Driving to fetch my kids the other evening I realised with sadness that at 5.30pm, car lights were on and the evening was a bit cooler than usual, another season is upon us. It got me thinking: we only have 4 Saturdays on average in a month, 12 Saturdays in a season! We live for every weekend and there are so few, 52 in a year! Currently 14 weekends are gone! How have you spent your time? Your days? I heard in church the other morning that a man at about 41 years of age decided to count his days visually (in other words make everyday count) he bought himself 1544 marbles – those represented the number of Saturdays he had left, if he lived the average lifespan of 70.7 years. Every Saturday he would wake up early while the house was quiet, take a moment to reflect on his week, and then remove a marble. It is such a very visual and real way of making every day count! The Saturday he woke up and took out his last marble, he celebrated for a moment, then ran upstairs woke up his wife, told her he was taking her and the family out to breakfast, adding “oh, and we need to stop at the toy store, I need to buy some marbles.” So, how many marbles do you have left? And are you spending your days focusing on the important things?

Make some breathing room in your life, and take those golden moments, those opportunities. No matter how crazy the days and weeks are, find something to say: “this week was wonderful because...” Follow your passions. Don’t wait , enjoy your family, your home, your estate, Ballito and its lifestyle!

From this edition you will see we have brought in some themes that relate to life in Ballito and we hope these give you a few interesting reads! This edition we focused on food.

The end result was that the current four trustees namely:

Harold AttenboroughHarry BeckxChris PennellKen Webwould remain in office and would co-opt

persons to bolster the number to meet the constitutional requirement, after the first Trustee meeting, which will be held shortly and that the AGM issue of nominations would be adjourned for the time being. We will keep you posted on the deliberations of who will be co-opted once this meeting has taken place.

It was also resolved that a committee would be established to research a re-write of the constitution. It was agreed that that our current constitution was in dire need of change, as this is the foundation of any Association. Having said this the task ahead is a major one and will not be achieved overnight. It will entail deliberation, consultation and a lot of work, it's not an overnight plan and will take a minimum of 12 months to fully achieve. To get this document to work participation of members is essential, it is after all “for the members by the members”. Please assist us in the next year by giving input and actively participate to ensure your investment is protected.

Have a great one,

from the estate managers desk

Wonder how many people are into Chinese astrology – I’m not really one who gets into it but happened to pick up a little gem.

2014 was the year of the horse and the header was “get ready to rumble”, herds of horses tend to split and then vie for leadership. The predications were a year of conflict which would increase in the latter part of the year. As amazing as it sounds there can be little doubt in anyone’s mind that the prediction was spot on.

2015 is the year of the goat; goats are more civil than horses, they tend for unity and avoid conflict. We can all only hope that the predictions for this year are as accurate as last year's as we need to reflect and calm things down.

The 2015 AGM has come but has not gone? A four hour session ended with no final resolution on nominations for Trustees. Although we sent voting forms out, believing that every member should be given an opportunity to vote on Trustee nominations, we received a total of 29 completed ballots, not exactly a forceful mandate. By the time we got to nominations in the meeting we did not have a quorum. As most people had not had time for supper before the meeting and the average concentration span at a meeting has scientifically proven to be to be between one and two hours, many of our members had peeled off and headed home.

as after-hours it goes directly to the M4 gate, they will document your concern and escalate it for the appropriate ACTION.

These leaks invariably always start off small and if addressed at this stage will save the Estate in repair and waste costs. So please do not hesitate to report leaks to the Office / Gates so they can be sorted out timeously. Remember always be proactive and one step ahead.

RemindeRPlease bear in mind: be considerate when you or your

visitors park their cars - we are all aware that parking is

at a premium within our estate.

This month’s topic is NOT new one but one that we need to reiterate. Make a Call?!!!

Whether you are just sitting at home, driving or wandering around the Estate sightseeing, if you should encounter a leak of any sort (Water or Sewerage) please notify the office immediately with the issue and its location. You can report it to either gate on your way out of the Estate. This goes for anything that will cost your Estate money.

