The “Second Stage“-ExperienceTo relate to a consciously chosen source of visual impression, which is the movie, one needs to free oneself from the hysterical flood of influences one is exposed in everyday life. The cinema is an artistic institution, a dream-factory that needs to understand it as its responsibility to enhance the experience on the screen in its architecture. How to enable the visitor in the world of the movies and create an atmosphere of exchange and to-getherness was the key-question of this design. Therefore, we developed the architectural apparatus, the “Second Stage”.The extroverted façade-concept showcases the banners of all of the pre-viously shown movies and those, which are yet to be shown: A posted timeline from which one receives the programmatic orientation of the new cinematic hotspot in the Newman Street. A band of headlights dif-ferentiates the uniform volume into two functional units and introduces a lantern-like glow over the queue of future visitors. The grand hall is defined by the racks of costumes and the console of changing-rooms. This is the space that we consider as the floodgate of superficiality. Here the visitor can chose out of a broad collection of cos-

tumes that match the current movie. The concept of “Second Stage” strongly encourages anyone interested in movies to join this social adven-ture to experience cinema in a total different way. 3D on screen is not the answer to a better movie: it’s the people you watch it with. Leaving your coat of routine in the locker, you enter the only screening room. Embraced by fabric curtains, you can choose your seat freely anywhere in the inviting seating-possibilities on the terraced wooden stage. The movie is over, no one waits to read the credits, storms out and leaves his popcorn behind. Is that the Ode filmmakers would want to hear for their peace of work? We think, that the beauty of the motion picture de-serves a room for more intimate and personal contact trough the shared experience of watching the movie. By not completely breaking down the anonymity one enters into the conventional cinema, the costume helps the little more shy individuals to identify themselves with the content and use it as the base for human interaction. Welcome to the “Second Stage”, the place where the end of the movie, is the beginning of the experience. The Last Supper
