder they want to move to Grangemouth. Unfortunately I could find

no other way in, hemmed in by housing and a shopping complex. (27 June)





Edinburgh City. Meadowbank Stadium, Edinburgh. (1 July)





Falkirk. Falkirk Stadium, Falkirk. Out-of-town development. (27 June)





Forfar Athletic. Station Park, Forfar. The most misleadingly named ground in Britain; there isn't a station for 12 miles.

Nowhere near the centre of town either. On one side an industrial estate, the other farmland. (20 February)





Formartine United. North Lodge Park, Pitmedden. Seemingly nowhere near any human habitation; nobody local knew

where it was. However it is close to a couple of main roads. (8 July)





Fort William. Claggan Park, Fort William. In the foothills of Ben Nevis. (2 July)





Girvan. Hamilton Park, Girvan. Happened to be playing Renfrew when I turned up to take pics; I saw the only goal of thegame, scored by Renfrew's no. 11, following up his own parried shot. Only attack Renfrew had. (28 May)





Golspie Sutherland. King George V Park, Golspie. (11 June)





Hill Of Beath Hawthorn. Keir's Park, Hill Of Beath. The next door town to Cowdenbeath and they sometimes get biggercrowds, such is the strength of junior football. They even have their own floodlights. (27 March)









Irvine Meadow XI. Meadow Park, Irvine. Very close to the centre of Irvine. A huge amount of local pride in the ground,

while I was there the groundsman, chairman (loading booze into the club bar) and club secretary were all there, doing

this and that. Even though the season had been over a month. (28 May)





Irvine Victoria. Victoria Park, Irvine. Across the river from the main town and so much in their local rivals' shadow that the

Medda consider Kilwinning Rangers their local derby. A very drunk man from what looked like a hostel next to the ground

asked me to take his photo. It was 10am.





Kelty Hearts. Central Park, Kelty. One heck of a backdrop. The youth team was playing a match on a pitch just outside the complex. (27 March)





Linlithgow Rose. Prestonfield, Linlithgow. A powerhouse in the junior game, and don't they know it. (29 June)





Musselburgh Athletic. Olivebank Stadium, Musselburgh. (1 July)





Newtongrange Star. New Victoria Park, Newtongrange. Extremely modern, with disabled ramps and a large amount ofparking. (18 June)





Peebles Rovers. Whetstone Park, Peebles. The ground pretty much IS the park. Just a stand dumped on some grass.They were clearing up from some sort of charity event when I turned up to photograph. (26 June)





Preston Athletic. Pennypit Park, Prestonpans. (1 July)





Queen's Park. Hampden Park, Glasgow. Went to the museum and a match was taking place, so I stayed to watch. A

late, deflected goal gave the home side a 1-0 win over Berwick. Great community spirit amongst the 400 or so, all

committed to helping the youth of Glasgow rather than success pure. (22 January)









Rothie Rovers. The Rothie Inn, Rothienorman. I had no idea about this club, I stumbled upon their ground on returning

back from Aberdeen. They play in the Aberdeenshire AFA Division 1 East. Despite all the red around the ground they

wear black and white stripes. (8 July)





The Spartans. Ainslie Park, Edinburgh. A league club in all but name, with an academy and several junior pitches.(29June)





St Johnstone. McDiarmid Park, Perth. (8 July)





Stenhousemuir. Ochilview Park, Stenhousemuir. The place was a hive of activity even though I was there coming up to

8pm. Lot of community training. Asked if I could take pics, they said I had to ask Mac. Mac said "aye". Good people. (27

June)





Stirling Albion. Forthbank, Stirling. Another faceless out-of-towner. Not even in Albion's colours. (29 May)





Stranraer. Stair Park, Stranraer. Actually in a large public park. (28 May)





Strathspey Thistle. Seafield Park, Grantown-on-Spey. Just as I finished up photographing here there was the mostincredible rainstorm. (8 July)





Turriff United. The Haughs, Turriff. Very proud of their ground, the chairman happened to be present and took mearound some of the refurb work. Matchday admission to the stand is £1. (8 July)





Whitehill Welfare. Ferguson Park, Rosehill. The village is tiny, it's amazing that somewhere like here was able to enter into

the Scottish Cup for years when much larger and better-appointed teams like Irvine Meadow were not. Only onceknocked out a League team, Albion Rovers in 1987. (26 June)





Wigtown & Bladnoch. Trammondford Park, between Wigtown and Bladnoch. A definitely well-named team, the groundis neatly between Scotland's booktown and the southernmost Scottish distillery. (29 January)
