Ready for New Challenges

Arca Systems invests in long term development

projects. It is here that market requirements meet our

technological and application skills. This results in solu-

tions that set new standards.

We have driven the development of the foldable

pallet container concept. Several new products have

recently been launched, both in Europe and the USA

and more are on the way.

The Everest pallet is the product of many years of

intensive development work. The result is a winning

combination of strong recyclable material, innovative

design and efficient new production technology. Everest

is the only plastic pallet that meets the requirements for

hygiene and strength without additional reinforcement.

For the bulk storage and transportation of fruit and

vegetable concentrates, as well as some chemicals, we

introduced a new IBC (Intermediate Bulk Container).

The IBC is an excellent replacement for traditional pack-

aging in this fast growing industry.

Gemini fulfils the food industry’sneed for a transport system thatdoes not compromise hygienestandards.

Arca IBC, an efficient,economical and hygienicliquid handling containerwhich replaces metal and

wooden alternatives.

The Everest pallet is unique. It has an embedded RFID tag,

which ensures good traceability throughout its lifetime.

Arca Systems is continuously expanding across geo-

graphical borders, technological boundaries and

commercial limits. We are a global company with

production and/or sales units in some 30 countries in

Europe, North and South America. We have a strongly

decentralised organisation, which means that we can

stay close to our markets, yet continue our development

in global networks. This ensures quick response to

customer needs and an efficient exchange of informa-

tion within the company.

PreLog is manufactured across several highly automated

production lines at our factory in Schwerin, Germany.

Automated production of Everest pallets at our Perstorp factory in Sweden.

Our Magnum containers have been used by the world’s leading automotive manufacturers for many years. New versions are constantly being developed to meet new requirements. The picture shows a new version with three skids and a label holder.

Products and systems for the automotive industry are an

important part of our business. We have developed

supply chain solutions for the industry, its suppliers and

distributors.

In collaboration with Volkswagen we have developed

a new container, which will have a major impact on the

industry. It sets a new standard for the distribution of

automotive components. It is lighter and has a higher

capacity than the traditional version.

Recycled material from old containers ready for reuse.

The new crates have a 28% higher capacity

with a system weight of 20 kg.

Our new KLT range sets the standard for the European automotive industry.

A large quantity of the original units has become

redundant. Arca Systems has the answer. We recycle

the material from the old containers and reuse it in the

production of the new style boxes.

In the USA, Arca Systems sets the benchmark for

movement of automotive components with our foldable

pallet containers (Magnum and Xytec).

General Motors has, for example, saved millions of

dollars through not having to dispose of paper or card-

board single trip packaging. The Magnum is used

throughout Europe, in a variety of applications, for the

automotive, as well as other industries. Ford Motor

Company uses our pallet containers in its advanced

European logistics system.

Many automotive companies use components from

many countries. An efficient supply chain requires, not

only secure parts delivery but also economical return of

the empty containers. Our Small Box range has been

developed to optimise product flow in automotive

plants. Volvo and Scania, amongst others, use these

smaller transport units to deliver lighter parts directly to

the assembly lines, without taking too much space. The

boxes are nested for return shipment which means they

take up less space and reduce return transport costs.

The electronics industry demands precision and clean-

liness. The ideal solution is to deliver components

directly from the supplier to the clean production area,

without unpacking. The containers have to be made

from approved conductive material.

Arca Systems supplies a range of storage trays and

bins in conductive material. Pallets and dollies are also

available in antistatic material.

The complexity of electroniccomponentry increases the needfor containers in approved conductive material.

Postal companies, worldwide, are constantly faced with

the challenge of improving mail delivery systems.

Electronic sorting equipment places high demands on

the containers used in such systems. Arca Systems has,

for many years, collaborated with Europe’s most innova-

tive postal services to create efficient solutions. As a

result we are able to tailor solutions to the specific

needs in each country.

A new container, in three sizes, for the French postal service.

