Teaching PE for TAs, HLTAs, Cover Supervisors and those

    without QTS in Secondary PE

This is a practical activity and workshop based course which will cover the basic

requirements and expectations for those involved in the teaching of Physical

Education. This includes those who support teachers and those who cover for

    teachers; including PPA time.

It is designed to give a basic understanding of Physical Education and how this

should be taught including what pupils should know, apply and understand. We

will explore different ways of organising activity when pupils work as an individual,

pair or in small groups. We will also explore strategies involving competition and

    how this is organised.

GCSE PE - Ensuring beyond expected progress

This workshop based course is designed for teachers who deliver GCSE PE. It is

designed to give class teachers the changes in courses, lots of example activities,

a wide range of teaching strategies and ways to scaffold learning in the

classroom to ensure pupil progress and ensure application of skills, knowledge

and understanding „sticks‟ and can be used in controlled assessments, formative

assessments as well as in examination conditions. The course will also cover the

use of tackling examination questions, how to track and monitor progress and

expectations of teachers in relation to work scrutiny and feedback. It will also look

at work scrutiny, effective marking and feedback to students as well as how to

deliver „good‟ and „outstanding‟ theory lessons.

Val Sabin Secondary School Dance - KS3 Dances makes an invaluable contribution to pupils‟ personal development and

some children can express themselves more easily through dance than through

the written or spoken word. Dance always needs to be interesting, exciting and

fun, and should enable pupils to learn as they move, but this becomes even more

important from the age of 11 years, where capturing and maintaining interest is

    sometimes harder.

This course will identify and explore the core skills and principles that comprise the

“Language of Dance”; offer guidance on planning, teaching styles and strate-

gies, choosing and using stimuli for Dance, and suggestions for additional forms of

accompaniment. It will examine the essential aspects of composing, performing

and appreciation by working through some practical dances. Dances and

dance activities appropriate for the age group are linked to National Curriculum

requirements and expected standards of performance.

Course members should dress appropriately for practical participation. A paper-

back manual with 11 CDs of music accompany the course.

Implementation of the new National Curriculum for PE 2014

This is a workshop based course that enables teachers to have a clear

understanding of how to plan for the delivery of the new National Curriculum.

There will be activities that show teachers how to achieve the 4 aims of the New

National Curriculum with pupils and how this can be achieved in individual

lessons and throughout the year. We will also explore the new attainment targets

at the end of each Key Stage and what they are expected to know, apply and

understand. We will also look at teaching and learning strategies that will support

    this.

    Course objectives:

To know and understand the similarities and differences between the

current NC framework and the new 2014 framework

To know and understand the expected minimum standards in each activity

    area

Val Sabin Secondary School Gymnastics - KS3

Whilst individual skill-learning should always continue to be a major factor in the

teaching of Gymnastics, it is also recognised that skill adaptation, refinement and

development in twos, threes and groups will provide more interesting and exciting

    work at Key Stage 3.

This course will analyse and clarify principles of movement and provide teachers

with the materials and extension activities to motivate pupils at Key Stage 3. Prac-

tical application and discussion will also develop knowledge and understanding.

Core skills and essential principles of movement together with sequence construc-

tion will be identified in some detail. These will be incorporated into more complex

sequences and developed, adapted and refined for use on both floor and ap-

paratus. Stimulating units of work will be explored and minimum standards of per-

formance will be identified and discussed in detail to enable teachers to more

accurately define attainment in their pupils. Course members should dress appro-

priately for practical participation. A paperback manual containing 11 units of

work, specific skills and a teaching guide accompanies the course.

Ensuring beyond expected progress and improving

attainment in Secondary Core PE for class teachers This is a workshop based course which will cover how a class teacher gets the

most out of their students in secondary Core PE. It is designed to give practical

examples for class teachers for theory and practical elements of the course

covering the use of Blooms and Solo Taxonomy in planning for deep learning and

ensuring „stickability‟ of application of skills, knowledge and understanding. The

course will also cover the use of scaffolding to enable students to achieve more

in assignments, how to prepare and enable students to pass the online external

assessment, as well as strategies and tricks to get the most out of your students

and stretch them to achieve beyond their predictions in assignments.

This course is ideal for those who are currently delivering Core PE and wish to be

up to date on the latest teaching strategies, concepts and ideas to ensure

teachers get the best out of their students.
