PART 1-GENERAL

1.01 THE REQUIREMENT

A. Metal materials not otherwise specified shall conform to the requirements of this Section.

1.04 SUBMITTALS

A. Material certifications shall be submitted along with any shop drawings for metal

products and fabrications required by other sections of the Specifications.

1.05 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Owner may engage the services of a testing agency to test any metal materials for

conformance with the material requirements herein. If the material is found to be in

conformance with Specifications the cost of testing will be borne by the Owner. If the

material does not conform to the Specifications, the cost of testing shall be paid by the

Contractor and all materials not in conformance as determined by the Engineer shall be

replaced by the Contractor at no additional cost to the Owner. In lieu of replacing

materials the Contractor may request further testing to determine conformance, but any

such testing shall be paid for by the Contractor regardless of outcome of such testing.

PART 2-PRODUCTS

2.01 CARBON AND LOW ALLOY STEEL

PART 1- GENERAL

1.01 THE REQUIREMENT

A. Furnish all materials, labor, and equipment required to provide all metal welds andfasteners not otherwise specified, in accordance with the Contract Documents.

1.04 SUBMITTALS

A. Submit the following in accordance with Article 6 of the General Conditions.

1. Shop Drawings providing the fastener's manufacturer and type, and certification

of the fastener's material and capacity.

2. Copy of valid certification for each person who is to perform field welding.

3. Certified weld inspection reports when required.

4. Welding procedures.

1.05 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Fasteners not manufactured in the United States shall be tested and certification provided

with respect to specified quality and strength standards. Certifications of origin shall be

submitted for all U. S. fasteners supplied on the project.

B. All steel welding shall be performed by welders certified in accordance with AWS D1. 1.

All aluminum welding shall be performed by welders certified in accordance with AWS

D1.2. Certifications of field welders shall be submitted prior to performing any field

welds.

C. Welds and high strength bolts used in connections of structural steel will be visually

inspected in accordance with Article 3.04.

D. The Owner may engage an independent testing agency to perform testing of welded

connections and to prepare test reports in accordance with AWS. Inadequate welds shall

be corrected or redone and retested to the satisfaction of the Engineer and/or an

acceptable independent testing laboratory, at no additional cost to the Owner.

E. Provide a welding procedure for each type and thickness of weld. For welds that are not

prequalified, include a Performance Qualification Report. The welding procedure shall be

given to each welder performing ihe weld. The welding procedure shall follow the format

in Annex E of AWS D1.1 with relevant information presented.

PART 2- PRODUCTS

2.01 ANCHOR BOLTS

A. Anchor bolts shall conform to ASTM A36 or ASTM A307 Grade A except where

stainless steel or other approved anchor bolts are shown on the Drawings. Anchor bolts

shall have hexagonal heads and shall be supplied with hexagonal nuts meeting therequirements of ASTM A563 Grade A.

B. Where anchor bolts are used to anchor galvanized steel or are otherwise specified to begalvanized, anchor bolts and nuts shall be hot-dip galvanized in accordance with ASTMA307.

C. Where pipe sleeves around anchor bolts are shown on the Drawings, pipe sleeves shall becut from Schedule 40 PVC plastic piping meeting the requirements of ASTM Dl 785.

2.02 HIGH STRENGTH BOLTS

A. High strength bolts and associated nuts and washers shall be in accordance with ASTMA325 or ASTM A490. Bolts, nuts and washers shall meet the requirements of AISC"Specification for Structural Joints Using ASTM A325 or A490 Bolts".

B. Where high strength bolts are used to connect galvanized steel or are otherwise specifiedto be galvanized, bolts, nuts, and washers shall be hot-dip galvanized in accordance withASTM A325.

2.03 STAINLESS STEEL BOLTS

A. Stainless steel bolts shall conform to ASTM F-593. All underwater fasteners shall beType 316 stainless steel. Unless otherwise specified, fasteners for aluminum and stainlesssteel members shall be Type 316 stainless steel.

B. Stainless steel bolts shall have hexagonal heads with a raised letter or symbol on the boltsindicating the manufacturer, and shall be supplied with hexagonal nuts meeting therequirements of ASTM F594. Nuts shall be of the same alloy as the bolts.