Bulky wooden boxes and stillages have been replaced by

plastic foldable pallet containers for distributing newspapers

Hygienic and Secure for our Food

Arca Systems’ containers are used extensively in the

food industry. We have a number of different carrier

systems, which satisfy both hygiene and security

issues. In response to a growing demand for hygienic

foldable pallet containers, we have introduced Gemini.

Its smooth internal and external surfaces make it easy to

wash and keep clean. The foldability facilitates econo-

mical return transport. Big Box is a container mainly

used for internal handling. It is a high hygienic pallet

container, which is replacing heavy metal containers

and stillages.

Wherever possible, the grocery trade will avoid

unhygienic wooden pallets. Arca Systems has deve-

loped a range of plastic pallet systems that satisfy

hygiene requirements and are also suitable for in store

display.

The IBC is produced from homogenous food industry approved Polyethylene.

The material is recyclable and replaces fibre based

and metal products.

Arca IBC allows product to bestored outside, for long periods oftime, even in a tropical climate.

Hygiene and product integrity have a high priority in the food industry. Arca’s IBC iseasy to keep clean due to its hygienic design and can be used in factoryclean areas.

In conjunction with the world’s leading food manu-

facturer, we have developed a totally new concept

specifically for the storage and transportation of liquid

concentrates. Our new IBCs (Intermediate Bulk

Containers) are used to store and transport fruit and

vegetable concentrates from producer to processor.

We are currently developing many new versions for this

rapidly growing market.

over again. We then take the containers back, grind

them up and make them into new products.

In Europe and the USA, there is a growing emphasis

on pool systems for the distribution and display of fresh

produce.

The containers form part of an advanced cross

border logistics chain and are used many thousands of

times. RTP (Returnable Transit Packaging) is a concept,

which is being applied to a wide variety of applications

across a number of industries. Arca Systems is at the

forefront of this development and is continually introdu-

cing new solutions.

PreLog is a range of foldable crates specifically for

fresh produce. Currently 5 million PreLog containers are

being used in pool systems in Europe. Growers and

other fresh produce suppliers pack directly into the

crate. The produce is well protected during transit.

Without repacking, the containers are sent to the retailReturnable systemsreduce the amount of packaging waste created. As a result huge cost savings are achieved.

Melog is meeting the growingdemand for returnable packaging in North and South America.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY MATERIALS

Our products are made of polyethylene andpolypropylene. These polymers are free fromadditives and are approved for use in the foodindustry. They are weather resistant and withs-tand oils and most chemicals. Some of ourproducts are manufactured in expanded polyp-ropylene or polyethylene. These are noise-absorbing materials.

RETURNABLE SYSTEMS AND RECYCLING

Returnable systems are becoming increasinglypopular. Using a product over and over again,year after year, results in substantial financialsavings and conservation of natural resources.Our products are strong and durable, makingthem ideal for pool and other returnablesystems.

RECYCLED MATERIAL

Polyethylene and polypropylene can be usedagain and again. We have developed produc-tion techniques to recycle and reuse thesematerials in the manufacture of new products.When reuse is no longer feasible, the materialsstill have value as an energy source. Plasticcontains as much energy as, and is far cleanerthan, oil. The only by-products are carbon diox-ide and water vapour.

We work with authorised partners who grindup the old plastic containers. The material iswashed and sent to us for use in the productionof new products.

Environmental statements are available on request.

For specific minimum quantities,we can produce containers in any colour or, as pictured,

in transparent plastic.

Our products are produced in a wide range of standard colours.

CONDUCTIVE MATERIAL

The basic raw material is polypropylene withcarbon black additive. The conductivity of theplastic does not deteriorate over time andleaves no residue. The products are only avail-able in black. As an option, most of our productscan be manufactured in conductive material.Please contact us for further information.

CUSTOMISED DESIGN

Many of our products were developed for speci-fic applications. In some cases this involvedmodifying existing containers. In others, our R&Dteam have designed something entirely new.

Our containers can be marked using anumber of techniques from relief moulding totampo printing. Different label holders, photo-etched areas for self-adhesive labels, or em-bedded RF-tags transponders ensure producttraceability throughout the supply chain.

Containers can be marked and also equipped with special inserts.

Removing the base of one Big Box and welding it to another makes a dual Big Box. It has a huge 1350 litre internal volume.

Stack Nest ContainersArca Systems offers a comprehensive range ofstack nest containers, which save on packagingcosts. These containers are suitable for thedistribution of goods in a variety of industries.They optimise space utilisation when nested fordistribution but take up 70% less space whennested for return or storage. Integra Pictor is the ideal solution for light dutyapplications. It has all the same features as the standard range. The Integra Pictor can be supplied with bale arms, instead of theattached lid. This enables other containersizes to be stacked without damaging thecontents of the box.

Large Foldable ContainersMAGNUM – A SOUND INVESTMENT

Our Magnum range is the complete returnablepackaging system, which offers many advantagesover conventional pallets, stillages, cartons andcollars. Magnum containers are used in a varietyof industries, which place high demands on thedistribution packaging. Their use gives significantcost savings over one trip alternatives.

The low tare weight makes it easy to manoeuvreand it is extremely quiet to use. When empty, itfolds to around one third of its erected size, savingvaluable space in storage or return transport.Magnum is made from expanded HDPE and is100% recyclable.

As an alternative to our standard Magnum return-able systems, FlatPac is the perfect solution fortransporting components and items, where theweight does not exceed 250 kg. Its uniquedesign consists of a robust pallet and lid and aheavy-duty plastic sleeve with integral baseplate, which is attached to the sleeve. FlatPaccan be easily erected and disassembled by oneperson. When empty the sleeve assemblyconcertinas and fits neatly onto the base. Arca Bag-in-box IBC is a totally new concept. It is the result of a development project in coop-eration with global food and beverage compa-nies who handle large volumes of liquid product.

The concept is based on large foldablecontainers with flexible liner bags. The liner bagis placed inside the IBC and filled with the liquid.This results in a packaging system, which:

• Dramatically reduces packaging costs, compared to traditional alternatives.

• Simplifies handling throughout the logistics process.

• Reduces the use of packaging material – the Arca IBC is returnable and reusable.

• Provides hygienic, safe transportation and storage of liquid products.

• Is returnable, reusable and – by the end of its useful life – totally recyclable. Arca IBC is manufactured using the latest

techniques in plastic science, to give a productwith exceptional strength and durability. All ofthe important components are welded togetherin a sandwich design. This results in smooth,flat surfaces everywhere, together with goodstacking and loading capacity. When filled,Arca IBC’s can be stacked five high, and storedfor long periods. The strong welded construc-tion means the IBC can be used in all kinds oftransportation networks – truck, rail, sea con-tainer, break bulk ships – due to its ability toabsorb the movement of liquid. The lid is lockedto the sides with strong locking handles, whichcan also be sealed. All pallet bases have four-way entry to make forklift handling easy.

The Arca IBC can be ordered with a variety ofaccessories.

The BD versions accept liner bags with bottom discharge valves.

The Arca IBC can be stacked up to five high, when filled.

A folded IBC minimises the cost of return freight.

THE MODERN LOAD CARRIER

Everest is robust and easy to clean. Its tareweight is constant and it is suitable for all liftingsystems. It is weather resistant and fully recycla-ble. There are many methods of marking andidentification. Two RF-tags can be built into theEverest pallet, enabling it to carry much moreinformation about the goods than conventionalbar codes.

The pallet can be coated to give a better friction grip than wood, even at –30 °C.

A lightweight, smooth and hygienic design,with no sharp edges,

results in a safer pallet for operators.

Our plastic pallets are designed to meet therequired standards for clean and safe producehandling. The pallets are tested in accordancewith relevant international legislation and aremanufactured from food-approved, UV-stabi-lised HD-Polyethylene.
