Renovated Community Room: The Valentine Meehan Community Room has been completely renovated with new ceiling tiles, walls, molding, chair and tables. Most of the funding was provided by Senator John Brooks through a generous $25,000 grant he secured for the Seaford Library and community! Thank you Senator Brooks! Frank McKenna, Director In award-winning author and historian Kerriann Flanagan Broskys latest book Historic Haunts of Long Island; Ghosts and Legends from the Gold Coast to Montauk Point, Ms. Brosky will discuss fascinating new places she has researched and investigated. Joining her is medium and paranormal investigator Joe Giaquinto who will captivate the audience by playing EVPs (electronic voice phenomenon) from their investigations together. Join them as they uncover Long Islands history and ghost tales. Book signing to follow. Registration begins Friday, October 4 th at the Reference Desk. Prudence Wright Holmes has appeared in many films including Sister Act I & II, Boardwalk Empire and Orange is the New Black.     FROM THE DIRECTOR’S DESK Update on the Window and Door Project: The Window and Door replacement r enovation project is moving apace and it is anticipated to be completed by mid-October, if not earlier. Renovated Community Room: The Valentine Meehan Community Room has been completely renovated with new ceiling tiles, walls, molding, chair and tables.     Little Italy-Lemon Almond Ricotta Biscuits THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10th, 1:00-3:00pm Cost: $5.00 In this hands-on class, everyone will bring home 10-12 delicious Lemon Almond Ricotta Biscuits, ready to bake and enjoy at your Italian feast - but first, enjoy a delicious artichoke Bruschetta prepared by Chef Rob Scott.     SUPERMARKET BINGO BLITZ SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19th 1:00-3:00pm COST: $8 PER PERSON (payable at registration) Join the Friends of the Seaford Library for some bingo fun! All participants will receive a door prize, 2 bingo cards and a raffle ticket for a chance to win an Italian basket donated by Piccolo’s Italian Restaurant. Prizes

    for winning bingo include an overstuffed grocery bag of non-perishable items. Additional bingo cards and raffles can be purchased at a cost. All proceeds will go towards library programming and future events. Coffee and

    cake will be served. Registration begins Thursday, October 3rd at the Reference Desk.

    Book Discussion

    Escape the ordinary by having a mystery date…with a book, that is. Choose from among the books wrapped in brown paper located on the cart by the Reference Desk.

    You will not know the identity of your mystery date until you get it home. It may be fiction, non-fiction,

    funny, informative, a mystery, or heartbreaking. Give your date a chance. You may end up having a great

    time with something you would otherwise never ventured to read. After reading the book, fill out Rate-

    Your-Date questionnaire and enter your chance to win a “Mystery Prize.” One winner will be awarded.

    MONDAY, OCTOBER 7th, 1:00-2:30pm Join Devorah and Barbara for a thrilling tour through PowerPoint of some of the unknown Underground Railroad sites of New York City. Patrons will learn what made people of New York-many unknown until now-courageously risk their own lives to save fellow human beings who were trying to escape enslavement led by the great Harriet Tubman.     The Conspiracy to Assassinate President Lincoln

    MONDAY, OCTOBER 21st, 1:00-3:00pm Join H&H Scholars Howard Ehrlich and Harvey Sackowitz as they bring you behind the scenes on how the conspirators created their intimate plan to not only assassinate the President but also to bring down the executive branch of our government. Most people do not know that the assassination of our martyred president was planned as part of a complex conspiracy spearheaded by the famous actor John Wilkes Booth. Finally, Howard and Harvey will reveal what happened to each of the conspirators as they are hunted down and brought to justice.     Nassau County Through Time Presented by local Author: Richard Panchyk MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4th, 7:00-9:00pm

    Join local author Richard Panchyk as he discusses his new book, Nassau County Through Time, which highlights how much Nassau has changed in some places and remained the same in others, over the years. Registration begins Monday, October 7th at the Reference Desk.

    Alexander Hamilton, portrayed by Scott MacScott, will talk about his life and the lives of those around him in order to convey a sense of the spirit of the American people during the promising years for our country. Register now at the Reference Desk.

    “Small Great Things” by Jodi Picoult WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 30th, 3:00pm

    Join librarian Eric Wasserman for a lively discussion from New York Times best-selling author Jodi Picoult. Small Great Things tells

    the story of an African American labor and delivery nurse and the racism surrounding her care of a white supremacist couple's newborn son. Registration begins Wednesday, October 2nd at the Reference Desk. Copies of the book will be available when you register.

    This exercise class uses gentle movements from the comfort of a chair to help increase strength and mobility for those who have difficulty with floor exercise. Instructor: Barbara Siems. Registration begins Monday, October 7th at the Reference Desk.

    WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 13th

    $5.00 per person Teens will enjoy working with fabric paints and stencils

    as they create a one of a kind hand printed table

    runner. This runner will add a beautiful and sensitive

    touch to any holiday table. Registration begins Monday,

    THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 7th

    4:30-5:30pm First responders risk their lives for others every day.

    It’s time to say thank you. In this workshop through a

    variety of methods, teens will make a one of a kind

    item to donate as a special thank you to the Seaford

    Fire Station. One hour of community service will be

    given. Registration begins Monday, October 7th.

    Seaford T.A.G. Meeting

    FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1st

    4:00-5:00pm Join the Teen Advisory Group and help think up new

    ideas to promote certain aspects of what makes the

    library so great. One hour of community service will be

    chocolate bark and also learn something! No expertise

    Give Back by volunteering your time with helping

    make cards of encouragement for the children of St.

    Jude Children’s Hospital. All you need is a few kind

    words, a little imagination and a big heart. One hour of

    Spooky Science

    Join Chris Buchman where kids will learn some science

    using spooky slime, glow in the dark slime, and have

    4:30-5:30pm Send a message of thanks on a donut. We will make the

    glaze and flavor it with assorted extracts and decorate 4

    Join A Time for Kids for a program where children will be

    introduced to concepts and terms of a STEM/ STEAM (science,

    technology, engineering, art, mathematics) based curriculum.

    Activities include music, movement, fine and gross motor

    VIKING INVASION

    Explore the lives of feisty, early whalers and how the Vikings

    discovered North America! Design a helmet and other Viking

    If you love Schulz, Snoopy, the Peanuts gang and/or Halloween you

    CHILDREN’S BOOK CLUB

    Join us for the sixth meeting of our new book club. This month, we

    will be discussing The Fourteenth Goldfish, New York Times

    bestseller by Jennifer L. Holm. Pizza will be served. Copies of the

  • Grand Central Station Tour, Holiday Shopping & Lunch at Buca di Beppo Restaurant WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 4th Bus leaves at 8am

    Cost: $102 per person (includes tour, lunch and driver gratuity)

    Enjoy a guided tour of Grand Central Station and learn about the engineering and architecture of this beautiful national landmark. Then shop at the Grand Central Holiday Fair in historic Vanderbilt Hall. Afterwards, we will have a family style lunch at Buca di Beppo Italian Restaurant nearby. Shopping continues at the European inspired Holiday Market at Bryant Park’s Winter Village. This is a shared trip with the Wantagh Public Library. Space is limited. First come, first served. Numbers will be given to each person on line beginning at 8:30am. Each person on line may register for one other person. Payable by check only to the Seaford Public Library. Clavin, the Town of Hempstead Receiver of Taxes, will be on hand to discuss how to decipher your tax bill, how to challenge your assessment, property exemptions (for seniors, veterans, etc.), and other pertinent issues.