2.04 CONCRETE ANCHORS

A. Where concrete anchors are called for on the Drawings, one of the types listed belowshall be used; except, where one of the types listed below is specifically called for on theDrawings, only that type shall be used. Unless otherwise noted, all concrete anchorswhich are submerged; or which are subject to vibration from equipment such as pumpsand generators, shall be adhesive anchors. The determination of anchors equivalent tothose listed below shall be on the basis of test data performed by a commercial testinglaboratory. There are two types used:

I. Expansion anchors shall be wedge, sleeve, or drop-in mechanical anchors.

2. Adhesive anchors shall be two part injection type.

B. Expansion anchors shall be Kwik Bolt II by Hilti, Inc., or Trubolt Wedge Anchor by ITWRamset/Redhead and shall be embedded to the depths shown on the Drawings. If noembedment depth is given, the minimum embedment depth as recommended by themanufacturer shall be used.

C. Adhesive anchors shall consist of threaded rods or bolts anchored with an adhesivesystem into hardened concrete or grout-filled masonry. The adhesive system shall use a

two-component adhesive mix and shall be injected with a static mixing nozzle following

manufacturer's instructions. The embedment depth of the rod/bolt shall provide a

minimum allowable bond strength that is equal to the allowable tensile capacity of the

rod/bolt (see Table 1) unless noted otherwise on the Drawings. The adhesive system shall

be "Sikadur Injection Gel" as manufactured by Sika Corporation, "Epcon System" as

manufactured by ITW Ramset/Redhead, or "HIT HY-150 Injection Adhesive Anchor

System" as manufactured by Hilti, Inc.

D. Concrete anchors used to anchor steel shall be ofA36 steel unless noted otherwise. Where

steel to be anchored is galvanized, concrete anchors shall also be galvanized.

E. Concrete anchors used to anchor aluminum, FRP, or stainless steel shall be Type 316

stainless steel unless noted otherwise. All underwater concrete anchors shall be Type 316

stainless steel.

2.05 MASONRY ANCHORS

A. Anchors for fastening to solid or grout-filled masonry shall be adhesive anchors as

specified above for concrete anchors.

B. Anchors for fastening to hollow: masonry or brick shall be adhesive anchors consisting of

threaded rods or bolts anchored with an adhesive system dispensed into a screen tube

inserted into: the masonry. The adhesive system shall use a two-component adhesive mix

and shall be injected into the screen tube with a static mixing nozzle. The adhesive

system shall be "Epcon System" as manufactured by ITW Ramset/Redhead, "HIT HY-20

System" as manufactured by Hilti, mc, or equal.

C. Masonry anchors used to anchor steel shall be of A36 steel unless noted otherwise.

Where steel to be anchored is galvanized, anchors shall also be galvanized.

D. Masonry anchors used to anchor aluminum, FRP, or stainless steel shall be Type 316

stainless steel unless noted otherwise.

2.06 WELDS

A. Electrodes for welding structural steel and all ferrous steel shall comply with AWS Code,using E70 series electrodes for shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), or F7 series

electrodes for submerged arc welding (SAW).

B. Electrodes for welding aluminum shall comply with the Aluminum Association

Specifications and AWS D1.2.

C. Electrodes for welding stainless steel and other metals shall comply with AWS code.

2.07 WELDED STUD CONNECTORS

A. Welded stud connectors shall conform to the requirements of AWS DI. 1 Type C.

2.08 EYEBOLTS

A. Eyebolts shall conform to ASTM A489 unless noted otherwise.

. 2.09 HASTELLOY FASTENERS

A. Hastelloy fasteners and nuts shall be constructed of Hastelloy C-276.

2.10 ANTISEIZE LUBRICANT

A. Antiseize lubricant shall be Graphite 50 Anti-Seize by Loctite Corporation, 1000 Anti-

Seize Paste by Dow Coming, 3M Lube and Anti-Seize by 3M, or equal.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 MEASUREMENTS

A. The Contractor shall verify all dimensions and review the Drawings and shall report any

discrepancies to the Engineer for clarification prior to starting fabrication.

3.02 BOLT INSTALLATION

A. Anchor Bolts, Concrete Anchors, and Masonry Anchors

1. Anchor bolts shall be installed in accordance with AISC "Code of Standard

Practice" by setting in concrete while it is being placed and positioned by means

of a rigidly held template.

2. The Contractor shall verify that all concrete and masonry anchors have been

installed in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations and that the

capacity of the installed anchor meets or exceeds the specified safe holdingcapacity.

