Surrounding the world’s largest
natural harbour, the city of Sydney
is only a short taxi ride from the
airport and one of the most welcoming
cities in the world.
Its tree-lined streets are thronged by a
diverse melting-pot full of ‘Sydneysiders’
who all share a laid-back, no-worries
attitude to life and a friendliness that’s
intoxicating. Talk to anyone who lives
here and they’ll tell you it’s the best place
in the world to live!
The city is made up of ten villages that
reflect the diversity of its inhabitants,
from Chinatown in the South to The
Rocks, at its historic centre.
Sydney offers so much; from traditional
architecture to the 800ft high Sydney
Tower, and from its boho chic bars,
restaurants and cafés to elegant hotels
and swanky shopping malls. It’s also
Australia’s cultural capital, with theatres
and museums aplenty, not to mention
sizzling nightlife. The day life is pretty
good too, with sights like the famous
Sydney Harbour Bridge that just begs
you to climb it, the iconic Sydney Opera
House and the ferries that crisscross the
water carrying commuters and
holidaymakers alike.
Any trip to Australia should include a stay
in Sydney, and there’s nowhere better
from which to explore New South Wales.

ESSENTIAL SYDNEY
• Take a cruise round Sydney Harbour by sailing boat, ferry or jet boat
• Dine al fresco overlooking the water and then see a show at the Sydney Opera House
• Climb the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge and get a view of the city from 141 metres up
• Walk from Bondi to Coogee and enjoy the stunning views and a meal at one of the many cafés, hotels and restaurants or grab some takeaway en route
Surfing at Bondi Beach, Sydney
A couple of hours drive from Sydney
brings you to the Hunter Valley,
Australia’s oldest and best known
wine-making region. There are 150
world-class wineries here, many of them
owned by families who have been
producing wine for generations.
The superb soil and perfect climate of
the Hunter Valley was first discovered
over 180 years ago and since then has
consistently produced an impressive
array of varieties and styles of wine.
Wines from the Hunter Valley have won
international acclaim, and many have the
awards to prove it.
Take a tour and choose to stop at any of
many different wineries with a cellar
door. Sample the great vintages, the
crisp Semillons and full-bodied Shirazes.
Surprise your palate with little known
labels or indulge it with the great names.
Of course the Hunter Valley has much
more to offer than what can be bottled!
Once you’ve savoured the reds and the
whites, try the greens at one of the
region’s Championship golf courses or
work-off a long, rustic lunch getting
pampered at a luxurious day spa. There
are many excellent hotels and lodges
that we can recommend, and we can
arrange for you to go horse riding, take a
sunrise balloon trip or even try your hand
at cheese-making.

ESSENTIAL HUNTER VALLEY
• Take a balloon flight and enjoy the silent pleasure of floating across the Hunter Valley - there is no feeling like it in the world
• Tour the vineyards by bicycle or visit one of the Hunter Valley’s many festivals
• Discover the award-winning wines on a boutique wine tour by road, horse & carriage or even helicopter
• Dine at a BYO restaurant, and enjoy the wine you have discovered during the day with your dinner

Just 90 minutes north of Sydney is a
completely different scene. World
Heritage-listed landscapes covered
in abundant eucalyptus trees. Welcome
to the Blue Mountains. You’ll need a
good camera here – to capture endless
sandstone cliffs, gorges, hidden canyons,
tall forests, sparkling waterfalls and
bushland covering an area of one million
hectares. Although more plateau than
peaky mountains, the area is riddled with
deep canyons and gorges, spread with
rainforests, dotted with waterfalls and
Aboriginal sites and alive with the sounds
of birds. The Blue Mountains are also
famous for their eucalyptus trees, some
91 different species whose resin,
vaporised through the leaves and mixed
with fine particles of dust, gives rise to
the area’s distinctive blue haze.
Take in the breathtaking panoramas on a
bush-walk, go mountain biking, climbing
rocks, canyoning or even try your hand at
abseiling. Marvel at natural attractions like
Wentworth Falls, and the Three Sisters, a
trio of rocky pinnacles named after an
Aboriginal legend. Explore the underground
rivers of the Jenolan Caves, then walk
the historic Six Foot Track to Katoomba.
In amongst the sandstone outcrops and
eucalypt forests of the Blue Mountains
you’ll find great dining, luxury retreats,
the world’s steepest railway and a vibrant
artistic community.
Driving along the coast of New
South Wales may take you longer
than you think. You’ll pass
seemingly endless, crescent-shaped
beaches without a soul on them. The
road takes you through dense, damp,
moss-green rainforests and into sleepy
villages and typical, old fashioned
Australian towns. So you’ll find yourself
stopping often, and spending more time
than you planned in each new place.
Picturesque inlets like Port Stephens and
Coffs Harbour, for example. And the
‘alternative therapy’ town of Byron Bay
with its surfers, artists, craftsmen and
bohemians (and, yes, a sing-along, happy
hippy bus service).
There are marine reserves, immaculate
beaches and a rich Aboriginal cultural
history to explore. You can see dolphins
in Jervis Bay, sample award-winning
gourmet cheeses in Bega and watch
whales along the Sapphire Coast. You
can swim in a warm sea that harbours
fantastic coral displays that rival those of
the Great Barrier Reef. When you’ve seen
enough sea, head inland and explore
some of the superb hiking trails in
Australia’s National Parks, amongst
indigenous plants and amazing wildlife.
Our consultants are experts at creating
tailor-made holidays up and down this
spectacular coast. Call us to find out more.
