HOW TO FIND RECRUITER JOBS ON TWITTER

Okay, whether you are an expert Tweeter or a novice, by now you should get that

Twitter is a whole bunch of conversations happening at the same time and in real-time.

People are talking about everything and I do mean everything; what they had for lunch,

celebrity gossip, a bazillion things that you care absolutely nothing about… and jobs.

Now there are quite a few job boards out there that are powered by Twitter! No doubt,

you have posted some of those jobs in your role as a recruiter. However, as a recruiter

who may be open to new opportunities (wink-wink), do you know how to search twitter

for your next recruiter job?

Well, since you have downloaded this eBook, my assumption going forward is that you do not know how to search Twitter well enough to find the recruiting job you are looking for or, you had not considered Twitter in your job search and are curious as to

Jim Stroud Senior director Randstad Sourceright

what I could say about it. Another possibility is that you are going to consider the search strategies I am sharing herein and will be leveraging these tactics in the future to find passive candidates. Whichever category you’re in dear reader, please do, read on!

Job Boards Cost Money. Asking for Referrals is Free. As you know, job boards cost money. However, asking for a referral on Twitter is free.

Consider the following examples:

Page 3: Search Strings for Recruiters Looking for Work

In the examples shared on the previous page, none were from recruiters looking to hire candidates. They were from business owners and/or employees who work at a certain company. That being said, why not reach out to them and say, “Hey, I notice you are looking to recruit X. I can help you with that.” To find more tweets like the ones I shared, try the following search strings on Twitter:

“my company” “looking for” I need to hire Looking to hire Send me your resume My company needs

DM me your resume “several positions available” “We’re hiring” “Looking to join”

Okay, so at this point you have some leads to people who could use your services. What

now? Well, you could: 1) tweet them from your Twitter and ask to be of service, 2) send

them a direct message availing them of your services, 3) look at their Twitter profile for

a link to their website. Hopefully, there is a link on their profile which will connect you

to them. Another option is to use a third party app to research other social networks

Page 4: Search Strings for Recruiters Looking for Work

they are a member of (i.e. LinkedIn) and reach out to them there. One app that I use

for that very thing is a Google chrome extension called “Riffle.”

In the screenshot above, I was curious as to whom Miriam Altman was. Since I already

have Riffle installed on my browser, I simply click the Riffle icon (see the blue arrow?)

which opens up a side window. At the top of the Riffle profile are icons linking to Klout

and LinkedIn (as indicated by the green arrow). Riffle also lets me know what hashtags

she uses the most. Great! Now if I strike up a conversation with her, I can casually

mention things I know she likes to talk about. (wink) I check her LinkedIn profile and I

see that she is the co-founder of “Kinvolved.” Hmm… Maybe I can look at her company

website and see how many jobs are posted there? How long have they been in busi-

ness? Do they appear to be an enterprise that could afford my services? And so on. I

think you get the picture.

Hmm… Using my psychic powers, I am picking up a question from one of the readers of this eBook.

“Jim, great info so far,” you say. “Jeepers! Thank you,” I reply. “Does boolean work on Twitter?” you ask, “And did you just say jeepers?”

Page 5: Search Strings for Recruiters Looking for Work

“Yes and yes,” I reply. “Let me demonstrate the former as you mull over the

latter.”

Boolean is your friend on Twitter

"I need to hire" near:"New York, USA" within:15mi

Check out the red arrow. Its showing you the location of the person who tweeted the

tweet. As you may have guessed from my search string, I am asking Twitter to find real

-time conversations of people who said “I need to hire” within 15 miles of New York.

This is useful if you want to find recruiter jobs in a specific area. Make sense? (Of

course, change the mileage limit if you want to expand or limit your target area.)

More search strings to consider:

“now hiring” filter:links #recruiter I am looking for tweets with the phrase “now hiring” cited, the hashtag #recruiter

attached and have a link to a website in them as well. This search typically leads

directly to jobs posted online. As an example, check out the tweet below.

"my company" hiring OR interviewing near:"Atlanta, GA" within:15mi

In the search above I am looking for a tweet that has the phrase “my company” in it

and either “hiring” or “interviewing” cited therein as well. The person sending the tweet

is within 15 miles of Atlanta, GA. A sample of what you can find with this search is

below.

So, what do you think so far? Tweet me and let me know what you think?

@jimstroud

Page 7: Search Strings for Recruiters Looking for Work

(“tweet me” OR “dm me”) #recruiter (#london OR london OR "UK" OR "co.uk") In the string above, I am looking for tweets where people are asking to be contacted

publicly and privately and who have cited the hashtag #recruiter as well. I am focused

on the London area as well so I included location keywords and hastags to reflect that

as well. Among my results is the tweet I cite on the next page.

Typically, people use hashtags to track a certain topic. Yet, there are those who use

them indiscriminately in hopes of garnering the attention of others who may be

tracking a certain hashtag. Searching hashtags based on a job title and a location can

bring back some interesting results. Can you guess what I searched on to find the

following?

Page 8: Search Strings for Recruiters Looking for Work

Some more searches to consider:

#recruiter #sourcer at #jobs looking for #senior #recruiter in #recruiter wanted for in #contract #recruiter #job (#seeking OR seeking) (#recruiter OR recruiting) at #jobs #ATL #job #recruiter #ATL #hiring #recruiter #SFO #hiring #recruiter #hiring #recruiter (#wanted OR #job) #staffing #sourcer #job #virtual

With all of this job searching going on, I would be remiss if I did not give a shout-out to

my beloved employers Randstad Sourceright and mention that we are hiring

recruiters and sourcers.

Hey, I just thought about this. Did you know that you could save your searches on

Twitter? It is a great time saver and productivity function. All you have to do is search

Twitter as per usual. Hmm… Let’s say that you have an interest in the Sourcing

To access your saved searches, just click in the search box and ... voila! My saved search is there. Pretty cool huh? Okay, I need to get out more.

How To Find Recruiter Jobs on Google Did you know that there are more than 100,000 job boards out there? This means that there are jobs being posted online on job boards you are unaware of. Fortunately for you, Google indexes a lot (if not all) of them. Yet, how does one search all of those job boards? Well, I might have the answer. Much of the data on many job boards is indexed via Google. As such, searching Google will get you access to job information you would ordinarily overlook. Don’t believe me? Google “jobs” and look at the domains. In addition to the usual suspects (like Monster, CareerBuilder, SimplyHired and Indeed) you will no doubt discover websites you have never heard of before. Below is a list of search strings that will help you uncover lots of hidden gems to assist with your search. In some cases the jobs might be outdated but, that is a good thing. Why? Maybe a new opportunity is about to open up and they have yet to post it. Who knows? If not that, maybe you have a new networking opportunity? Give it a try. Happy Hunting!

How many job boards are there online?* I bet it’s a lot. Let me Google that to find out for sure.* “Job Nation” by

Peter Weddle cites 100,000 job boards online.
