OVERVIEW

MEGA+MIGS 2019 is committed to offering all of its visitors a safe and welcomingenvironment based on our security protocol and our code of conduct, availablehere.

All items or props that MEGA+MIGS 2019 management deems too similar toweapons will require inspection at our weapon check counter. All approvedcosplay-related weaponry will bear an identification tag, and will be allowedacross all event floors. Any and all weapons restricted by official MEGA+MIGSrules must remain at the weapon check counter, or must immediately be removedfrom MEGA+MIGS premises. No prohibited (illegal) weapons will be tolerated at theevent in any capacity.

Decisions made by the Weapon Master or their delegates are definitive and will bestrictly upheld to guarantee a secure environment for all visitors.

The following consequences may apply to all persons who infringe these rules and can be cumulatively applied:

• Confiscation of the item or weapon without possibility of retrieval;

• Eviction from event premises with no refund;

• Resorting to law enforcement;

• Further applicable punishments judged appropriate by MEGA+MIGS management

The safety of our visitors, exhibitors and staff is a priority for MEGA+MIGS. As aresult, we will guarantee that all personnel in charge of security will ensure thatour code of conduct be respected by all event attendees, notably in regards to ourharassment policy and security protocol. We will therefore work in collaborationwith a private security firm during the event, Port of Montréal security, as well asmunicipal and provincial authorities. The Port of Montréal will be in charge ofemergency procedures regarding fires.

IN ORDER TO ENSURE THAT THE EVENT PROCEEDS SMOOTHLY, HERE IS ANON-EXHAUSTIVE LIST OF SECURITY MEASURES THAT WILL BE IN PLACE:

• Security personnel and volunteers will be available on-site at all times to assistvisitors, exhibitors, and staff;

• All participants must wear their badges in a clear and visible way;

• Bag checks, metal detectors, as well as the weapon check counter will all belocated at the expo entrance.

VISITORS, EXHIBITORS AND STAFF PRESENT DURING THE EVENT AREREQUIRED TO:

• Keep personal belongings on their person at all times and not leave themunattended;

• Signal all unusual or suspect behaviours or conversations to members of staff;

• Remain patient and polite during security checks, follow instructions given bymembers of staff or security personnel at all times;

• Be in possession at all times of a valid photo ID.

RULES – MEGA+MIGS

1. DRUGS

Illegal substances will not be tolerated at MEGA+MIGS. If you are caughtbuying, consuming or selling illegal drugs while on event premises, remedialactions will ensue. If you are under the influence of drugs and interfere in oneway or another with other attendees and their capacity to enjoy MEGA+MIGS,we reserve ourselves the right to escort you outside event premises andadvise authorities.

2. THEFT

Theft will not be tolerated at MEGA+MIGS. If you are caught stealing fromsomeone directly, or taking objects in private or public areas of MEGA+MIGSthat are not explicitly indicated as being free, remedial actions will ensue.

3. VIOLENCE

Violence will not be tolerated at MEGA+MIGS. MEGA+MIGS adheres to the firmconviction that every person is entitled to expectations regarding their healthand safety during the event, and will take necessary measures for theseexpectations to become reality. Violating these expectations of safety throughviolence or threats of violence perpetrated against another attendee isexplicitly forbidden, and will lead to expulsion and reparations.

WEAPON

Any item considered to be a weapon by the Criminal Code or by the MEGA+MIGSWeapon Master and their delegates.

WEAPON MASTER

MEGA+MIGS management representative responsible for applying theMEGA+MIGS weapons policy, either directly, or by intermediary of designatedstaff members (delegates). All decisions taken by the Weapon Master and theirdelegates are final.

PROHIBITED OR ILLEGAL WEAPON

Prohibited weapons are weapons that are not permitted on event premises. Illegalweapons are weapons that cannot be owned, exhibited, or sold in Canada. Bothprohibited and illegal weapons are not allowed at MEGA+MIGS and mustimmediately be removed from event premises. MEGA+MIGS management reservesthe right to advise local law enforcement.

RESTRICTED WEAPON

Non-prohibited (legal) weapons inspected by the Weapon Master or theirdelegates that cannot be brought into event premises. It is possible for legalweapons to be refused entry at MEGA+MIGS (a metal sword, for example).Restricted weapons must remain at the weapon check counter, or must beimmediately removed from event premises.

WEAPONS CONTROL

ACCEPTED WEAPON

Weapons inspected by the MEGA+MIGS Weapon Master or their delegates that areallowed to be carried during the event. A small identification tag will be attachedto all accepted weapons during the event.

WEAPON CHECK COUNTER

Area (there can be more than one) where all items considered to be weaponsbecome the object of inspection by MEGA+MIGS personnel, who will determine ifthe weapon is classified as prohibited, restricted, or accepted.

EXAMPLESPROHIBITED OR ILLEGAL WEAPONS

All weapons deemed illegal outside of event premises are also prohibited in thecontext of the event, and are therefore not permitted at MEGA+MIGS. Here are afew examples (this is not an exhaustive list):

• All firearms;

• Bali-song (butterfly knife) and all other switchblades;

• Knuckle dusters, with or without blades;

• Spiked armbands;

• Morgenstern (morning star) or flail;

• Knives or blades less than 30cm long concealed in normally harmless objects;

• Hand crossbows;

• Nunchaku, tonfa, shuriken, and all other prohibited martial arts weapons(mousse replicas are permitted);

• All weapons intended for law enforcement purposes, such as nightsticks,tasers, or clubs;

• Arrows, sling-bullets, and all other projectiles used with bows, crossbows, orslings;

**Please note: even though certain types of cane-swords, umbrella-blades and similar weapons are notprohibited in Canada, ALL of these items are strictly forbidden at MEGA+MIGS.

