Scripture Verse for the Week: When Simon Peter arrived after him, he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there, and the cloth that had covered his head, not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place. Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed. - Jn 20:6-8

ALL ABOUT EASTER The name for the day of Jesus Ressurection is Pasch (Passover) in all but English speaking coun-tries The English Name: Easter might come from

the early English word Eastre, which was either the name for spring, a festival held in spring or a pagan goddess. Or it might come from the German word Eostarun, meaning dawn.

The Date: Most Western Christian churches observe Easter on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere—a date that can fall on any Sunday between March 22 and April 25. Eastern Orthodox churches consider other fac-tors as well, which often means a later celebra-tion.

The Colors: White, yellow, purple and green are the most popular. White stands for light, purity and joy; Yellow for glory of God, Heav-en; Purple for royalty or suffering; Green sym-bolizes new life.

Traditions: The custom of decorating eggs dates to the Middle Ages.

Some symbols:

Lilies: Symbolize new life

Eggs: Also represent new life

Rabbits, bunnies: Symbolize the fertility of spring

Lamb: Represents Jesus; relates his death to that of the lamb sacrificed on the first Passover

Candles: The lighting and extinguishing of candles represents the life and death of Jesus

THE JELLY BEAN PRAYER RED is for the blood He gave. GREEN is for the grass He made. YELLOW is for the sun so bright. ORANGE is for the edge of night. BLUE is for the sins we made. WHITE is for the grace He gave. PURPLE is for His hour of sorrow. PINK is for our new tomorrow. A bag full of jelly beans, colorful and sweet, is a prayer, is a promise, is a special treat. HAPPY EASTER!

Please understand with the Governor’s “STAY AT HOME” order, that means all of us who can, should be staying home. We all need to do our part in keeping this virus under control.

Reading and reflecting on the Lord’s Passion from one of

the Gospels Easter – Rejoice and Be Glad the risen Lord is with you always! Celebrate, pray and give thanks, contact family and friends especially those who are alone. In the words of Pope Francis as we confront the current crisis and prepare to celebrate Easter: “The Lord asks us and, in the midst of our tempest, invites us to reawaken and put into practice that solidarity and hope capable of giving strength, support and meaning to those hours when everything seems to be floundering. The Lord awakens so as to reawaken and revive our Easter faith. We have an anchor: by his cross we have been saved. We have a rudder: by his cross we have been redeemed. We have hope: by his cross we have been healed and embraced so that noth-ing and no one can separate us from his redeeming love. In the midst of isolation when we are suffering from lack of tender-ness and chances to meet up, and we experience the loss of so many things, let us once again listen to the proclamation that saves us: he is risen and living by our side….Do not be afraid (Mt. 28:5). And we, together with Peter, cast all our anxieties onto him, for he cares about us (1Peter 5:7) I received an e-mail today and it said the Spanish word for Lent is cuarentena which is equivalent to quarantine. During Lent we seek to quarantine ourselves from sin and selfishness so as to emerge healthier. More truly instruments of God’s peace and channels of his love. May you all experience peace, hope and joy in this most holy season. You are in my prayers and heart as we await the day we can rise from our homes and live a fuller life. + Peace & Love + Fr. Bob

Rice Bowls may be returned when Masses resume Or you can drop them off at the church office.

An Easter Prayer Loving and eternal God, for three days your Son laid in the tomb. We now celebrate the glory of his res-urrection and rejoice in the new life he promises to all who are faithful to him. Fill all believers with the joy of Easter. May we come to share completely in the new life of Christ who now lives and reigns forever and ever. Amen.

Catholics have always joined together in prayer during times of crisis throughout the ages. We have ministered to the sick, attended to the dying and buried the dead. May this un-precedented time in our histo-ry be a time we remember who we are and whose we are-disciples of Jesus Christ, cruci-fied and risen. May we con-tinue to demonstrate love of God and of our neighbor. In addition, may we remember to pray for everyone involved as we weather the storm. Easter Reflection by St. Melito

For the sake of suffering humanity Christ came down from heaven to earth, clothed in our humanity in the Virgin’s womb and was born a man. Having then a body capable of suffering, he took the pain of fallen humankind upon himself; he triumphed over the diseases of soul and body that were its cause, and by his Spirit, which is incapable of dying, he dealt our destroyer, death, a fatal blow. He was led forth like a lamb; he was slaughtered like a sheep. He ransomed us from our servitude to the world, as he ransomed Israel from the hand of Phar-aoh. He sealed our souls with his own Spirit, and our body with his own blood. He cast the devil into mourning as Moses cast Pharaoh into mourning. He is the Passover that is our salvation.
