INVESTING IN SAN DIEGOST EWA RDSHIP REPORT

ommunity need and a generous spirit have always gone hand in hand at Scripps. While we have grown and evolved to meet our community’s changing health care needs, throughout our history you have been there with your support.

I can’t tell you often enough how thankful we are for your generosity and trust, and for your partnership in making San Diego a healthier place to call home. From the latest treatment options and most advanced technology to digital solutions that make it easier for patients to

access care when and where they need it, your commitment to Scripps is an investment in health care today, and in the future.

In 2017, Scripps unveiled a comprehensive master plan to build new hospitals and outpatient facilities, as well as support infrastructure at each of our campuses. This plan sets the tone through 2030 and carries an estimated cost of $4.1 billion. During this changing time in US health care, we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to build the health system of the future, right here in San Diego.

In this report for 2018–2019, you’ll read more about the difference you’re already making and what’s coming soon.

c

From leading-edge care and improved access to a best-in-class health care experience for patients, Scripps continues to evolve and transform to meet the needs of a new health care era. We simply couldn’t do so without your leadership and support.

• At Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Center, we’re fighting cancer in new ways thanks to innovative discoveries and new treatment options.

• At Scripps Mercy Hospital, we’ll soon build a comprehensive cancer center, the first of many changes to come.

• At Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas, we’ve implemented a robotic surgery program and now we are putting plans into place for a significant hospital expansion.

• At Scripps Green Hospital and Scripps Clinic, we’re focusing on multi-specialty care, clinical research and our cornerstone graduate medical education programs.

• At Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, our priorities revolve around a Women’s Health Center, cardiology, emergency/trauma and Scripps MD Anderson.

STEWARDSHIP REPORT | 2018−2019

PETER MANES AND YOKO SAKAGUCHI When Peter Manes unexpectedly lost his first wife, he took comfort in the charitable causes he was involved with. Through his work with Scripps Health Foundation he struck up a friendship with then-volunteer Yoko Sakaguchi, which blossomed into marriage. Peter had previously listed Scripps as an IRA beneficiary, but his financial planner suggested he make the gift now. At this year's Spinoff event, Peter and Yoko held their bid card high for a naming opportunity at one of our cancer center locations.

The generous Partners of Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Center contribute to the fund that supports recruitment of clinical staff, educational training and many supportive cancer care services, such as genetic counseling, nurse navigation, oncology social workers, support groups and more. Medicare and private insurance do not reimburse for many of these services.

DONOR SPOTLIGHT

cripps has always been a leader in cancer care in San Diego, and our dynamic partnership with MD Anderson Cancer Center strengthens our mission to bring the best possible health care to our community. Rapid advancements

and new discoveries require us to take a more specialized approach, and philanthropy is an essential component due to the high cost of chemotherapy, clinical research and the supportive services needed to most effectively treat the whole patient during their journey. Your support is driving our ambitions. To enhance care and convenience, Scripps will expand Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Center on the Torrey Pines Mesa and will build the new Prebys Cancer Center at Scripps Mercy Hospital. Multidisciplinary care clinics will be in these centers, as well as at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas and Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. Our goal is to raise $45 million for these important initiatives.

Partners for Scripps MD Anderson Cancer CenterWith a gift of $1,000 or more, you will become a member of the Partners for Scripps MD Anderson. Your gift supports operational needs, such as continuing nursing education, patient support services and counseling. Join today at Scripps.org/Partners.

RUDY VILKUTAITIS Rudy joined in on the mission to make cancer history while his wife, Marsha Morgan, was battling the disease. Unfortunately, Marsha lost her fight, but Rudy continues to support cancer care at Scripps, participating in numerous initiatives and serving on the Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Center Advisory Council. The Marsha Morgan and Rudy Vilkutaitis Waiting Area inside the multidisciplinary suite at our Torrey Pines location will be named in their honor. Rudy feels strongly about helping fight the disease that took his wife and urges others to give, too, because the life you save may be your own.

cripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas has been providing excellent medical care to North County for more than four decades. As part of our commitment to stay on the forefront of modern medicine, the hospital has launched a successful robotic surgical program with

critical equipment for its operating rooms, fully funded by philanthropic support. The future is bright as the upcoming capital campaign launches to fund the hospital’s expansion. Plans include a new medical office pavilion, set to open in fall 2020, and an acute care building to be complete in 2026.

SCRIPPS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL ENCINITAS

JAN GONZALES Jan, a retired educator and animal lover, wanted to show her gratitude to the emergency department at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas for helping her and her late husband, Joe, through the years. Jan donated her house and has made other planned gifts, all totaling $1.5 million. She also gives annually to fund equipment for the emergency department. Her most recent donation was used to purchase a chest compression machine and an ultrasound imaging system.

SANDY MARRIOTT BERTHA Sandy and her three sisters head Marriott Daughters Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting community education, health and human services. The organization has contributed over $500,000 to fund critical technology and equipment at Scripps Encinitas, including a surgical robot and the hospital’s expansion efforts. Sandy is a longtime Encinitas resident, mom of four and a world champion hydrofoil surfer. She was awarded with this year’s Scripps’ Distinguished Achievement Award for her community leadership and philanthropy.

Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas is grateful to its generous community volunteers and supporters, who share and help make hospital priorities a reality.

MARILYN AND DAVID ANDERSON Inspired by advances in medical care and research, Marilyn and Dave Anderson chose Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas as one of their philanthropic efforts. After earning degrees at Northwestern University, Harvard and University of Illinois, Dave went on to enjoy a rewarding career as a scientist at New Mexico–based Sandia National Laboratory. Even after retiring and settling in Carlsbad, their interest in science and medicine remains intact. Since 2014, the couple has pledged $520,000 to Scripps Health, which includes $200,000 to the robotic surgery program at Scripps Encinitas, another $200,000 to help expand its operating rooms and add healing art, and most recently, $100,000 in support of the Briggs Challenge in celebration of the one-year anniversary of Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Center.

STEWARDSHIP REPORT | 2018−2019

ver the past year, Scripps Clinic and Scripps Green Hospital have continued to strengthen our focus on multi-specialty care, clinical research and graduate medical education. The Internal Medicine Residency Program at

Scripps Clinic and Scripps Green Hospital is one of the nation’s most competitive, and a cornerstone of this institution. Part of what sets Scripps Clinic apart is our dedication to leading-edge research and moving scientific discoveries to clinical applications, with the ultimate goal of advancing patient treatment and care. The combined programs of Scripps Green Hospital and Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla are ranked first in the region and are among the best in the nation in eight specialties, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2019–2020 Best Hospitals list. Scripps’ outstanding reputation also helps us recruit some of the world’s finest young physicians for postgraduate training. For the 2018–2019 class, there were more than 1,000 applications for only 15 available positions.

SCRIPPS CLINIC AND SCRIPPS GREEN HOSPITAL

THE SHULTZ FAMILY The Shultz Family has been giving to Scripps for more than 40 years, and their generosity has spanned two generations. They have supported an array of initiatives throughout Scripps Clinic, including graduate medical education, and research and orthopedics. The Shultz family has also created an endowment that provides an award for excellence to a select graduate from the Scripps Clinic Internal Medicine Residency Program.

AUGUSTINE “GUS” RAPONE The late Augustine “Gus” Rapone was committed to training our future physician leaders through his generous support of one of three fellowships in Scripps Clinic’s Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology program. Thanks, in part, to the Rapone family’s commitment, Hugh Greenway Jr., MD, has had the opportunity to train more than 50 fellows in the most advanced techniques to treat and cure skin cancer. Our internationally recognized Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology program is lauded as one of the best in the country.

With the help of our supporters, Scripps Clinic and Scripps Green Hospital will continue to advance medical research and train eager young doctors in some of the best hospital programs in the country.

DONOR SPOTLIGHT

TERRY WEINBERGER Like many donors, Terry started as a patient who wanted to thank Scripps for a job well done. She and her late husband, Brent, had shared a passion for philanthropy, so supporting Scripps’ top priorities came naturally. She pledged $250,000 to name a waiting room in Brent's honor at the Scripps Clinic John R. Anderson V Medical Pavilion. Terry also serves on the Scripps Clinic and Green Hospital Advisory Council, is a Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Center Founder and a Heritage Circle member. She supports initiatives across the Scripps system, including Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Center, Scripps Clinic Golf Invitational, Spinoff and Rockin’ Encinitas. Terry is an inspiration, and we are grateful for her commitment to healing, enhancing and saving lives.

ig changes are in store for San Diego’s longest-established and only Catholic hospital, Scripps Mercy Hospital. Mercy’s historic College of Nursing building is undergoing a renovation and will become home to

supportive services for patients and their families, graduate medical education and administrative services. Construction will be complete in 2021. Breaking ground in August 2019, the 40,000-square-foot, comprehensive Prebys Cancer Center will open in spring 2022. A new medical pavilion will be constructed on the corner of Lewis Street and Fourth Avenue, as will a parking structure at Sixth and Washington Avenues, both to be complete in 2023.

SCRIPPS MERCY HOSPITAL

JUDY BENSON Judy, a former labor and delivery nurse at Scripps Mercy, fondly remembers working and teaching childbirth preparation classes in the Mercy College of Nursing building. Soon, visitors can see a piece of her family’s legacy. Judy has pledged $1 million to the renovation and will have The Benson Family Cancer Prevention and Resource Center named in their honor. Cancer prevention is a cause close to her heart—she lost her husband, Roger, and daughter, Pam, to the disease. We are grateful for Judy’s support.

THE SCARANO FAMILY FOUNDATION Philanthropy runs deep in the Scarano family. Beverly, the family matriarch, has been a longtime supporter of a local homeless organization, Father Joe's Villages. Bob and his wife, Sheryl, have supported many nonprofits over the years. Most recently Sheryl worked with the La Jolla Music Society to open the multimillion-dollar Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center. While Bob is a newer donor to Scripps Mercy Hospital, he is no stranger to Scripps. He serves on the Scripps Mercy Hospital Community Advisory Council. The Scarano Family Foundation also gave $175,000 to name the Scarano Family Physician and Staff Lounge at Prebys Cancer Center.