3. Concrete anchors shall not be used in place of anchor bolts without Engineer'sapproval.

4. All stainless steel threads shall be coated with antiseize lubricant.

B. High Strength Bolts

1. All bolted connections for structural steel shall use high strength bolts. High

strength bolts shall be installed in accordance with AISC "Specification for

Structural Joints, using A325 or A490 Bolts." All high strength bolts installed by

the "turn-of-nut" method shall have the turned portion marked with reference to

the steel being connected after the nut has been made snug and prior to final

tightening. These marks will be considered in inspection.

2. All stainless steel bolts shall be coated with antiseize lubricant.

C. Other Bolts

1. All dissimilar metal shall be connected with appropriate fasteners and shall be

insulated with a dielectric or equal. Unless otherwise specified, where aluminum

and steel members are connected together they shall be fastened with Type 316

stainless steel bolts and insulated with micarta, nylon, rubber, or equal.

3.03 WELDING

A. All welding shall comply with AWS Code for procedures, appearance, quality of welds,qualifications of welders and methods used in correcting welded work.

B. Welded stud connectors shall be installed in accordance with AWS Dl. 1.

3.04 INSPECTION

A. High strength bolting will be visually inspected in accordance with AISC "Specificationfor Structural Joints Using A325 or A490 Bolts." Rejected bolts shall be either replacedor retightened as required. In cases of disputed bolt installation, the bolts in question shallbe checked by a calibrated wrench certified by an independent testing laboratory. Thecertification shall be at the Contractor's expense.

B. Field welds will be visually inspected in accordance with AWS Codes. Inadequate welds

shall be corrected or redone as required in accordance with AWS Codes at theContractor's expense.

SECTION 05500METAL FABRICATIONS

PART I - GENERAL

1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS: Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General andSupplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.

1.2 SUMMARY

A. This Section includes the following:

I. Steel framing and supports for mechanical and electrical equipment.

2. Steel framing and supports for applications where framing and supports are notspecified in other Sections.

3. Miscellaneous steel trim including plate for overhead door motor mounting andedge angles for overhead door sills.

4. Metal bollards.

5. Structural Steel roof framing.

B. Products furnished, but not installed, under this Section include the following:

1. Anchor bolts, steel pipe sleeves, and wedge-type inserts indicated to be cast intoconcrete or built into unit masonry.

1.3 SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: For the following:

1. Paint products.

2. Grout.

B. Shop Drawings: Show fabrication and installation details for metal fabrications;professionally drafted to scale.

1. Include plans, elevations, sections, and details of metal fabrications and theirconnections. Show anchorage and accessory items.

2. Provide templates for anchors and bolts specified for installation under otherSections.

3. For installed products indicated to comply with design loads, include structuralanalysis data signed and sealed by the qualified professional engineer responsiblefor their preparation.

C. Mill Certificates: Signed by manufacturers of stainless-steel sheet certifying that products

furnished comply with requirements.

D. Welding certificates.

E. Qualification Data: For professional engineer.

1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Welding: Qualify procedures and personnel according to the following:

1. AWS DII, "Structural Welding Code--Steel."

2. AWS D1 .2, "Structural Welding Code--Aluminum."

3. AWS DI.3, "Structural Welding Code--Sheet Steel."

4. AWS DI.6, "Structural Welding Code--Stainless Steel."

1.5 PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Field Measurements: Verify actual locations of walls and other construction contiguous

with metal fabrications by field measurements before fabrication and indicate

measurements on Shop Drawings.

1. Established Dimensions: Where field measurements cannot be made without

delaying the Work, establish dimensions and proceed with fabricating metal

fabrications without field measurements. Coordinate wall and other contiguous

construction to ensure that actual dimensions correspond to established

dimensions.

2. Provide allowance for trimming and fitting at site.

1.6 COORDINATION

A. Coordinate installation of anchorages for metal fabrications. Furnish setting drawings,

templates, and directions for installing anchorages, including sleeves, concrete inserts,

anchor bolts, and items with integral anchors, that are to be embedded in concrete or

masonry. Deliver such items to Project site in time for installation.

PART 2-PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURERS: In other Part 2 articles where titles below introduce lists, the following

requirements apply to product selection: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by

one of the manufacturers specified.

2.7 FABRICATION GENERAL

A. Shop Assembly: Preassemble items in the shop to greatest extent possible. Disassembleunits only as necessary for shipping and handling limitations. Use connections thatmaintain structural value of joined pieces. Clearly mark units for reassembly andcoordinated installation.

B. Cut, drill, and punch metals cleanly and accurately. Remove burrs and ease edges to aradius of approximately 1/32 inch, unless otherwise indicated. Remove sharp or roughareas on exposed surfaces.

