    AWAITING THE SALVATION OF GOD

The world does not seem big enough to contain the jubila on of the first reading. In the Gospel reading, the Roman empire isnt big enough, either. The great powers of Rome are named and made to stand wai ng for the arrival of Gods salva on. And we find Paul medita ng joyfully on what really ma ers. According to Baruch, the city of Jerusalem is like a person standing on ptoe looking for Gods salva on, which is coming from the east. Those who were led away on foot, heads down, now come back, a proud people. Why, the very is smoothed out. The path is lined with fragrant, lush trees. It cant get any be er than this, can it? Well, yes it can. For a voice call out in the desert. Here is the beginning of the salva on of God. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.

    SAINT ANASTASIA -- PILGRAM SITE

PLENARY INDULGENCE FOR THE YEAR OF FAITH

    October 11, 2012 to November 24, 2013

The day of the fiftieth anniversary of the solemn opening of Vatican Council II, the Supreme Pontiff Benedict XVI has decreed October 11, 2012 to November 24, 2013 especially dedicated to the profession of the true faith and its correct interpretation, through the reading of or better still the pious meditation upon the Acts of the Council and the articles of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. This decree was made public October 5, 2012. Benedict XVI will grant faithful Plenary Indulgence for the occasion of the Year of Faith. The Most Reverend Gerald M. Barbarito, has designated one church in each deanery as a pilgrimage site during the Year of Faith. These parishes where chosen because they are the oldest established parish in each region and thus represent the beginnings of the faith in each area. Saint Anastasia, established in 1910, is the pilgrimage site for the Northern Deanery; Saint Joseph, established in 1916, is the pilgrimage site for the Cathedral Deanery; Saint Ann, established in 1895 is the pilgrimage site for the Central Deanery; and Saint Vincent Ferrer, established in 1941, is the pilgrimage site for the Southern Deanery. There are two additional locations: Cathedral of Saint Ignatius Loyola, as the principle church of the Diocese and Saint Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary Chapel in Boynton Beach. What is the Year of Faith? At certain times in the history of the Church, popes have called upon the faithful to dedicate themselves to deepening their understanding of a particular aspect of the faith. During this Year of Faith, Catholics are asked to reflect on the documents of Vatican II and the Catechism of the Catholic Church so that they may deepen their knowledge of the faith. The Door of Faith (Acts 14:27), is opened at ones baptism, but we are called to open it again, walk through it and discover and renew your relationship with Christ and his Church. What is an Indulgence? An indulgence is obtained through the Church who, by virtue of the power of binding and losing granted her by Christ Jesus, intervenes in favor of individual Christians and opens for them the treasury of the merits of Christ and the saints to obtain from the Father of mercies the remission of the temporal punishments due for their sins. Thus the Church does not want simply to come to the aid of the Christians, but also to spur them to works of devotion, penance, and charity (CCC #1478).

  • Page 9 Second Sunday of Advent December 9, 2012

An indulgence is partial or plenary according as it removes either part or all the temporal punishment due to sins. Indulgences may are applied to the living or the dead (CCC #1471). Obtaining the Indulgence: Since the primary objective is to develop sanctity of life to the highest degree possible on this earth, and thus to attain the most sublime level of pureness of soul, immense benefit may be derived from the great gift of Indulgences which, by virtue of the power conferred upon her by Christ, the Church offers to everyone who, following the due norms, undertakes the special prescripts to obtain them. During the whole span of the Year of Faith, proclaimed from October 11, 2012 to November 24, 2013, all faithful who (1) Truly Penitent, (2) Take Sacramental Confession , (3) received Sacramental Holy Communion, (4) who pray in accordance with the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff and (5) recitation of the Our Father, the Profession of Faith in any legitimate form, invocations to the Blessed Virgin Mary and according to the case, to Holy Apostles or Patrons will be able to acquire a Plenary Indulgence from the temporal punishment for their sins imparted by Gods mercy, applicable in suffrage to the souls of the deceased faithful:

    A. Every me they take part in at least three sermons during a preached Sacred Mission, or at least three lessons on the Acts of Va can Council II and or on the Ar cles of the Catechism of the Catholic Church in any church or any other suitable place, while s ll following the due norms prescribed under Obtaining the Indulgence.

    B. Every me they visit by way of pilgrimage: a Papal Basilica, a Chris an catacomb, a Cathedral; Church, a sacred place designated by the Ordinary of the place for the Year of Faith (i.e. St. Anastasia) and take part there in some sacred func on or at least pause for an apt me of recollec on with pious medita ons, while s ll following the due norms prescribed under Obtaining the Indulgence.

    C. Every me, in days determined by the Ordinary of the place for the Year of Faith (each parish church on their patronal feast day ONLY will become a pilgrimage site), in any sacred place they par cipate in a solemn Eucharis c celebra on or the Liturgy of the Hours, while s ll following the due norms prescribed under Obtaining the Indulgence.

    D. A day freely chosen, during the Year of Faith, for the pious visit of the bap stery or other place, in which they received the sacrament of Bap sm, renewing the bap smal promises in any legi mate formula, while s ll following the due norms prescribed under Obtaining the Indulgence.
