Excursions and incursions abound as the children are immersed in their inquiries. Preps have already had visits from the police, ambulance and fire brigade as part of their inquiry into safety. Year 1 is now focusing on weather – a science focused unit which will extend their skills in observation and recording conditions. An excursion to Scienceworks will further extend this learning. Inventions and robotics abound in Year 2 and the children are looking forward to making robots during their incursion. This is a science technology based unit full of hands on work and experiments. Year 3 had visit to the State Library recently to hear a talk and discuss a special display. This has extended the children’s knowledge and understanding of explorers. The children have been using the Mac computers to assist in their research of explorers. Year 4 are very lucky to have attended ACMI and participated in a hands on session in film making. The teachers were very efficient in quickly booking this excursion in January so the children could have this opportunity. It is wonderful to see what the children have created and we have added this to our school foyer display. Year 5 are starting a very important and challenging unit on the distribution of world resources. Rights and responsibilities will feature in this inquiry. It is a relevant and significant investigation. Some staff have attended professional development in the action component of PYP and we will build this into this unit as well as share and develop the knowledge across the school. Exhibition is all encompassing for Year 6. The children will be exploring the impact of technology on our life. The exhibition is a culminating and significant event in the Primary Years Programme and it will be exciting to see what our passionate, talented Year 6 inquirers investigate and present to the community later this term. CYBER SAFETY Cyber safety was one concern discussed during the student led conferences. We are presenting weekly hints on cyber safety in our newsletter and looking to present a student workshop then parent night on this. Staff are constantly discussing safety issues with the children but a more formal presentation for children, staff and parents will also help. GARDEN It is wonderful to see the vegetable garden take shape and we look forward to using this to further develop the children’s knowledge of plants, growth and nutrition. PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE The Premier’s Reading challenge is coming to an end and we urge all families to complete this. With staff we are talking about the importance of children developing reading fluency and the need to encourage silent reading to improve speed and in depth understanding. PYP OPEN WEEK As part of PYP Open week Seabrook will be hosting a range of visitors on Tuesday August 5 and Thursday August 7. MAJOR FUND RAISING EVENTS FOR TERM 3 AND 4 The Fund Raising Sub-Committee would like to inform the community of major fund raising events for the remain-der of the year We will run our annual Cadbury chocolate fundraiser from Thursday 24
th July Boxes will be sent
home with the eldest child in each family The boxes contain 30 mixed chocolate bars at $200 each A full box will cost $6000 We hope families will be able to sell some of these to family friends and colleagues We do not support children selling chocolates without adult supervision All monies raised will go towards the childrenrsquos grounds and outdoor facilities

Dogs In response to a number of concerns School Council requests that dogs are not brought into the school grounds nor left unattended at the school gate We have a number of children who have been frightened by dogs tied up by the school gates and other children who suffer from potentially life threatening allergies Children wishing to bring pets to school for show and tell must seek permission prior from the classroom teacher Thank you for your support CURRICULUM DAY There will be a curriculum day on Friday the 29th August Students are not required to attend school on this day Have a great week ahead

Social networking is an extension of offline friendships and we should treat people the same way as we do in real
life Chatting to friends using IM chat or social networking is a great way to stay in touch and make new friends
However your child should always keep in mind that there are some risks meeting people online - especially if
they donrsquot know them in real life
Discuss the following aspects with your child to help them safely enjoy social networking
Limit your friend list Do you know your online friends in the real world If not consider changing your
settings to limit interaction with them or remove them
Protect personal information Restrict information that people can use to access your finances and to identify
where you live work or go out
Check on your images Does everything about your life really need to be online
How might this affect you and your reputation in the future
Stay respectful Are your posts respectful to friends and others
This is real life being online is no excuse for bad behaviour
Think twice before meeting offline If you want to meet someone offline be safe ndash take an adult with you

zombies and monsters attempting to kill players at night Players need to fight them with weapons or
hide from them There is minimal gore but young players may be scared as the creatures appear out
of nowhere
Parents should be aware that if children play online they may encounter other players who may
attempt to communicate them and make have created suggestive or offensive structures Talk to your
children about this Ensure your children donrsquot use their real names or provide any personal
information like their address their school or your work Sit with them for a couple of sessions to
see what they are doing and understand how it works Anecdotally parents say the main risk with
Minecraft is their children wanting to spend too much time playing it
Setting time limits from the beginning can help For young children a visual timer is very useful
Think about requiring your child to complete chores and homework before they can play Minecraft ndash
and stick to it
Keep in mind that the American Academy of Paediatrics recommends children be limited to 2 hours
of total media time a day with no media in childrenrsquos bedrooms They discourage any media
exposure for children under 2 years of age

Fundraising at Seabrook Primary
Dear parents and guardians we would like to inform you that some children from 4AU
are creating a fundraiser towards Red Cross Our previous inquiry was based on natural dis-
asters and one of the organisations that donate assistance for damage after a disaster is
Red Cross Our fundraiser consists of estimating how many lollies are in the lolly jar but it
contains two different types of jars One has jellybeans in it and the other is a crazy jar
This crazy jar consists of various types of lollies and candy
To become the winner you must estimate the closest or exact number of lollies con-
tained in the jar It costs twenty cents for a guess Our fundraiser begins on Monday the 4th
of August and will close on the 15th of August We will be out at snack time for seniors and
5 minutes for the juniors We would appreciate your donations

