PQS Question 103.2: Describe the Maritime Pre-position Force (MPF) principles of strategy and their relationship in support of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF)
Reference: NAVFAC P-2010, Naval Construction Force and Maritime Pre-positioning Force
MPF / MAGTF
• Principles of strategy
• An MPF operation is a strategic deployment option that uses equipment and supplies pre-positioned aboard forward-deployed ships. These ships are grouped together as a MPSRON of which there are three stationed around the globe
MPF / MAGTF
• During a MPF operation, an appropriate sized MAGTF and NSE are airlifted by air mobility command into a host nation’s secure airfield and taken to the arrival and assembly area to join up with their equipment and supplies in preparation for combat operations.
MPF / MAGTF
• Support of MAGTF
• The combination of maritime pre-positioned equipment/supplies, and airlifted elements associated with a MPSRON provides the MAGTF of 17,300 marines and an 850 person naval support element with sustainment capability for up to 30 days