C. Form bent-metal comers to smallest radius possible without causing grain separation orotherwise impairing work. Form exposed work true to line and level with accurate anglesand surfaces and straight edges.

D. Form exposed work true to line and level with accurate angles and surfaces and straight

edges.

E. Weld comers and seams continuously to comply with the following:

1. Use materials and methods that minimize distortion and develop strength andcorrosion resistance of base metals.

2. Obtain fusion without undercut or overlap.

3. Remove welding flux immediately.

4. At exposed connections, finish exposed welds and surfaces smooth and blendedso no roughness shows after finishing and contour of welded surface matches thatof adjacent surface.

Fabricate to sizes, shapes, and profiles indicated and as necessary toreceive adjacent construction retained by framing and supports. 2.9 LOOSE BEARING AND LEVELING PLATES

A. Provide loose hearing and leveling plates for steel items bearing on masonry or concreteconstruction. Drill plates to receive anchor bolts and for grouting.

B. Galvanize plates after fabrication.

C. Prime plates with zinc-rich primer.

2.10 MISCELLANEOUS STEEL TRIM

A. Unless otherwise indicated, fabricate units from steel shapes, plates, and bars of profilesshown with continuously welded joints and smooth exposed edges. Miter comers and useconcealed field splices where possible.

B. Provide cutouts, fittings, and anchorages as needed to coordinate assembly andinstallation with other work. Provide with integrally welded steel strap anchors forembedding in concrete or masonry construction.

C. Galvanize miscellaneous steel trim.

2.11 METAL BOLLARDS

A. Fabricate metal bollards from galvanized Schedule 40 steel pipe as indicated.

1. Cap bollards with 1/4-inch- thick steel plate; weld and chamfer edge smooth.

2. Where bollards are indicated to receive push-button controls for door operators,provide necessary cutouts for push-button controls and hole for wire.

2.13 STEEL AND IRON FINISHES.

A. Galvanizing: Hot-dip galvanize items as indicated to comply with applicable standardlisted below:

B. Preparation for Shop Priming: Prepare uncoated ferrous-metal surfaces to comply withminimum requirements indicated below for SSPC surface preparation specifications andenvironmental exposure conditions of installed metal fabrications:

I . Exteriors (SSPC Zone IB): SSPC-SP 6/NACE No. 3, "Commercial BlastCleaning."

2. Interiors (SSPC Zone 1A): SSPC-SP 3, "Power Tool Cleaning."

C. Shop Priming: Apply shop primer to uncoated surfaces of metal fabrications, exceptthose with galvanized finishes and those to be embedded in concrete, sprayed-onfireproofing, or masonry, unless otherwise indicated. Comply with SSPC-PA I, "PaintApplication Specification No. 1: Shop, Field, and Maintenance Painting of Steel," forshop painting.

1. Stripe paint comers, crevices, bolts, welds, and sharp edges.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION, GENERAL

A. Cutting, Fitting, and Placement: Perform cutting, drilling, and fitting required forinstalling metal fabrications. Set metal fabrications accurately in location, alignment, andelevation; with edges and surfaces level, plumb, true, and free of rack; and measuredfrom established lines and levels.

B. Fit exposed connections accurately together to form hairline joints. Weld connections thatare not to be left as exposed joints but cannot be shop welded because of shipping size

C. Field Welding: Comply with the following requirements:

1. Use materials and methods that minimize distortion and develop strength andcorrosion resistance of base metals.

2. Obtain fusion without undercut or overlap.

3. Remove welding flux immediately.

4. At exposed connections, finish exposed welds and surfaces smooth and blendedso no roughness shows after finishing and contour of welded surface matches thatof adjacent surface.

D. Fastening to In-Place Construction: Provide anchorage devices and fasteners where metal

fabrications are required to be fastened to in-place construction. Provide threaded

fasteners for use with concrete and masonry inserts, toggle bolts, through bolts, lag bolts,wood screws, and other connectors.

E. Provide temporary bracing or anchors in formwork for items that arc to be built into

concrete, masonry, or similar construction.

F. Corrosion Protection: Coat concealed surfaces of aluminum that will come into contact

with grout, concrete, masonry, wood, or dissimilar metals with a heavy coat of non-migrating bituminous paint.

3.2 INSTALLING MISCELLANEOUS FRAMING AND SUPPORTS

A. General: Install framing and supports to comply with requirements of items beingsupported, including manufacturers' written instructions and requirements indicated onShop Drawings.

