The film landscape in Europe is changing. An influx of English productions is providing a host of new opportuni-ties for young actors. In Autumn 2016, the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg will offer a new seminar in order to equip young actors with the tools they need to fill this unique and growing niche.

LESS IS MORE

We are searching for highly motivated aspiring young actors. The program aims to develop participants’ acting craft as well as fluency in the English language. Experi-enced professionals from across the globe will host discus-sions about a range of topics: everything from marketing, casting, and networking, to the globalization of the film industry.

But the very heart of the course lies in its prac-tical training. Seminar participants will take part in scene work and method-acting prepara-tions with internationally acclaimed acting coaches as well as gathering on-set experience in front of the camera. The footage will then be analyzed in depth on the silver screen together with the coaches and profession-al directors. It’s about body language, expression, emotional honesty, the flow of movement.

Seminar participants will work closely with experienced actors, acting agents, casting directors, acting coaches, Directors of Photography and directors. These expert mentors will help young actors acquire a comprehensive understanding of the complexities of screen acting. All of these workshop components will work together to fully equip graduates with the skills they need to successfully step into the international film market.

OVERVIEW

BACKGROUND

The film market is becoming ever more internationalized. New tax incentives and grant possibilities are drawing film productions to Europe. As a result, ambitious young actors suddenly have the possibility to think beyond their national markets and can present themselves internationally.

Films like THE READER, INGLORIOUS BASTERDS, GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL, BRIDGE OF SPIES or most recently SNOWDEN and the HOMELAND series were shot in Germany, where much of the supporting cast was filled with German and European actors.

The Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg is meeting these new developments head on. As of 2016, we are offering the International Screen Acting Workshop in English.

Together with the Swiss FOCAL STIFTUNG, CASTFOR-WARD/e-TALENTA and internationally experienced pro-fessionals from the film industry across the globe, we are raising bar in an already successful and widely popular screen-acting workshop to an entirely new and international level.

ABOUT

The Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg, which was found-ed in 1991, is now regarded as one of the leading interna-tional Film and Media Schools. The practice-based educa-tional concept – “learning by doing” – makes studying at the Filmakademie a unique experience. Our 500 Students are taught and tutored by more than 300 highly qualified experts in Media and Film.

The productions of the Filmakademie have already won almost all of the major national awards, among them a Golden Bear at the Berlinale, various German Short Film Awards, German Television Awards and Grimme Awards.

The Filmakademie has also enjoyed great success on an international level. This is not only demonstrated by the countless prizes won at major international commercial and animation film festivals, but also by awards such as the Golden Leopard of the Locarno Film Festival.

INTERNATIONAL ORIENTATION

The Filmakademie’s international focus is another impor-tant aspect of its work. Renowned lecturers from all over the world regularly teach in Ludwigsburg and exchange programmes with prestigious partner universities in the USA, Canada, Israel, Poland, Lebanon or France give stu-dents insights into foreign film worlds. There is also plenty to attract incoming students from foreign universities to Ludwigsburg, including a new course called “International Class” that offers English-language teaching modules as well as the brand new Screen Acting Workshop in Collabo-ration with FOCAL Stiftung of Switzerland and CASTFOR-WARD/e-TALENTA.
