GOSPEL: Matthew 17:1-9 Three of Jesus' closest friends arrive at a new understanding of him in today's gospel. They are allowed to get a glimpse of him as he will be after his passion, death, and resurrection. Je-sus is seen as the fulfillment of the Law (represented by Moses) and the Prophets (represented by Elijah) of the Old Testament. He is Son of God and Messiah, in whom we experience God's presence and in whose image we will be transfigured. We read today's story of the transfiguration so that we, too, might be led to a new understanding of Jesus. He is greater than we could ever have thought, and tells us, "Do not be afraid. Keep your eyes on me." 1.) How are you like Peter in this gospel? Seeing Jesus transfig-ured was so wonderful, he wanted to stay there always. In New Orleans there is a happy slogan, "Let the good times roll!" We want good times to keep going, and never to end. Of course, this will not happen until we get to heaven! Here on earth, we may meet Jesus in the glory of a beautiful liturgy, or a peaceful time of prayer, or in the love of parents, friends, and spouse. 2.) But we also see him, if we have eyes to see him, as we walk down the mountain and back to everyday life. Jesus still leads us. How can you keep your eyes on Jesus in works of justice and mercy, in help for those less fortunate? Who or what can help you seek Jesus here?
EVANGELIO: Mateo 17:1-9 En el evangelio de hoy tres de los amigos de Jesús lograron un nuevo entendimiento de él. Se les permite ver un poco de lo que él sería después de su pasión, muerte y resurrección. Jesús es visto como el cumplimiento de la Ley representada por Moisés y los profetas representados por Elías del Antiguo Tes-tamento. Jesús es el Hijo de Dios, el Mesías, en quien vivimos la presencia de Dios y en cuya imagen seremos transfigurados. Leemos la historia de la transfiguración para que podamos entender otra dimensión de Jesús. El es más grande de lo que hemos pensado y nos dice: "No tengas miedo, mírame." 1.) ¿En qué te pareces a Pedro en este evangelio? Ver a Jesús transfigurado fue tan hermoso, que él no quería moverse de ahí. En Nueva Orleans hay un famoso eslogan que dice: "Deja los buenos tiempos correr". Queremos que los buenos tiempos si-gan, que nunca terminen. Por supuesto, esto no será posible hasta que lleguemos al cielo. Aquí en la tierra necesitamos a Jesús en la gloria de una hermosa liturgia, en momento de ora-ción, o en el amor de los padres, amigos y esposos. 2.) Pero también lo vemos, si ponemos los ojos en él, cuando bajamos la montaña para regresar a la vida cotidiana. Jesús si-gue dirigiéndonos. ¿Cómo puedes mantener tus ojos en Jesús en obras de justicia y misericordia, ayudando a los menos afortu-nados? ¿Quién o qué te puede ayudar a buscar a Jesús aquí?

Por favor recoge un plato de cualquier entrada de la Iglesia, sea generoso, y done el dinero que ahorra cuando ayuna u otra cosa durante la Cuaresma. CAMBIO: Cuaresma es cambio y cambiar no es fácil. Para poder cambiar debemos dejar algo
atrás. Hoy escuchamos acerca de un hom-bre muy viejo que decide responder al lla-mado de Dios. Abram atraviesa por una
tremenda cantidad de cambios cuando todo lo deja y lo arriesga por la promesa de
Dios. Jesús cambia, se transfigura, justo delante de los ojos de sus discípulos. Las
escrituras en Cuaresma nos llaman a cam-biar, a ser transfigurados, para que tam-bién nosotros pronto participemos en la
gloria de Dios. ¿Qué nos pide Dios dejar atrás? ¿Estamos dispuestos a arriesgarlo todo por la promesa que Dios hace? Estas
son las preguntas centrales en el camino de conversión de la Cuaresma.

Regulaciones de Cuaresma:
ABSTINENCIA: Todas las personas de 14 años de edad, deben de abstenerse de comer carne todos los Viernes durante la Cuaresma. AYUNO: Personas de 18 años y mayores hasta los 59 años, deben ayunar el Miércoles de Ce-niza y el Viernes Santo. Solamente una comida completa es permitida en días de ayuno. Las otras dos comidas, que sean lo suficiente para mantener fuerza, pueden tomarse de acuerdo a las necesidades de cada uno. Pero ambas que no sean una comida completa. Comer entre las comidas no está permitido, solamente líquidos. La obligación no se aplica a esas personas que su salud o habilidad para trabajar seria seriamente afectada. Cualquier persona que no esté seguro acerca del ayuno o abstinencia debe consultar a
un sacerdote de la Parroquia

Sus donacio-nes también ayudan a reforzar la fe y a conti-nuar el legado en los programas de evangeliza-ción en comunidades afroamericanas, especial-mente en el Sur del pais. Estos programas ayu-dan a compartir la misión con niños y adultos aquí en los Estados Unidos

Small Christian Communities: Epiphany invites everyone to join a Small Christian Community (SCC) this Lenten Season to help prepare for Easter. They will be six weeks long—days and times vary. So they fit around your schedule! Operation Rice Bowl:
Just as we celebrate the Eucharist on Sun-days, we can use Operation Rice Bowl throughout Lent as a way to “break bread” together with family and loved ones. We join in the traditional practices of Lent and pray as a community, fast in solidarity with those who are hungry, give concrete assistance to those most in need, while we learn about the joys and challenges in the lives of our broth-ers and sisters around the world. Please pick up a Rice Bowl at any entrance of the church, be generous, and donate the money you save by fasting or giving up something for Lent. At the end of Lent, please return the Rice Bowl to the Parish Office.

CHANGE: Lent is all about change and change is usually not easy. In order to change we
have to leave something behind. Today we hear about a very old man who decides to answer God’s call. Abram experiences a tremendous amount of change when he
leaves everything behind, risking it all for God’s promise. Jesus changes, is transfig-ured, right before the eyes of his disciples. The Lenten scriptures issue the call for us to change, to be transfigured, so that we, too, will soon share in the glory of God. What is it that the Lord is asking us to
leave behind? Are we willing to take the risk for the promise made by God? These questions are at the heart of the Lenten

Lenten Regulations:
ABSTINENCE: All who have reached their 14th birthday are to abstain from eating meat on all Fridays during Lent. FASTING: All those who are 18 and older, until their 59th birthday, are to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Only one full meal is allowed on days of fast. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to one’s needs, but together, they should not equal a full meal. Eating be-tween meals is not permitted, but liquids are allowed. The obligation does not apply to those whose health or ability to work would be seri-ously affected. People in doubt about fasting or abstinence should consult a parish priest.

Your financial contributions helps to support Catholic American Indian communities on reservations, in rural areas and inner cities. Your sacrificial gift also supports African American evangelization programs particularly in the south. Your donation funds evangelization programs to strengthen the faith, continue the legacy and share the mission with children and adults here in the United States.