EXAMPLES RESTRICTED WEAPONS

The list below presents examples of restricted weapons. MEGA+MIGS reserves theright to determine the admissibility of any article or weapon.

PROJECTILE WEAPONS

• Air guns, air rifles, or other similar devices.

• Pellet guns, BB guns, or other similar devices.

• Flintlock weapons.

• All types of deactivated firearms.

• Firearm replicas made from metal, resin, plastic or solid rubber.

• Lifelike imitations are tolerated only if they are made from acceptable materialsand have no real firing mechanism like real replicas do (a musket without afunctioning firing mechanism, or a pistol with a hollow cylinder).

• All accessories, weapons or items capable of launching a projectile or a chargeof powder, regardless of nature.

• All other projectile weapons must be adorned with an orange security tag at alltimes on event premises. This tag can be removed for photos or contests, withthe condition of re-attaching the tag before returning to walking the expo floor.

• Water guns and foam dart guns are both allowed, but neither can be loaded atany time.

PROJECTILE WEAPONS (continued)

• Bows, crossbows (except for hand crossbows, which are illegal weapons) andslings are accepted only if their strings have been removed prior, or if theypossess a thinner string or filament that does not allow them to throwprojectiles.

• All projectiles used with bows, crossbows and slings, like arrows and bolts, areforbidden.

SWORDS, BLADES, KNIVES AND OTHER COLD STEEL

• Solid plastic (polypropylene) weapon replicas and similar objects.

• Cane swords, umbrella-blades, and similar objects.

• Metal swords and knives, and all real martial arts weapons.

• Metal weapons sold at the event are subject to these same rules, found in the“Special Circumstances” section below.

• Metal chains and similar objects.

• Swords that are part of an ensemble costume are allowed as long as theyattached in such a way that they cannot be removed.

• Blunt objects (made of wood, plastic or metal) like baseball bats, cricket bats, orhockey sticks.

• Butterfly knives.

SHIELDS AND ARMORS

• Shields made of wood, plastic or metal are not allowed if they possess sharpmetal edges, spikes made of metal, wood, solid plastic or other protuberances,or all other particularities deemed unacceptable.

• Armors are not allowed if they possess sharp metal edges, spikes made ofmetal, wood, solid plastic or other protuberances, or all other particularitiesdeemed unacceptable.

LIGHTSABERS

• Lightsabers are permitted as long as they contain no glass.

ROLLING, MOTORIZED, OR BOUNCING DEVICES

• Skateboards, roller skates, rollerblades, unicycles bicycles, hoverboards,scooters, and similar accessories.

• Pogo sticks, spring shoes, jumping shoes, Kangoo Jump shoes, or similaraccessories.

RESTRICTIONS CONCERNING THE WEIGHT, SHAPE ANDCOMPOSITION OF ACCESSORIES

• Any objects with pointy tips, sharp edges, excessive weight, or bearing anyother characteristics deemed dangerous for other MEGA+MIGS attendees arenot allowed.

RESTRICTIONS CONCERNING THE WEIGHT, SHAPE AND COMPOSITION OF ACCESSORIES (continued)

• There is no weight limit for objects, but MEGA+MIGS management reserves the right to forbid heavy items on case-by-case basis.

LASERS

• Laser pointers are strictly forbidden at MEGA+MIGS. If any accessory or weapon includes a laser pointer, it must be deactivated (by removing the batteries, for example).

RESTRICTED ITEMS

• Please note that the weapons or accessories below can be sold at the event, but cannot be presented directly to visitors. If you wish to sell any of these items, we recommend printing a brochure that contains pictures so that clients can see what you have in stock or available:

• Butterfly Combs or similar accessories.

• Butterfly Bottle Openers.

PROCEDURES

MEGA+MIGS management reserves the right to request that any object enteringor found within the event’s premises be handed over to MEGA+MIGS personnel todetermine if its presence is safe or acceptable.

Any item that resembles a weapon according to MEGA+MIGS management willneed to be inspected at the weapon check counter (or be inspected on the spotby the Weapon Master or one of their delegates if either is circulating theexposition floor). Weapons already marked with a safety tag may be sent back tothe weapon check counter for the tag to be validated. MEGA+MIGS staff isauthorized to bring any applicable items directly to the weapon check counter.

The MEGA+MIGS Weapon Master or one of their delegates will inspect the weaponto determine if it is safe.

Accepted weapons will be marked with a small identification tag attached to apart of the item, determined by the Weapon Master or one of their delegates. Thistag must remain attached to the weapon throughout the entire event. Allcounterfeit tags, any alterations or any removal of the tag during the event mayresult in the weapon to be reclassified as restricted, and will lead to the owner’simmediate expulsion.

Restricted weapons must be left at the weapon check counter, or be removedfrom event premises.

PROCEDURES

Prohibited weapons must be immediately removed from event premises. Theycannot remain at the weapon check counter. MEGA+MIGS management reservesthe right to advise law enforcement if necessary.

Illegal weapons must immediately be reported to law enforcement if they arespotted.

No behaviour that threatens the safety of visitors of property by weapon-baringindividuals will be tolerated in the event. This includes activities deemedinappropriate by MEGA+MIGS management, such as combat simulations orroughhousing.

Restricted weapons left at the weapon check counter will be given back to theirowners upon their departure from the event.

Any who ignore or infringe the rules listed above will see any of their weaponsconfiscated with no possibility of retrieval.

It is the concerned party’s responsibility to retrieve any and all weapons kept atthe weapon check counter upon leaving the event. Any and all weapons, items oraccessories left in the Weapon Master’s possession following the front deskclosure of Sunday will be considered as MEGA+MIGS property.
