WELCOME TO
DEAR SEALS 2012 ATTENDEES,
We are so excited that you can join us for this year’s Southeast Asian Leadership Summit. We
have been praying for you and your families. We know that many of you have had to leave
behind your families, your day to day work, and take a slight pause from your studies. We pray
that this year’s summit will bless you as we have a conversation together as to what it means
for us as Southeast Asian Americans, and those who have a heart for SE Asian Americans, to
“Arise & Shine.” This year’s theme came out of the needs and thoughts of many who attended
our 2010 summit in the Bay Area. This year’s verse comes from Isaiah 60:1 NIV “Arise, shine, for
your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.”
On a personal note; if you need anything from either me or the committee please don’t hesitate
to ask. You may need to just sit down and talk, get prayed for, or just to be encourage. Please
don’t hesitate to ask. We are here to love you, serve you and pray, God’s blessings over you.
Let us arise & shine together,
KEN SEM KONG
Director of The Southeast Asian Catalyst

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE PASTTHREE SUMMITS
SEALS 2006Camaraderie and a sense of hope were given to SE Asian leaders. For the first
time, they felt like they were not alone. Honor and respect was also shown to
the first generation leaders as we recognized and appreciated them.
SEALS 2008Reconciliation occurred when a first generation leader was “knocked in the
head” by God and made a public apology for the first generation’s lack of
support towards the efforts of the second generation. This brought much
needed healing and freedom.
SEALS 2010Attendees were left in awe as God imprinted something special on every single
person’s heart. They were impacted by: women’s time, the showing of the 1040
documentary and being able to worship God through SE Asian song and dance.

OUR STORY
Our story began at the National Asian
American Leadership Conference in Los
Angeles, CA in March of ’04. Southeast Asian
Leaders from all over the United States were
part of this conference.
After the AALC conference in LA, some
of the Leaders gathered together at a
Starbucks in Long Beach and began to
dream about a ministry for Southeast Asian
Leaders. They saw what God was doing
among Asian Americans and felt that that
same movement needed to take place
among Southeast Asians.
January, MLK weekend of ‘05, 13 leaders
gathered together in Philadelphia for a
weekend of intensive meeting and praying.
Out of that meeting God spoke to us about
a ministry for Southeast Asian and the
Southeast Asian Conference.
January 13th –15th, we hosted our first
SEALS, Southeast Asian Leadership Summit,
conference in Long Beach, CA. God brought
together 165 leaders from all over the United
States from various denominations,
para-church ministries and etc..
VISION
“Encourage,Develop, Mobilize Southeast Asian Americans withinChristian Ministries.”
STATEMENT OF FAITH
We, members of the Southeast Asian
Catalyst (SEAC), from various parts of the
United States and of different Southeast
Asian backgrounds, praise God for His great
salvation and rejoice in the fellowship He has
given us with Himself and with each other.
We are deeply stirred by what God is doing
in our generation and have been united in our
desire and passion to see persons within the
Southeast Asian community saved, raised
and sent out into God’s great harvest field.
We are aligned in our efforts to encourage,
engage and equip persons within the
Southeast Asian Christian community for
God’s greater purposes.

WORKSHOP: YOUR IDENTITY IN A RACIALIZED SOCIETY:
THE POWER OF THE GOSPEL
Ministry and life is best done at the intersection of the text (Scripture) and context (21st Century,
U.S., our city, etc)? Part of our context is the reality of race. What does it mean to be Asian-
American/Southeast Asian today? Explore the power of race and how it affects our belief in the
Gospel work.

WORKSHOP: RELEASING THE NATURAL GIFTS OF WOMEN
Women often believe they have to become more like men to be taken seriously by the church;
However, God has shaped and equipped women uniquely to be partners in Kingdom work. The
discipleship of women entails affirming, nurturing, and deploying their God-given gifts that the
body of Christ desperately needs. But how can we do that within acceptable social and cultural
boundaries? Should we affirm the boundaries? Should we revolt against them? Or what? Let’s
grapple over these issues together.

WORKSHOP: EVANGELISM: CONTEXTUAL AND HOLISTIC APPROACHES
Living out the value of the new birth requires disciples who understand the missional call of the
church so that new births keep occurring! This workshop examines important aspects of biblical
evangelism, that is, evangelism that attempts to be faithful to the biblical version of the kingdom
of God. We will examine its holistic nature, understanding proclamation as it relates inseparably
to compassion, mercy and justice. And we will examine the contextual nature of evangelism,
examining ways that the church can increase in multicultural competency for more effective
communication of the gospel.

WORKSHOP: A RELATIONAL GOD AND PERSONS IN COMMUNION
Being made in the image of a triune God, we were designed with a longing and ability to connect
with others. Through relationship we learn of our Creator, ourselves, and others. Therefore,
knowing how to do healthy relationship is indispensible for growth and effective ministry. In this
workshop, we will explore a theological perspective of relationship, ways of knowing self and
other, and practical spirituality in the everyday life of missional living.

DR. PETER LIM
WORKSHOP: GROWING CHURCHES THAT MAKE DISCIPLES
We don’t have a church problem. We have a discipleship problem. Jesus gave us the only
mandate - make disciples. He also modeled how it is done. That’s the legacy of His earthly
ministry. And a band of disciples Jesus left behind turned the entire Roman Empire upside
down. That’s what we need to rediscover and reclaim in our churches, for the sake of the Gospel,
the church’s mission and future generations. This workshop will seek to stimulate your thoughts
on these questions:
1 > What does a disciple of Jesus Christ look like?
2 > How does a disciple of Jesus Christ make a difference in the world?
3 > How do we create a disciple-making culture in our churches?

REV. ANDREW LEE
WORKSHOP: SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO
Many Asian young adults face the dilemma of choosing to either stay in the immigrant church
where they may have come to Christ, or leaving for a pan-Asian or multiethnic church. Why
do so many leave in an exodus that is no longer silent? Are there valid reasons to stay? This
workshop will examine the reasons young adults give for staying or for leaving.

WORKSHOP: NATURAL NETWORK EVANGELISM
How can you be an effective, fruitful witness bearing much fruit? How can you reach out to
your extended family? How can you reach out to your pre-believing friends? How can you be a
good witness at work? This workshop will explore ways you can be a positive, organic witness
in natural, yet SPIRIT-loaded ways. The Good News always should be the Good News. Yet it
becomes the “Bad News” if we are uncomfortable, say stupid things, or have a superior attitude
personally or culturally. We want to equip you with wisdom and sensitivity, plus with a few
methods. Jennifer will be sharing one method: how “storytelling” has helped her evangelize her
family both here in the U.S. and in Cambodia where she served the LORD last summer.
• Currently serves as the
Youth Leader of her church.
• Received specialized training and practice
in “Storytelling” as a natural witnessing tool.

WORKSHOP: BECOMING A LEADER GOD’S PEOPLE CHASE AFTER
What has the potential to increase the harvest of souls, solve many of the deficiencies in the
church and potentially spark renewal and revival among God’s people? The answer is, “By
creating more leaders.” But not just any leader, but those that reflect the heart and character
of God so that the power of God may rest on them. Only then will your ministry rest on God’s
power rather than on man’s wisdom. This workshop will help you become that kind of leader.