B. Anchor supports for operable partitions securely to and rigidly brace from buildingstructure.

C. Support steel on solid grouted masonry, concrete, or steel pipe columns. Secure with

anchor bolts embedded in grouted masonry or concrete or with bolts through top plates of

pipe columns.

1. Where grout space under bearing plates is indicated for girders supported onconcrete or masonry, install as specified in "Installing Bearing and LevelingPlates' Article.

D. Install pipe columns on concrete footings with grouted baseplates. Position and grout

column baseplates as specified in "Installing Bearing and Leveling Plates" Article.

1. Grout baseplate of columns supporting steel girders after girders are installed and

leveled.

3.3 INSTALLING BEARING AND LEVELING PLATES

A. Clean concrete and masonry bearing surfaces of bond-reducing materials, and roughen toimprove bond to surfaces. Clean bottom surface of plates.

B. Set bearing and leveling plates on wedges, shims, or leveling nuts. After bearingmembers have been positioned and plumbed, tighten anchor bolts. Do not remove wedgesor shims but, if protruding, cut off flush with edge of bearing plate before packing withgrout.

1. Use non-shrink grout, either metallic or nonmetallic, in concealed locationswhere not exposed to moisture; use non-shrink, nonmetallic grout in exposedlocations, unless otherwise indicated.

2. Pack grout solidly between bearing surfaces and plates to ensure that no voidsremain.

3.4 INSTALLING METAL BOLLARDS

A. Anchor bollards in concrete with pipe sleeves preset and anchored into concrete. Fillannular space around bollard solidly with non-shrink, nonmetallic grout; mixed andplaced to comply with grout manufacturer's written instructions. Slope grout upapproximately 1/8 inch toward bollard.

3.5 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING

A. Touchup Painting: Immediately after erection, clean field welds, bolted connections, andabraded areas. Paint uncoated and abraded areas with the same material as used for shoppainting to comply with SSPC-PA 1 for touching up shop-painted surfaces.

1. Apply by brush or spray to provide a minimum 2.0-mil dry film thickness.

B. Touchup Painting: Cleaning and touchup painting of field welds, bolted connections, andabraded areas of shop paint are specified in Division 09 painting Sections.

C. Galvanized Surfaces: Clean field welds, bolted connections, and abraded areas and repairgalvanizing to comply with ASTM A 780.

2.01 METAL MATERIALS

A. All welds and fasteners used for gratings shall conform to Section 05050, Metal

Fastening, unless noted otherwise.

. 2.03 GRATING

A. General - Grating, including support frames, fastenings, and all necessary appurtenancesfor a complete installation, shall be furnished as indicated on the Drawings.

1. All exposed bearing ends of grating shall be enclosed in a perimeter band of thesame dimensions and material as the main bars, including ends at all cutouts.

2. Grating shall be fabricated into easily removable sections and shall be fastened at

each comer and as required with fasteners provided by the grating manufacturer.No fasteners shall be permitted to project above the walking surface.

3. Grating shall be designed for a loading of 150 psf unless otherwise required bythe Drawings. Minimum grating depth shall be 1-1/2 inches, unles structuralrequirements based on clear span require more depth.

B. Aluminum Grating

1. Aluminum grating shall be of I-bar type and shall consist of extruded bearingbars positioned and locked by crossbars All supports, cross members, etc. shallbe aluminum. Plank clips for grating holddowns or other required attachments,shall be aluminum or stainless steel. Bolts shall be stainless steel.

2. Grating shall be "I-Bar", as manufactured by Klemp Corporation, "Swage

Locked Grating" as manufactured by Borden Metal Products or I-Bar 19SG14",by Ohio Grating.

C. Aluminum Plank Grating

I. Aluminum plank grating shall be unpunched planks of extruded aluminumwelded together to form panels. Panel ends shall have an extruded aluminum endbar welded in place. All support members shall be aluminum. Plank clips forgrating holddowns or other required attachments, shall be aluminum or stainlesssteel. Bolts shall be stainless steel.

2. Aluminum plank grating shall be Model HD Plank manufactured by IKGBorden, Heavy Duty Series manufactured by Ohio Gratings, Inc., or Duo-GripExtruded Series manufactured by Klemp Corporation.

D. Heavy Duty Galvanized Steel Grating

1. Main bearing bars shall conform to ASTM A36. Cross bars shall be flush withthe top of the grating.

2. Grating span shall be 36 inches maximum and shall satisfy AASHTO loading forH-20 truck.

3. Grating shall be manufactured by IKG Borden Industries, Leeds, AL.

2.04 ACCESS HATCHES

A. Access hatches shall be aluminum unless noted otherwise.

B. All access hatches shall be checker plate with an approved raised pattern, non-skidsurface.

C. Access hatches shall be designed to carry a minimum live load of 150 psf, or aconcentrated load of 300 pounds at the center, whichever produces the greatest stress.