Scripps Mercy Hospital cares for patients on two campuses, Hillcrest and Chula Vista. Thanks to our generous donors, we can serve more of San Diego with a consistently high level of care, and provide a respected network of physicians and specialists.

cripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla has grown over the past decade to include Prebys Cardiovascular Institute, Barbey Family Emergency and Trauma Center, and Scripps Clinic’s John R. Anderson V Medical Pavilion. It’s also home to the Wolfstein Sculpture Park and features

serene visual art throughout the hospital as part of its innovative Healing Arts Program. During the next year, Scripps La Jolla will focus its fundraising efforts on a new acute care hospital tower that will house a women’s health center, operating rooms and additional medical-surgical beds.

SCRIPPS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL LA JOLLA

BARBARA SMITH Barbara spent many years volunteering at Scripps La Jolla, but only became a financial supporter after a neighbor told her about an irrevocable estate gift she made to honor her late husband. Barbara liked the idea and soon after, made an irrevocable estate gift of her own to Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Center. She followed up with an outright gift and sponsored an original piece of art, Blue Magic, that hangs in Prebys Cardiovascular Institute. Barbara also appeared in a video that showcases how women—physicians, executives, philanthropists, etc.—have and continue to advance Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.

DIANE AND RODNEY DAMMEYER Diane and Rodney have supported Scripps La Jolla since 2003, one year after they relocated from Chicago. The Dammeyers have given two gifts of $250,000 to support the building of Prebys Cardiovascular Institute and to the Healing Arts Program, and provided $500,000 to name the institute’s catheterization laboratory. In 2018, Diane began serving on the Scripps La Jolla Advisory Council and became involved in early discussions around how to engage more women philanthropists.

Several of our donors have chosen to contribute to the most important funding needs at Scripps La Jolla. The following supporters have also sponsored an original piece of art as part of the Healing Arts Program.

DONOR SPOTLIGHT

JAIN MALKIN Jain, a longtime Scripps La Jolla Advisory Council member, has given to Scripps La Jolla for many years, including her sponsorship of artwork as part of the Healing Arts Program. The founder of Jain Malkin Inc., an interior architecture firm specializing in health care design, she is one of the country’s leading researchers on healing environments. Prior to retiring, she worked on many Scripps projects and authored several books on health care design. Jain also taught at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design. She now devotes her time to her husband, Gary, painting and her banjo.

LOOKING AHEAD Philanthropy has been at the heart of our organization since the very beginning. Scripps was founded through philanthropy, and that legacy continues today. With the support of our donors, Scripps has become a premier health care system in the region. All gifts matter and there are several ways you can get involved in the future of Scripps as we enter a new era of health care.

FOR FOUR DECADES, SCRIPPS PRESIDENT’S COUNCIL MEMBERS HAVE BEEN A CORNERSTONE IN OUR EFFORTS TO HEAL, ENHANCE AND SAVE LIVES. President’s Council members, who annually give between

$1,000 and $25,000 to our greatest needs, are key to our evolution. Members also enjoy perks, including invitations to exclusive events, hospital tours and an annual parking pass.

PLANNED GIFTS—IN THE FORM OF MAKING SCRIPPS A BENEFICIARY IN YOUR WILL OR LIVING TRUST, DONATING INVESTMENTS, OR GIFTING REAL ESTATE—ARE CRITICAL TO OUR MISSION. To honor our supporters who have notified us of their planned gifts, we established Scripps Heritage Circle and Mercy McAuley Heritage Circle. Through your planned gift to Scripps,

you are helping support the work of our dedicated physicians, nurses and staff for years to come.

HERITAGE CIRCLES

PRESIDENT’S COUNCIL AND MERCY 1000

PATRICIA LOH AND ANDY LOH, PHD The Lohs have donated to Scripps for many years and became major donors last year, naming a room in Scripps Encinitas’ emergency department.

Scripps Encinitas holds a special place in the Lohs' hearts. Soon after their gift to Scripps Encinitas, their daughter-in-law, Megan, experienced pregnancy-related complications during a cruise. They flew back so that she could be treated. Their son, Major Geoffrey Loh, MD, a US Army physician, was subsequently deployed to Iraq, and sent an American flag that flew over a field hospital in Baghdad to honor Dr. Accardi and the team that cared for Megan.

“People are living longer, and it’s in many ways due to good doctors and new technologies. We want to help support that effort and benefit the entire community

for the future.”

“We feel blessed to be a part of the Mercy community. We all have the opportunity to leave a legacy, whether great or small, that will positively have an impact on our community.”

MARY AND DAN MULVIHILL Mary and Dan’s support for Scripps Mercy Hospital spans decades. In the 1980s, one of the Sisters of Mercy asked Dan to help launch the Mercy Hospital Foundation. He couldn’t help but say, “Yes, Sister!” Shortly thereafter, Dan and Mary were instrumental in establishing Mercy 1000, a campaign to enlist people to donate $1,000 annually to support the hospital they loved. Dan also served on the Scripps Health Board of Trustees and was a board member for the former Scripps Foundation for Medicine and Science.
