CLOSURE OF EQUALS YOUTH CENTRE !
The Gloucestershire County Council has announced the likely
closure of almost all of the youth centres
throughout the County and this would
include the Equals Youth Centre in
Quedgeley. The Parish Council was
dismayed to hear of this news as the
centre plays a valuable rôle in providing
somewhere for young people in the parish
to meet and to keep them off the streets. Anna Mozol, Chair
of the Parish Council says “If the County Council is unable to
provide this service then the Parish Council owns the building
and will be doing everything it can to keep the centre open”.
We will be meeting with other local organisations to try to
secure the required finance and management of the youth club.
It may be necessary to ask our residents to pay a little more
on their precept to the Parish Council to keep the centre going.
If you do not agree with this then it is important that you
contact the Parish Office and let us know as soon as possible.

ACCOUNTS
FOR
2009—2010
AUDIT OF ACCOUNTS 2009/10
Your Council is required to have its
accounts audited every year by an
independent internal auditor and an
external auditor appointed by the Audit
Commission. The audit for last year’s
accounts was completed on the 16th of
September this has been advertised on our
parish notice boards and on our web site.
Once again the auditors had no adverse
comments to make concerning the finances
that were all found to be in order.
BUDGET FOR 2010/11
The Council is preparing its budget for the next year and has not increased its cost
to local residents for two years now. Every effort is being made by your Parish
Councillors to try to reduce the amount you pay for the services we provide.
2011 Census: help tomorrow take shape
Your 2011 census questionnaire will arrive in March. It’s vital that you
complete your confidential census questionnaire as the statistics are used
to make decisions about our community. Our area receives funding from
government, based on the number of people living here, funding that can be used
for schools, hospitals, transport and refuse collection. Everyday facilities like play
parks, water pipes and even where your local supermarket branch is located, are
based on census statistics. It’s all confidential, so no one will see your personal
information.
By completing the census questionnaire you will not only be helping to bring money
into your community, but also providing a range of national and local bodies with
vital information to inform decisions affecting how you live
Find out more about the census by going to the Quedgeley Parish Council website
and clicking on the Census links.
FIREWORK DISPLAY This is the third year we
have organised a firework
display for the people of
Quedgeley and it proved
even more successful than
last year. It turned out to
be a dry evening and with
very little wind that really
helped in making it a
spectacular event. The cost
was very reasonable,
especially for families with
several young children and
over one thousand five hundred came to watch. Graham Smith, Vice Chairman
of the Parish Council said “Lots of people leaving Dimore II said how much they
had enjoyed the fireworks and looked forward to coming again next year”. It
was especially pleasing that people have taken the time to call at the Parish
Office to say what an excellent display it was. One couple who had watched the
display from their house even left a donation towards the cost. To those who
were disturbed by the display, our apologies, but we do try to keep it to a
minimum and unfortunately there is nowhere else in Quedgeley suitable to hold
it. We would appreciate some feedback and would like to know “Did you attend
the display?”, “What did you think of it?”, “Do you want it to continue?”, “Do
you prefer it being held a week after the 5th?” and “Are you happy that it
continues at Dimore II?” Please reply to the Parish Office, your views are
important to us!

NEW COUNCILLORS We are
pleased to welcome back Sarah James
as a Parish Councillor. Earlier this year
she resigned as it seemed that her
work was taking her to foreign parts,
unfortunately for her these plans were changed
but we are pleased it does mean that she has
been able to rejoin us. Emily Barrett, who lives
in School Lane has also become a councillor and
we hope that she enjoys her time with us and is
able to help us in making Quedgeley a better
place in which to live. Next year, possibly in
May, all of your parish councillors will be re-
elected and all eligible residents are able to
stand for election. Like Emily and Sarah if you
want to play a part in the future of Quedgeley
then why not consider putting yourself forward
for election? Your Parish Council needs you!!