Parents need to give the correct money in a clearly marked envelope in the mornings only to the classroom teacher Teachers are
unable to accept money at the end of the school day as they are unable to leave money in the classroom Cash payments are
not accepted at the office Parents are welcome to call into the school office to collect a few school payment envelopes to leave at

MEDICAL AUTHORITY FORM can be found on our Skoolbag App and the school website This
form must be filled out and signed off by your doctor before we can administer the prescribed
drug
Please Note wherever possible medication should be given outside the school hours eg if
medication is required three times a day it is generally not required to be taken at school it can
be taken before and after school and before bed

Fundraising at Seabrook Primary
Dear parents and guardians we would like to inform you that some children from 4AU
are creating a fundraiser towards Red Cross Our previous inquiry was based on natural dis-
asters and one of the organisations that donate assistance for damage after a disaster is
Red Cross Our fundraiser consists of estimating how many lollies are in the lolly jar but it
contains two different types of jars One has jellybeans in it and the other is a crazy jar
This crazy jar consists of various types of lollies and candy
To become the winner you must estimate the closest or exact number of lollies con-
tained in the jar It costs twenty cents for a guess Our fundraiser begins on Monday the 4th
of August and will close on the 15th of August We will be out at snack time for seniors and
5 minutes for the juniors We would appreciate your donations

envelopes for each separate activityevent We cannot accept foreign coins as they are rejected by the bank so therefore will be
returned to you Please check you have included Australian currency only Money is not kept in the office so we cannot provide change
Parents need to give the correct money in a clearly marked envelope in the mornings only to the classroom teacher Teachers are
unable to accept money at the end of the school day as they are unable to leave money in the classroom Cash payments are

Please be advised that if your child is required to take prescribed medication whilst at school a
MEDICAL AUTHORITY FORM can be found on our Skoolbag App and the school website This
form must be filled out and signed off by your doctor before we can administer the prescribed
drug
Please Note wherever possible medication should be given outside the school hours eg if
medication is required three times a day it is generally not required to be taken at school it can
be taken before and after school and before bed
If medication is to be administered at school the medication must be in the original packaging

attempt to communicate them and make have created suggestive or offensive structures Talk to your
children about this Ensure your children donrsquot use their real names or provide any personal
information like their address their school or your work Sit with them for a couple of sessions to
see what they are doing and understand how it works Anecdotally parents say the main risk with
Minecraft is their children wanting to spend too much time playing it
Setting time limits from the beginning can help For young children a visual timer is very useful

When sending in money for incursions excursions fundraising etc please send in the correct money and ensure that you have separate
envelopes for each separate activityevent We cannot accept foreign coins as they are rejected by the bank so therefore will be
returned to you Please check you have included Australian currency only Money is not kept in the office so we cannot provide change
Parents need to give the correct money in a clearly marked envelope in the mornings only to the classroom teacher Teachers are
unable to accept money at the end of the school day as they are unable to leave money in the classroom Cash payments are
not accepted at the office Parents are welcome to call into the school office to collect a few school payment envelopes to leave at

Please be advised that if your child is required to take prescribed medication whilst at school a
MEDICAL AUTHORITY FORM can be found on our Skoolbag App and the school website This
form must be filled out and signed off by your doctor before we can administer the prescribed
drug
Please Note wherever possible medication should be given outside the school hours eg if
medication is required three times a day it is generally not required to be taken at school it can
be taken before and after school and before bed
If medication is to be administered at school the medication must be in the original packaging

Parents should be aware that if children play online they may encounter other players who may
attempt to communicate them and make have created suggestive or offensive structures Talk to your
children about this Ensure your children donrsquot use their real names or provide any personal
information like their address their school or your work Sit with them for a couple of sessions to
see what they are doing and understand how it works Anecdotally parents say the main risk with
Minecraft is their children wanting to spend too much time playing it
Setting time limits from the beginning can help For young children a visual timer is very useful
Think about requiring your child to complete chores and homework before they can play Minecraft ndash

MEDICAL AUTHORITY FORM can be found on our Skoolbag App and the school website This
form must be filled out and signed off by your doctor before we can administer the prescribed

Please Note wherever possible medication should be given outside the school hours eg if
medication is required three times a day it is generally not required to be taken at school it can
be taken before and after school and before bed
If medication is to be administered at school the medication must be in the original packaging

Dear parents and guardians we would like to inform you that some children from 4AU
are creating a fundraiser towards Red Cross Our previous inquiry was based on natural dis-
asters and one of the organisations that donate assistance for damage after a disaster is
Red Cross Our fundraiser consists of estimating how many lollies are in the lolly jar but it
contains two different types of jars One has jellybeans in it and the other is a crazy jar
This crazy jar consists of various types of lollies and candy
To become the winner you must estimate the closest or exact number of lollies con-
tained in the jar It costs twenty cents for a guess Our fundraiser begins on Monday the 4th
of August and will close on the 15th of August We will be out at snack time for seniors and
5 minutes for the juniors We would appreciate your donations