D. Access hatches shall not exceed an allowable fiber stress of 16,000 psi. Live loaddeflection shall be limited to L/240 of the span, but not more than 1/4-inch, stiffened asrequired to maintain allowable stress and deflection requirements specified herein.Stiffeners shall consist of angles or bars welded to the bottom of the plate.

F. Hinges, where indicated on the Drawings, shall be insulated, heavy-duty, cadmium platedbronze with stainless steel pins and fasteners.

G. All access hatches as indicated on the Drawings shall be provided with recessed handles.Handle material shall match hatch material.

H. Air-tight and water-tight access hatches shall be provided with a 1/8 inch thick neoprenegasket between the checkered plate and the support frame. Gasket material shall bebonded to the support frame and access hatches shall be bolted to the structural supportframe with counter sunk stainless steel flathead screws. 0

2.05 ACCESS DOORS

A. General

1. Door opening sizes, number and direction of swing of door leaves, and locationsshall be as shown on the Drawings. The Drawings shall indicate the clearopening dimensions.

2. All doors shall be aluminum unless otherwise noted.

3. Openings larger than 42 inches in either direction shall have double leaf doors.

4. Doors shall be designed for flush mounting and for easy opening from bothinside and outside.

5. All doors shall be provided with an automatic hold-open and with release handle.

6. Double leaf doors shall be provided with safety bars to go across the open sidesof the door, when in the open position. Brackets shall be provided on theunderside of the doors to hold the safety bars when not in use.

7. All hardware, including but not limited to, all parts of the latch and liftingmechanism assemblies, hold open arms and guides, brackets, hinges, springs,pins, and fasteners shall be stainless steel.

8. All doors shall be watertight.

9. Doorframes shall be extruded and equipped with a 1-1/2 inch minimum drainpipe located by the manufacturer. The drain pipe shall be provided by theContractor and shall extend to the nearest point of discharge acceptable to theEngineer.

B. Floor, Wet Well and Dry Pit Access Doors

I. Door leaves shall be 1/4 inch, minimum, diamond pattern plate.

2. Doors shall be designed for a 300 psf live load minimum, unless noted otherwise.

3. Exterior doors shall be Type "Jo or "JD", by Bileb Company, Type "TPS" or byU.S. Foundry and Manufacturing Company, Type "TE" or "TE-D", byThompson Fabricating Company.

4. Interior doors shall be Type "K" or "KD", by Bilco Company, Type "APS" or"APD", by U.S. Foundry and Manufacturing Company, Type "TI" or "TI-OD",by Thompson Fabricating Company.

. 2.04 FALL THROUGH PREVENTION SYSTEM

A. All access hatches and access doors covering openings measuring 12 inches or more in itsleast dimension through which persons may fall shall be equipped with a fall throughprevention system, except where noted on the Contract Drawings. The fall throughprevention system shall be manufactured froth aluminum and stainless steel with asynthetic netting covering the opening. The net system shall be able to slide open tofacilitate access.

B. Fall through prevention system shall be The Hatch Net 120 or The Hatch Net 121 by SafeApproach, Inc., or equal.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 FABRICATION

A. All measurements and dimensions shall be based on field conditions and shall be verifiedby the Contractor prior to fabrication. Such verification shall include coordination withadjoining work.

B. All fabricated work shall be shop fitted together as much as practicable, and delivered tothe field, complete and ready for erection. All miscellaneous items such as stiffeners,fillets, connections, brackets, and other details necessary for a complete installation shallbe provided.

D. Finished members shall conform to the lines, angles, and curves shown on the Drawingsand shall be free from distortions of any kind.

E. All shearings shall be neat and accurate, with parts exposed to view neatly finished.Flame cutting is allowed only when performed utilizing a machine.

F. All shop connections shall be welded unless otherwise indicated on the Drawings orspecified herein. Bolts and welds shall conform to Section 05050, Metal Fastening. Allfastenings shall be concealed where practicable.

3.02 INSTALLATION

A. Assembly and installation of fabricated system components shall be performed in strictaccordance with manufacturer's recommendations.

B. All gratings shall be erected square, plumb and true, accurately fitted, adequatelyanchored in place, and set at proper elevations and positions.
