PLAYGROUNDS Our grounds are still a ‘work in progress’. We were hopeful that our new playing fields would be completed by the start of the school year, but unforeseen circumstances have delayed its completion. We now hope it will be ready by the week of February 13. Initially there will be some timetabled play during breaks for children in grades 1 - 6. Due to the height and spacing on the new rope climbing structure prep students will not be invited to use this equipment at this time.

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS NOW

2016 - 17 SEABROOK SCHOOL COUNCIL Calls for nominations from interested parents for 2017-18 for Seabrook School Council will be invited soon. Please consider supporting your child’s school by having some involvement either on school council or on the subcommittees. Nominations are now open for two parent vacancies on our school council. If you are an enthusiastic parent interested in getting more involved and having a say in what our school is doing, or know someone who is, we would love to hear from you. We are looking for people who are committed to improving the educational outcomes for all our students. Effective councils have a broad range of experience, skills and expertise. Face-to-face and online training is also available to help councillors develop the skills and knowledge for the job. Parents find their involvement satisfying and may also find that their children feel a greater sense of belonging. Nominations close on Monday 20

th

February and forms are available from school reception. Parents may wish to self-nominate or nominate another.

ALLERGIES Over the past few years there have been an increasing number of children who have been diagnosed as having severe allergic reactions to certain foods and insect stings. In our school there are students who have been medically diagnosed as having anaphylaxis which can be severe, rapidly progressive allergic reactions that can be life threatening. We want to provide a safe and supportive environment in which all students at risk can participate in all aspects of schooling. We also want to reduce the anxieties for these students and their families by educating our community about the dangers certain food products brought to school pose. Foods to be aware of include peanuts, tree nuts (hazelnuts, cashews and almonds) eggs, cow’s milk, wheat and soy. Other common allergens are insect stings, latex, medications and anesthesia. In a school setting cross contamination from one child to another during eating time is of concern. This contamination could be the result of food wrappings, crumbs, and spills, be airborne or through children sharing equipment within the classroom or outside environment. We appreciate your understanding and hope you will support the children who are affected by this condition. The children dealing with these allergies will feel supported knowing that other children are not bringing in particular, peanut and other nut based spreads and products to school. Should you require further information regarding allergies please refer to the following websites:
