Seaward Estate | 3

I got to wake up really early this morning and watch the sun rise over our estate. I find that these really early mornings - few and far between for me - get my brain going and I get to ponder on all sorts of weird and wonderful things.

This morning I realized we've been residents of Seaward Estate for 11 years. I don't know about you, but I've never stayed anywhere for 11 years so it must mean there is something very special about our estate and the people here. Which lead to my next thought....why don't we hear from more of you? I am sure there are amazing stories of families, accomplishments and achievement and much more in every home on the estate. I really think we need to hear more about them and celebrate both our estate and the wonderful people who live here.

So, I put the challenge to you. Email us and share your story or your neighbour’s story (if they are too shy). Let's fill the pages of this mag with great stories about our estate and our piece of paradise on the North Coast.

Till our next edition

God bless

from the estate manager's deskJoe’s soapbox

By this time you would have received notice of the Special General Meeting to be held on the 25th November, 2015. This meeting

will deal solely with the resolutions that have been tabled. Motivated resolutions along with ballot sheets will be sent out to all members with the agenda well in advance, giving all an opportunity to vote on the resolutions, whether they can attend the meeting or not. It is obviously important that, as an owner, you exercise your right to vote. Every vote received will count towards the quorum, whether you are present or not. We are sure there will be a number of important issues to be considered - your vote counts and could make the difference.

We have recently had some decent rain; once again most of it unfortunately did not fall within the Hazelmere catchment. The dam recorded a 0.5% increase, which had little to no effect on our water problems. We have been informed that a new water tariff will be out shortly, and that water usage over certain limits will adversely affect your bank balance. One unsubstantiated rumour is that usage above 10 kilolitres will cost you R200.00 per kilolitre. Looking at the water readings, the majority of our residents are trying to save but there are quite a few who have not changed their habits.

My advice is: start saving water or look forward to a lean festive season.

The right to a view has again arisen. The quoted legal cases have clearly indicated that there is NO right to a view, so please do not go to extremes like cutting down trees because you can no longer see that little ‘V’ of sea.

Please plan ahead if you are doing any construction or alterations. As is traditional, the estate is closed to contractors from the 16th December, 2015 for a month. Make sure your contractors are finished before this date and have cleaned up; we will be checking to ensure everyone has the festive season they deserve.

Please also remember that we have joined the rest of Ballito in the NO GO to fireworks - this includes that mad celebration for the people who tried to blow up the British parliament all those years ago. Please do not use fireworks.

I am going to cut this one short as the editor is screaming at me that I am holding up the mag from getting to the printer.

Cheers

Joe

This month’s topic is one we should not have to be asking about, but due to our current water predicament (the lack thereof) we have to ask everyone who owns a pool, for their assistance for this one.

When you back wash your pool, please could you divert this water into our sewer system? This would allow us to flush our sewer system at the same time. With everybody conserving water and reducing their consumption, we are finding that with less water running through the sewers they tend to get blocked more easily.

This is also exacerbated by some people still flushing disposable nappies, cloths and other

non-dissolvable items, to name but a few, down our sewer system.

So by our pool owners back washing into our sewer system, we can then flush any potential obstacles out.

Should you notice a sewer smell or a leak, please notify the office \ security so we can address immediately. It is also easier to locate a blockage if we are notified while the foul odour is floating in the vicinity.

Remember, always be proactive and one step ahead.

Regards

From the

manager's deskoperations & security

DaveTip Please note that if you happen to have ANY type of EMERGENCY to notify the gate “Security” as our procedure for emergency vehicles entering our Estate is…..

“Once we have been notified of an emergency to ANY address by the resident, security will facilitate access at the gate as well as have the supervisor available at the relevant gate to escort the emergency vehicle directly to the correct address thus not only cutting down the response time but also ensuring that they arrive at the correct address.”

ReminderTo register your domestic and gardener with the M4 gate no

matter how short their visit is going to be? As well as

deregister them when they leave your employ or you terminate

their services.

Your car is your ultimate accessory. And who wouldn’t want to drive something that turns heads and torsos? Check these exquisite automobiles out – the best part is, they’re all available right here in Ballito.

Star of the Show The Jaguar F-Type is no stranger to attention; it’s quite the darling, it seems. American superstar Lana Del Ray is the face of this beautiful car. It was launched with a short film, called Desire, at the Sundance Film Festival.

Drop ItThe very sexy Ferrari F430 Spider is truly swoon worthy. It takes a mere 25 seconds to drop the ragtop to let the

sunshine in…how’s that for an Instagram moment?

Hot, hot, hotOne of the extras on the lusty BMW M4 is a heated steering wheel. Oh, yes. Those cold winter mornings…

DIYThe Range Rover Evoque is not just a pretty car, it

seems. The sexy SUV is rather smart – it parks itself! All the driver has to do is work the brake and accelerator.

sort of hollow ‘brap’ that was the trademark of the old five-pot ST

Ultimate Luxury When you think chauffeur driving, you think Bentley. The Bentley Azure is a complete dreamboat – it measures 5347mm…of buttery leather and cool speed.

Light as a FeatherOften referred to as an ‘affordable’ exotic sports car, the

Audi R8 Spyder is no sissy on the road. It can reach a speed of up to 100kmph from standstill in 3, 6 seconds. Hello!

tHe PeePS | Marius, Kerry and Lilly family

Page 13: Seaward october 2015

Seaward Estate | 13

Marius and Kerry have been married for nine years. Their love story had the most interesting beginning: they met in 2003 at Walt Disney World

in Florida, where they were both working at the time. “We came home and went to Hotel School together, then spent the next few years working on cruise ships and travelling before we finally settled in Durban. We had our beautiful little girl Lilly-Marie, who thinks she is 20 but is actually only four,” Kerry tells us.

The long hours typical to the hospitality industry did not agree with the family lifestyle the Niewoudts wanted, so they decided to move to Ballito, from Mount Edgecombe, in 2013. It was then that they opened a franchise brand of Slimline Pool Centre. “It was an impulsive decision,” Kerry says. “We pulled it together in eight weeks. I was fortunate to have grown up in the swimming pool business as my mum operates three branches of Slimline Pools in Zululand. Ours was the fourth.

The couple enjoys their life with Lilly-Marie, who

goes to Ashton International College. “She has settled really well in Ballito and has a very busy social life of her own. Daniel, who is her best friend, lives just up the hill from us in Seaward. It’s been great to be so close by. We happen to be great friends with his parents, too, which makes for wonderful weekends of wining and dining at each other’s homes!”

Aside from the fabulous weather, Kerry and her family love the sense of community, business opportunities and laid back lifestyle that Ballito offers. As for Seaward Estates, the first thing Kerry mentions is the stunning forest view from her home. “We love sitting on our balcony and observing the bird life in the late afternoon. Our daughter loves the forest walk, which is right next to our home, and we are literally a skip hop and a jump away from our place of work and Lilly’s school. We spent over a year seeking the perfect home for our family in Seaward and finally found one that ticked all our boxes in April this year. We took transfer of our home in June and absolutely love it!”

"We are very passionate about what we do and it has been the best decision we have ever made.”
