What we do

Adsum for Women & Children seeks to improve life out-comes for individuals and families who are marginalized in our community and experience a diminished quality of life.

Our mission is:

to support women, children, youth and transgender persons who are experiencing homelessness or at risk in a client-centered non-judgmental way

to provide services and housing – from crisis to stability through short and longer term housing, programs and resources that offer safety and an opportunity for growth

to advocate for women and children and to work to eliminate poverty and the societal conditions that create homelessness.

Locations

Adsum House is a 16 bed emergency shelter in downtown Halifax open 24 hrs. Since opening in 1983, we have assisted thousands of people.

The Alders in Halifax offers women and families homes in the city. We also run drop-in services for women who experience homelessness to shower, do laundry, make calls and connect with support staff.

Adsum Court has 24 apartments in Dartmouth, where rents are geared to income. Programs and supports enable tenants to engage in their community.

Adsum Centre has 16 bedroom units in Lakeside. We offer individuals and families programming and a safe place to live and grow, while addressing their personal barriers to stable housing.

Family Condominiums are owned by Adsum and dispersed in an established neighbourhood provide safe, affordable quality homes to single moms and their children.

We house up to 80 people every night of the year
