Christian communities remember the names of their dead. These names are heard in
prayers of intercession during the liturgy and in the chanting of the litany of the saints at the Easter Vigil; they are seen on memorial cards and grave markers.
Especially in the month of November, we remember those who have died in prayer.
During this month, many churches have the custom of giving a place of
honor to a book in which parishioners write the names of their dead.
This year, we will have a Book of the Names of the Dead in the narthex of
the church.
You are invited to write the name of individuals who have died on its pages.
Let us pray for them.
This book began on November 1, 2014. Please add the names of individuals
who have died in December 2016 and this year 2017.
November is the month of All Souls. Let us remember to pray for

32º. Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario Sabiduría 6,12-16: Encuentran la sabiduría quiénes la buscan
Salmo 62: Mi alma está sedienta de ti, Señor, Dios mío
1 Tesalonicenses 4,13-17: A los que han muerto en Jesús, Dios los
llevará con él
Mateo 25, 1-13: Las vírgenes prudentes En estos domingos «finales» del año litúrgico, los textos nos dirigen una
invitación a reflexionar sobre el «final» de toda existencia. Éste final es
considerado no sólo como la meta en que la vida adquiere realización o acabamiento, sino también como la meta del caminar histórico colectivo del ser
humano y de la realidad toda. Semanas para contemplar este aspecto ineludible
de nuestras vidas.
La primera lectura, del Libro de la Sabiduría, es un himno que canta los
maravillas de la Sabiduría. Ésta sale al encuentro de quienes la buscan, de quienes
la aman, y ella misma se muestra. La sabiduría es una cualidad, una manera en que Dios se manifiesta a quienes realmente le buscan. La única condición para que este
encuentro se llegue a dar, es estar abierto a la sabiduría, buscarla; como se busca a Dios. (Importante darse cuenta de que la Sabiduría es presentada en este libro
como «personificada», pero no «hipostasiada»: la personificación es simplemente
una figura literaria, una forma de hablar).
Por su parte Pablo, en la carta a los Tesalonicenses, intenta responder
las dudas de algunos hermanos que han ingresado hace poco a la comunidad. Estos
hermanos consideran desfavorecidos a los difuntos porque iban a estar ausentes de la cercana venida del Señor. Pablo reafirma la enseñanza que él recibió. Los
que murieron en Jesús estarán presentes con él en el último día. Ellos resucitarán
en primer lugar y los que quedemos seremos llevados al Señor. Porque si creemos que Jesús murió y resucitó, Dios llevará consigo a quienes murieron en Jesús,
pues para Pablo en el bautismo, expresión de conversión, nos sumergimos en la muerte del Señor para resucitar con él; así mismo quienes murieron con Cristo
resucitan con él porque han participado del camino, del seguimiento, y la alegría
por continuar anunciando la Utopía de Dios, que llamamos Reino. Terreno difícil para distinguir lo que es sustancia de nuestra fe –o de nuestra esperanza- sin
confundirla con una cosmología o mitología del tiempo y de la cultura helenista que no era la de Jesús... teniendo en cuenta que la cosmología o representación de la
vida y la muerte en la cultura de la sociedad en que vivió Jesús tampoco son para
nosotros «Palabra de Dios»...
El evangelio del día de hoy nos trae la parábola de las diez vírgenes,
prudentes y necias, que estaban esperando al novio. Recordemos que el reino de
Dios también es simbolizado con un banquete de bodas... «El novio» designa a Jesús mismo (Mateo 9,15).
La parábola nos enseña que el final de cada persona depende del camino que ella escoja, y que de alguna manera, la muerte es consecuencia de la vida –
prudente o necia– que se ha llevado. Muchachas necias son las que han escuchado
el mensaje de Jesús pero no lo han llevado a la práctica. Muchachas prudentes son las que lo han traducido en su vida, por eso entran al banquete del Reino. De esta
manera, la lectura del evangelio se enmarca en la preocupación de los cristianos recién convertidos de la comunidad de Tesalónica, Grecia, (los Tesalonicenses), la
preocupación por el final de los tiempos.
La parábola es una seria llamada de atención para nosotros. "ustedes velen, porque no saben el día ni la hora". No dejen que en ningún momento se
apague la lámpara de la fe, porque cualquier momento puede ser el último. Estén atentos, porque la fiesta de la vida está teniendo lugar ya, ahora mismo. El Reino
está ya aquí. Enciendan las lámparas con el aceite de la fe, con el aceite de la
fraternidad, de la caridad mutua. Nuestros corazones llenos así de luz nos permitirán vivir la auténtica alegría aquí y ahora. Los demás, los que viven a
nuestro alrededor se verán también iluminados, conocerán también el gozo de la presencia del Novio esperado. Jesús nos pide que nunca nos falte ese aceite en
nuestras lámparas.
Ciertamente tenemos que aprovechar el momento presente, pero para construir fraternidad, no para buscar de manera egoísta nuestro propio bienestar.
Las vírgenes necias pusieron otro aceite en sus lámparas: el que sólo sirve para alumbrar egoístamente nuestro camino. No pudieron entrar en la fiesta de la boda.
Y si hubiesen entrado no hubiesen entendido absolutamente nada. En la fiesta de
la hermandad los que sólo miran por su propio interés se aburren. Sería bueno preguntarnos de qué tipo es el aceite que alimenta nuestras
lámparas. Sería bueno examinar cómo trabajamos día a día para aumentar la intensidad de nuestro fuego, y de nuestras reservas. ¿O acaso desperdiciamos las
ocasiones de crear fraternidad, de amar y servir a los hermanos? Con la colaboración de Servicio Bíblico Latinoamericano

Sugerencias para Adviento Adviento significa llegada (ad-venio en latín, o "venir a") – los cuatro domingos y los días de la semana anteriores al 25 de diciembre – es un período lento para reflexionar sobre la encarnación de Dios. Este período es para recordar para recordar la primera venida de Cristo como niño Dios en Belén y recordar que estamos esperando su regreso. La corona de Adviento es una costumbre ancestral en la iglesia. La progresiva iluminación de las velas simboliza la expectativa y la esperanza que rodea la primera venida de nuestro Señor en el mundo y la anticipación de su segunda venida. Según la tradición, la corona tiene sus raíces en una tradición germánica de colocar velas en medio de una rueda del árbol de hoja perenne, lo que significa el triunfo de la luz y la vida en los oscuros días de diciembre.
Árboles de hoja perenne simbolizan la vitalidad de la vida.
La naturaleza circular de la corona representa la eternidad de Dios.
Cuatro velas significan las cuatro semanas de Adviento.
Las velas púrpuras representan la penitencia y oración necesaria para prepararse para la Navidad.
La vela rosa se enciende el tercer domingo de Adviento, que es un día de regocijo porque marca el punto medio a la Navidad.
La luz representa a Cristo, la luz del mundo.

IN A VOCATION-CROSS PROGRAM This program involves praying for all who generously share in Church ministry in particular, for priests, brothers, deacons and sisters. Hopefully this experience will motivate us to take seriously our vocation as members of the Body of Christ.The Spirit is calling men and women, and preparing boys and girls from our day school and CCE program to serve in the Church. May our prayer for vocations inspire all of us to listen attentively to the call of God’s Spirit and respond with generous hearts. HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
Let us know your willingness to take a VOCATION CROSS home for one week and pray for vocations. QUESTIONS??? Call Sister Charline at 713-682-2242.
Father will present you with the VOCATION CROSS and prayers at
the Mass you are assigned. At the end of your week, return the VOCATION CROSS and prayers to one of the ushers BEFORE
Mass begins. Encourage another family/person living alone to sign up for the experience.