These issues can also be reported at any time (24 hours) on the office number 032 946 0685

Dear Residents, Our Portal is 90% complete, and should be going live mid-year 2015. This is incredibly exciting for me! The portal is an online Community Management System (CMS), custom developed to enhance management and communication in our Estate.

It is a central web-based community portal and a body corporate management platform, that I have been working on for a number of months now.As soon as the portal goes live, you will receive an email with your username and password, and you would be able to update your details on-line. Our hope is that Ballito Estates would follow suite, which would make it easy for residents to access their accounts.

I would like to remind owners and residents about the ‘Seaward Estate Ballito’ Facebook page which has been

in existence for some time now www.facebook.com/groups/SeawardEstates

Please feel free to become a member, and advertise goings on in Ballito on your community page. Remember that you can acquire your online copy of the Seaward Press on our website www.seawardestates.co.za/news.asp

The AGM is an important event on the estate calendar as it allows residents (subject to a few conditions set out in the constitution) to come and listen to the feedback from the Chairman of the Trustees and the Estate Manager.

Registration before the event was smooth as the admin team got everyone registered and checked in.

The AGM started on time and the current chairman

The all important annual AGM was held on the 19th March and it was great to see the interest of residents in all matters related to our great estate.

managed proceedings on the night and ran through the agreed agenda on the evening. As Joe mentions in his letter above, the meeting saw many topics being discussed and even debated with the end result being an AGM that was adjourned and not closed. One of the big tasks ahead will be the agreed review and research of the current constitution which needs attention.

This AGM saw owners from Jo'burg travel down to listen in on proceedings and be involved. It really is important for homeowners to be actively invested and interested in what is going on in the estate and if possible, attend the AGM annually to cast a vote - or at least supply a proxy. It is likely that a new round of nominations will be called for when issues related to the first round of the 2015 AGM are resolved. If you'd like to get involved contact the office for details

Just a short 10 minute drive away from Ballito is one of the best

restaurants around (in our humble opinion), it is well worth the drive! We were invited to come experience Jack Salmon Salt Rock, the Durban North Branch is already one of our favourites, and the Salt Rock is no different!

The restaurant is at the Tiffany’s centre, is open, spacious and perfectly decorated, simple, clean uncluttered. The service is another stand out about the restaurant, the staff are friendly and happy, and there is always a manager on duty too, which makes all difference, not just managing the place, but vested in the smooth running of every order placed.

Jack Salmon is famous for their freshness, it really makes all the difference to the experience and the taste. We started with a platter of sushi, which is fresh, tasty, made to order, and always a winner, and with their new 12-7pm half price offer, it is always affordable too, if you have not eaten sushi at Jack Salmon, you are missing out! For Mains we chose the

pirates platter, a 250g fillet steak, 6 prawns and calamari combo, which was just perfect, as Shaun says; “yes we are Seafood, but really? How can you mess up a steak? It makes sense to offer it” Well he was right, the combo was just perfect and hit all the spots, meat, fish, tasty, sorted! I opted for the Prawns Pardelle, which is 10 butterflied queens prawns grilled to perfection and

topped with the chilli Napoli sauce which was probably the best prawn dish I have eaten anywhere!

And for dessert we tried the Crème Brulee, which is our favourite dessert order, it is always a winner, the panna cotta though would also be a definite to try here!

Overall a fabulous experience and as always, we will be back!

Our Motto | friendliness costs nothing. be good to others.

I am Cheryl Krieger, I am a director of my own recruitment agency, Incdreams Recruitment. I come from a recruitment background, originally working in Gauteng. I relocated to Durban in 2002 where Grant was and then joined Mercedes Benz for 10 years. We got married in 2006 and had our daughter, Tiara, in 2009. Three years ago I decided to open up my own personnel agency. Grant is a computer programmer for Mr Price head office.

Page 13: Seaward Press April 2015

Tiara, is five years old and is a real character with a sense of humour. She goes to Ashton International College and enjoys swimming and ballet. I will never forget, one morning when she was having a bit of a moment: I said to her ‘AY’! She replied: ‘Mom, why are you telling me A? A is a letter of the alphabet and it stands for aircon’.

My parents also live in Seaward, and we have an awesome circle of friends in the estate.

