Overview

• The School of Fashion Studies at George Brown College will collaborate with Scouts Canada in revamping the formal uniform.

• Scouts Canada members will be surveyed on their perceptions of the current uniform in terms of appearance, fit, comfort, and other aspects.

• Participants will provide feedback on changes that would make the uniform more acceptable, well-fitting, comfortable and exciting to wear.

Page 3: Scouts Style

Purpose

• We will be revamping the current Scouts uniform and its related accessories to address various concerns, while maintaining the core values of Scouts Canada.

• The project team will be comprised of experienced faculty and students from both the fashion management program and fashion techniques and design program.

Page 4: Scouts Style

Data Collection

• Data will be collected using an online survey, in-person surveys, and focus group interviews.

• Our sample will consist of the Scouts Canada members at various levels (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, etc) as well as parents and Scout Leaders.

• Data collected will be analyzed and recommendations will be made to the design, who will explore the competitive design options compared to the current processes in place.

• The recommendations will be applied through developing samples of new uniforms and a final report will be developed and submitted for implementation by Scouts Canada.

Findings• From the question results for “Fit”, it can be assumed that majority of the Scouts find the

unifrom well fitting. However, the next choice that has the most results is “Mostly Poorly Fitting”. Also, a large amount find it “Well Fitting”.

• From what I remember from talking to the members at the retreat, a lot of them were complaining about length of the uniform. Mainly women expressed that the length for the women’s shirt was not long enough, and during activities the shirt itself came out of the pants/jeans. A few of them mentioned that they would purchase men’s Scout shirts instead, since they had more length to them.

• The results show that mostly all of them find the uniform has allowable movement to most extents. Also, it can be observed that hardly any of the members find the uniform restrictive since the majority of them have answered “Allows movement”, and “Mostly Allows Movement”.

• Caring for the uniforms seems pretty straight forward. With 77% of the responses finding it easy to clean, we can assume that the fabric after washing is as durable in functionality and appearance as it was before washing was needed.
