My name is Ti any. I am a married, mother of two young boys from Ohio, U.S.A.I am a part- me preschool teacher, a full- me student studying inclusive early childhood educa on, and I stay at home with my boys part- me as well.How many me do you spend in designing and/or extrac ng elements? I

design mostly in the evenings, between classes, and when the boys are nappingso I probably spend 10 to 15 hours a week working on digital scrapbooking.

Where do you nd inspira on for doodles? Some doodles are requests fromcustomers, some are inspired by events, and others are inspired by things I see. Ilike to go out places and looking around to see what inspires me. I carry a sketchbook and note pad with me so that I can quickly write or sketch ideas.What program (or programs) do you use? I use Adobe Photoshop CS4, Adobe

Photoshop Tip 1The rst p will be a tutorial about how to recolor a item which uses more than onecolor. Its quite easy.

1- The element you see here is the element we will use for this tutorial. The

rst step is open your element.

2.- Now, we have to create one layer for each color. Well create 3: one for the ribbon, anotherfor the pin and the last one for the wire. Choose the Lasso or the Magic Selec on tool to se-lect one of the parts. In this tutorial, well start with the wire.

3.- Now, right click on the selec on and select Layer via copy. (The screen shoots show theSpanish version of Photoshop).

4.- Do the same with all the layers you want, but remember you can leave one part of theelement without copying, because the other layers will cover it. Youll understand this with aimage. See that Ive only copying the wire and the pin, because I have the ribbon in the rstlayer.

5.- Now, create a layer between the rst layer and the second.

6.- Choose a color and use the Paint Bucket to ll this layer. Now, right click on this layer andselect Clipping Mask

7.- Now, youll se something like this: 8.- Now change the blend mode to Color.

9.- Now, youll see the ribbon with the color you chosen!

10.- Do the same with all the layers, using the colors you want. Hey!? Whats happening? Icant change it to white? I choose white, but it appears grey!

11.- It appears grey because the item is quite dark. We are going to solve it. First, select theitem youre recoloring, not the color.

12.- Now go to Image > Adjustment > Brightness and Contrast . Click.

13.- Youll se a window with two adjustments: one is Brightness and the other is Contrast.

Move the controls to the right (to add more brightness and contrast). Stop when you got theresult you want.

14.- Ill do the same with the wire, because it was quite light. Do not move the controls to thele , because the element will loose quality. If you want a element darker, just move only theContrast amount.

15.- Save your le as a *png. You can also save a *psd le if you will use this element again, soyou dont have to select the parts and such things again.

Prac se a li le bit this p and youll see how easy it is! You can use di-erent colors, brightness, contrast... Just play!

Confusing wordsI have found some designers that doesnt know the di erences between PU, S4H and S4O.Also, I tried to Google it, but there are no explana ons of that. Maybe in any forum, page orblog there is one, but I havent found it. For that, Ill try to explain what is the di erent.

PU: Personal UseThis mean that you can use the kit or the product to make layouts of yourself and rela veswith the kit.

S4O: Scrap For OthersThis mean that you can make layout for other people, but you cant charge any amount forthis service and the result have to be a a ered le (neither layers, nor separate elements).The layout must be ready to print, not just a quick page or brag book.

S4H: Scrap For HireThe same as S4O, but you can charge money for the layout. Also, the result must be a at-tered image, neither quick pages nor brag books.

Remember to read the designer TOU before play with her kit and dont forget to give theproper credit to the designer if required. If you have any ques on, feel free to contact thedesigner: I promise she (or he) would be grateful and youll receive a reply soon.

Paint Shop Pro Tip 1Do you like to create alphabets coordinated with your kits or do you make CU alphabets butyou nd it so long to make each le er one a er another? ... This is because you have not dis-covered the func on of PSP Script... So heres how to avoid many steps...

First, you save the le Alpha X with all separate le ers png. Uppercase, lowercase, punctua-on... What you want to work with... This le may be used later.

Open your rst le er and try what you want ll the nal result... When youre le er is good,we can begin.1.- Open a new le er. Click File > Script > Start Recording ... (Screen shoots are in French PSP).

2.- Then make your le er. Use the copy/paste lter or what you want but think itll be thesame for each le er... When you nish you le er click File > Script > Save recording .

TIP!If you use a paper

to make the alpha, besure you have openedthe paper le in PSP dur-ing the script (and dur-

ing all the le ers).

3.- Open a new blank le er and click File > Script > Run Script , select the name of your scriptand now youll see all the e ects on your le er. Maybe you have to click Yes to con nue thescript.A er this, you can use the keyboard short cut! You just open a new le er and click Ctrl+Y

4.- Repeat this steps in all the le ers, and you will have a full alpha in few minutes! You canuse the Scripts for repe ve ac ons to save your me.

If you use PSP lters, you wont need to change the se ngs, but if you use Eye Candy lters,maybe you will need to.
