Join me for the washington ballet’s 2012.13 season, SEducTION. Like the sirens of yore, we are deliberately setting out to tempt you with the most sensuous, sublime and provocative dance in a mix of the new, the recent, the unfamiliar and the classic. Our season expands to five subscription programs accented by explorations into classical literature with the world premieres of Hemingway: The Sun Also Rises and David palmer’s Dangerous Liaisons and the company premiere of michael pink’s Dracula. On the occasion of the presidential inauguration, we are planning our first Tour-de-Force gala-style performance program, Stars and Stripes with George balanchine’s exuberantly patriotic ballet as the centerpiece. You will also experience the company premiere of elaine Kudo’s quartet Opposites Distract, the return of edwaard Liang’s intoxicating Wunderland, and one of ballet’s most beautifully romantic stories, Cinderella.
Families will be delighted by a wonderful mix of classical ballet with Peter and the Wolf and The Nutcracker, the fairy tale magic of Cinderella, and a special gala performance evening, Stars and Stripes/ KIDS, showcasing the washington ballet studio Company and special guests from our celebrated washington school of ballet.
while renewing, i encourage you to secure your seats for our ever-popular holiday classic, The Nutcracker, or enhance your ballet experience by adding on our exclusive behind-the-scene series, inthewings, to your subscription order.
enticing journeys, irresistible productions and enthralling dance—subscription renewal today ensures that you will have the best seats in the theater for what promises to bea seduction of the senses.
i look forward to seeing you at the ballet!

From three of today’s most exciting choreographers come stories about the many aspects of love. Dangerous Liaisons by twb’s David Palmer is a high stakes game of opulent lust, passion and betrayal as only 18th century French aristocrats can play. Set to Vivaldi’s lush Four Seasons, the Marquise challenges Valmont to seduce an innocent girl before she marries. set to an alluring score by philip Glass, edwaard Liang’s dazzling Wunderland evokes amyriad of feelings, especially longing, through its incredibly passionate partnerings. And, soon to be announced, an exciting world premiere on the theme of love by one of the ballet world’s up-and-coming choreographers.

Following on the success of The Great Gatsby, the washington ballet unveils a new ballet based on ernest hemingway’s American classic, The Sun Also Rises. Considered by many to be his finest novel, the story follows an American journalist, Jake barnes, a member of the “lost generation” of 1920s American expatriates, from the seedy café life of paris’ Left bank to the thrilling “running of the bulls” in pamplona, spain. through the extraordinary vision and choreography of septime Webre, this newest exploration of the American literary canon will capture the imagination of dance lovers everywhere.
