SeaCURE® BALLAST WATER MANAGEMENT SYSTEMSCOMPLIANCE ASSURED, WHEREVER YOU ARE.
SeaCURE systems
Evoqua’s maritime solution, the SeaCURE ballast water management system (BWMS), enables ship owners and operators to safely comply with the stringent regulations set by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and the US Coast Guard (USCG).
Electrochlorination at the heart of the system
Proven Chloropac® cells are at the heart of the system, generating sodium hypochlorite on demand, using ambient seawater. This method has been used for many years to prevent marine growth in seawater piping and heat transfer systems of land-based, offshore and shipboard installations.
SeaCURE® SYSTEMS, FOR THE LIFETIME OF YOUR VESSEL.
After-sales care and support
We know that compliance doesn’t end with the purchase and installation of a system. That’s why we support our customers with a comprehensive range of services designed for the entire product life cycle, including lifecycle maintenance and after-sales care.
Partner network
To help operators through of the compliance process, we’ve built a global network of partners. This will guarantee our customers assistance with scoping and planning through the use of 3D scanning surveys, and help with installation and commissioning at a series of locations worldwide. Quick response support and maintenance to ensure continuous vessel compliance can be provided for all customers as a standard service.

Introduction 1 The eighteenth meeting of the GESAMP-Ballast Water Working Group (GESAMP-BWWG) was held at IMO Headquarters from 5 to 9 September 2011 and its report is attached to this document as GESAMP-BWWG 18/7. 2 The main purpose of this meeting was to review the proposals for approval of ballast water management systems that make use of Active Substances to treat ballast water prior to discharge into the marine environment. The findings of the Group are contained in annexes 4 to 6 of the attached report. 3 In addition to the evaluations of the proposals for approval, the report of the eighteenth meeting of the GESAMP-BWWG contains a revised and updated version of the Methodology for information gathering and the conduct of work of the GESAMP-Ballast Water Working Group. As requested, the modifications to the 2008 version of the Methodology are presented in track changes mode. After review and endorsement by

KEY ADVANTAGES
FILTRATION: AN IMPORTANT STAGE IN BALLAST WATER MANAGEMENTRemoving zooplankton (particularly hard shelled organisms) by chemical means can require very high doses or long exposure times. High concentrations of biocide can encourage corrosion. To eliminate this risk, the SeaCURE BWMS employs a filtration system.
Filtration at 40 microns ensures larger organisms and sediment are effectively removed during ballasting.
A fully automated self-cleaning filter provides reliable non-stop operation at high sediment loads reducing associated tank cleaning cost and allowing for the effective treatment of smaller organisms at lower biocide levels.
Surfaces in contact with seawater are often prone to biofouling. The accumulation of marine organisms on filter screens may lead to complete filter clogging and the associated system downtime. To eliminate the risk of biological growth on the filter screens, SeaCURE BWMS employs a proprietary filter protection system where a continuous low dose of Sodium Hypochlorite is injected at the filter inlet when the BWMS is in use.
Our patented filter biofouling prevention method was proven to keep filters clear of macro and micro fouling even after 4 years of use in some of the harshest port environments.

THE SeaCURE® SYSTEM IS BASED ON THREE PILLARS:
Filtration
Electrochlorination
Demand-monitor control logic
THE PROCESS1. Uptake of ballast water
2. Filtration stage removes larger particles >40 microns
3. Automatic backwashing unit cleans the filter triggered by differential pressure without interrupting the filtration process
4. Small side stream taken from the main flow for electrolysis (when main ballast flow is fresh water, stored seawater can be used for the electrolyzer)
5. Side stream seawater is processed in electrolyzer (5a) to produce Sodium Hypochlorite. Power is provided by the Transformer/Rectifier (TR) unit (5b)
6. Tank allows any hydrogen produced to be safely separated and dispersed, the sodium hypochlorite biocide is briefly stored prior to reinjection into the ballast flow
7. The dosing module regulates the injection of sodium hypochlorite and adjusts to varying conditions in the ballast water main
8. The chlorinated water then goes to the ballast tanks as specified
9. Upon deballasting the ORP of the water is analysed in order to initiate neutralisation as necessary
10. Treated ballast water is discharged safely

SeaCURE® SYSTEM ENHANCES OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY AND RETURN ON INVESTMENT
Proprietary control logic
Proprietary control logic of the SeaCURE system monitors the appropriate hypochlorite dose level necessary to provide the required efficacy, while avoiding any detrimental effects on the ship, its crew or the environment. The biocide dosing level is variable, dependent on ballast water conditions — physical, chemical, and biological characteristics, called chlorine demand.
Sidestream and dual purposes
The side stream approach to electrochlorination, requires less than 1% of the main ballast flow for the electrochlorination process. This gives some considerable advantages in terms of power consumption, ease of installation and the ability to function in a wide variety of operating parameters. This feature is very useful for retrofits where space is limited. Due to the sidestream system it is possible to use the SeaCURE BWMS as a marine growth prevention system in voyage.
Intake treatment
The SeaCURE system treats ballast water only during ballasting, allowing the system to be sized for ballast water flows (e.g. for one pump), while deballasting can be done with higher flow rates (several pumps). By utilising this method the SeaCURE system provides reductions in associated power consumption and costs. This is especially suitable for container and bulk carrier ships that use only one pump on intake and two pumps on discharge.

FLEXIBLE SOLUTION TO SUIT YOUR VESSELWeight and size are of paramount important when considering a ballast water management system.
Evoqua recognizes this and can offer the SeaCURE BWMS in two options; modular and compact. The modular version allows for the differing units to be fitted into spaces available on the vessel after a 3D scan and engineering check.
The compact version allows for the unit to be delivered in a skid mounted option with minimal dimensions for an electrochlorination system. This can then simply be inserted on a vessel and the system easily plumbed into the ballast lines. All modules, except the transformer rectifier are in one skid.
COMPACT DESIGN Compact sized for when
space is at a premium
Can be assembled pre-installation to save time
Quicker on site installation (single lift)
Standardised range for quicker logistics and simpler spares handling

After-sales support – for the lifetime of your vessel.
It’s crucial for businesses working in the marine industry to ensure that products are fully supported by servicing expertise. No ship owner wants to see their vessel delayed or off hire because of technical or compliance issues with any product, including BWMS.
We recognised early in SeaCURE BWMS development that the purchase of a BWMS system stretches far beyond the cost of the technology alone for the ship owner or operator. Our customers require, and rightly expect, immediate responses to any system issues that may arise, wherever they are in the world. They expect to be supported by a fully comprehensive after-sales service.
