Few days back I received and email from Fr. Wayne Campbell, the vocation promotor of the Diocese of Oakland. In it he wrote “I thank you for your work specifically in the promotion of vocations to the priesthood”. As I was reading those lines, I thought to myself: In our time, many are afraid to hear the word "Vocation". Apparently, they do not know what ¨Vocation¨ is about. We all have a vocation in accord with our mission. Our vocation may be to the priesthood or consecrated life, a secular mission or a Christian marriage. Primarily, Vocation is a call to holiness and we live it in the state of married or conse‐crated life. The call invites us to be docile to the promptings of the Holy Spirit as we discern how to live out our vocation as sons and daughters of God. Some men and women God calls to leave their families, with the possibility to create a new one, so that, as consecrated, they can dedicate themselves to serve the community. The vocation is a personal call. We all are called to be happy and we will achieve this if we answer God’s call for each one of us personally. God seeks us, and He will be happy when he finds us responding to his personal initiative of love. It is the divine dimension of our vocation. Vocation is an encounter with God. Vocations, whether it is for married life or conse‐crated life, grows primarily in the family, school, youth groups, the parish and many other areas of ordinary life. We are now witnessing a crisis of vocations to consecrated life and vocations to committed family life, but we can reverse it if we are open to en‐counter God and His divine design in us. This week our seminarian Anh Vu will be sharing with us about his Vocation. As we lis‐ten to him we also want to ask ourselves: Do we pray for vocations? If I feel a personal call from God, Am I generous to give an answer? Is my family environment appropriate so any of my children could hear the voice of God? Let us ask God to grant us the grace to discover our personal vocation and be enthusiastic to follow it with generosity.

Hace algunos días recibí un correo electrónico del Padre Wayne Campbell, promotor de vocaciones de la Diócesis de Oakland. En el correo, él escribió “Te agradezco por tu tra‐bajo, en especial en la promoción de vocaciones al sacerdocio”. Cuando leía esas líneas, yo pensaba: En nuestro tiempo, muchos tienen miedo de escuchar la palabra "Vocación". Aparentemente, no sabemos a qué se refiere. Todos tenemos una vocación de acuerdo con nuestra misión. Nuestra vocación pudiera ser para el sacerdocio o para la vida consagrada, a una misión secular o al matrimonio cristiano. Principalmente, la Vocación es un llamado a la santidad y lo vivimos en la vida en matri‐monio o en la vida consagrada. El llamado nos invita a ser dóciles a las indicaciones del Espíritu Santo mientras discerni‐mos cómo vivir nuestra vocación de hijos e hijas de Dios. Dios llama a algunos hombres y mujeres a dejar sus familias, con la posibilidad de crear una nueva, para que, con una vi‐da consagrada puedan dedicar su vida a servir a la comunidad. La vocación es un llamado personal. Todos hemos sido llamados a ser felices y lo vamos a lograr si respondemos al llamado que Dios nos hace personalmente a cada uno de no‐sotros. Dios nos busca, y debemos de estar felices cuando Él nos encuentra respondien‐do a Su iniciativa personal de amor. Es su dimensión divina de nuestra vocación. La Vocación es un encuentro con Dios. Las vocaciones, ya sean para el matrimonio o pa‐ra la vida religiosa, crece principalmente dentro de la familia, en la escuela, en los grupos juveniles, en la parroquia y en muchas áreas ordinarias de la vida. Ahora estamos enfren‐tando una crisis de vocaciones a la vida religiosa y vocaciones al compromiso a la vida fa‐miliar, pero podemos revertirla si estamos abiertos a encontrarnos con y Su designio di‐vino en nosotros. Esta semana, nuestro Seminarista Anh Vu va a compartir con nosotros algo sobre su vo‐cación. Mientras lo escuchamos a él, preguntémonos nosotros mismos: ¿Oramos por vo‐caciones? Si siento un llamado personal de Dios, ¿Soy generoso para dar una respuesta? ¿Es mi ambiente familiar el apropiado para que uno de mis hijos escuche el llamado a la voz de Dios?