We originally bought in San Karena and with our family expanding we needed to move on. However we loved Seaward and we obviously loved the view from our home. Nothing could match what we

had, so we moved out of our house for six months to do all the big alterations. What an achievement! From a single storey three bedroom to a lovely, spacious four bedroom place with a separate flatlet.

We had the most amazing neighbors, Greg and Charmaine, who gave up their holiday home next door to accommodate us while we were building. It is amazing what good hearted people there are still in today’s time.

We chose the North Coast after visiting my parents, who had a holiday home in her in Ballito. When I moved down they let Grant and I stay there until we settled and found our feet. We loved it so much that we have not even thought of moving anywhere else and we absolutely love living in Seaward! The fact that it is central, and that our little one has so many friends in the estate is great. The kids just take a walk and meet up for play dates. Might I add, that sometimes the play dates are arranged at school and then us moms get to know later!

In this edition we are looking at all that is foodie that Ballito has to offer. We have FABULOUS restaurants

on our doorstep like La Piazza, which is a firm favourite for breakfast, (as it is a hop skip and jump away from school and work for us), lunch is fantastic and the perfect place to have a quick business meeting. We just love the vibe at night, always great service, and great food! If you are interested in a night in rather and take aways are an option, then of course, we have quite a few take away spots just up the road. For the more adventurous take a drive into Salt Rock and be spoilt by Jack Salmon (see the review in this edition) or if you want something different pop into Bottles for a Mexican feast, with a relaxed and unpretentious vibe, with good food. And then if you’re looking for the flea market shopping vibe remember the foodie market at the beginning of every month at Lifestyle Centre - it is awesome to get your fresh bits from and interesting cheeses and so much more! If you are into the new healthy, trend setting lifestyle, called

Banting, BizziB will make your new way of eating simply a breeze, from healthy bread and jams, to mayo and sauces, readymade or make your own, and it is really tasty, anyone will love it even if you not Banting. Healthy, fresh, preservative free, just natural goodness, Yes please!! – BizziB is also available at the foodie market, for delivery or at the Tiffany’s Health Shop. Ballito has it all, we are really spoilt for choice food wise!

La PizzaThis restaurant is perfectly located. It's just outside the estate and really offers a great variety catering for everyone. What most people don't realize is that La Piazza is open early in the morning and does great breakfasts. If you haven't visited pop in and give them a try. We think it's worth while.

Mamma G's was, in our mind, the first restaurant that served great food with a family focus. Things like fireplaces and blankets in winter were a great touch and the new (well not so new anymore) owners have kept that magic of Mamma G's alive.

It's a great restaurant that's second only to La Piazza in closeness to the estate. Even if MammaG's was in Westbrook it would be a favourite for many of Ballito's residents.

Not a restaurant, BizziB, sells a range of foods at local markets and stores in Ballito. We love their energy and here is a little about them.A small family run business whose prime motivator behind the business is a passion for what they do - obsessive about taste, quality and customer service.

BizziBanting is their Banting Friendly Range. This range has been designed for their Banting customers and the range is growing week on week. They predominantly use Almond Flour, Coconut Flour, Flax Seed Meal, Xylitol and fresh ingredients….to name but a few. Visit www.bizzi-b.co.za or give them a call 084 853 2618

Ballito Clean Sweep takes the old idiom to heart; the owners even say the company was started ‘by necessity’! Kate and Bev managed properties on the North Coast – a network in excess of 200 properties stretching from Westbrook to Zinkwazi - for a decade. Through this time they routinely battled to find good, reliable, professional cleaning services to clean the properties under their care. Bad experiences with local service providers prompted Bev and Kate to open their own cleaning division.

Ballito Clean Sweep staff members

are never dropped off at your home and left to their own devices! Staff members are vetted, security-checked and trained thoroughly. They are brought to, and fetched from, your home; Bev and Kate personally manage and supervise staff members while they are on your property.

Services offered include: daily domestic cleaning, holiday home entry and exit cleaning, moving in/out cleans, laundry service, carpet and upholstery cleaning.

Transportation and cleaning products are included in quotes.
