Principal’s Ponderings

COVID-19

It has been tremendous to see the school return to ‘normal’ over the

past fortnight with happy students engaging with their teachers in a

vibrant teaching and learning program. It is hard to believe that two

months ago the outlook was much bleaker. Thank you to parents/

carers for supporting the school through this challenging time.

Just a reminder that parents in R-2 are encouraged to drop their child

off at the gate, but if you do come in it is not ok to linger and chat.

Social distancing needs to be maintained at all times.

SCHOOL NEWSLETTER

As of next term, in line with the school continually moving towards

digital communication (eg QKR, MGM, Skoolbag and Seesaw), the

school newsletter will no longer be printed and sent home with

students. The school will provide the newsletter through Skoolbag

and also on the website. For those very few families without internet

access, hard copies will be available from the front office.

In addition the school newsletter will now be published in weeks

1,4,7 and 10. Both of these changes are common practice in schools.

GRAND BOULEVARD CROSSINGS/CAR PARKING

With the school now close to full, it is important that all parents

consider safety as the top priority at drop-off and pick-up time. The

following behaviours are expected

The 2 minute drop off/pick up zone is not to be used as a

parking space

The staff/disabled car park is not to be used for general parking

The 25km speed limit and U-Turn signs need to be respected

No parking in the restricted areas

Together, we all have a significant and serious responsibility to

ensure the safety of our community, please play your part.

STUDENT REPORTS/THREE WAY CONFERENCES (PARENT/TEACHER/STUDENTS)

As was the case in 2018/19, the mid-year student report will be sent home in week 9 which will provide the

opportunity for parents/carers to discuss it with their child before attending the Three Way Conferences the

following week.

It is important that all families sign up for the conference as it provides a rich opportunity for all three

parties to know what progress the student has made and where opportunities for further growth are. Last

year 72% of families participated—hopefully many more in 2020.

Please note that online bookings will open on Wednesday 10th June. More details will be provided in due

course.

STUDENT WELL BEING

Just before the pandemic took over our lives the staff trained in two

different Social Emotional (SEL) programs that we will be delivering here

at Seaford rise.

The Junior Primary classes will work through the Early

Years What’s the Buzz and Bounce Back, will be

taught in the Years 3-7 classes. Both have a positive psychology focus and help

support resilience training across the school.

There is much research into the positive effects of a whole school approach to Social Emotional

Learning, which increases focus on learning and helps students long after they leave primary

school and their future mental health.

If you would like more information or would like to talk about these programs please make a time to

see me.
