Appendix C – Book Level Equivalencies There are a variety of systems used for designating book levels. Our books are
labeled with the “Guided Reading” system of letters. These are in the first
column. The MCP books we use are labeled with numbers that are less finely
categorized. You can read across the columns for equivalent levels. So a level C
book is a MCP level 1 book and it is also a beginning first grade level book. You
should know that these ratings are not perfect: There is variablility even among
those with the same designation.
