Everyone wants to feel like they belong and that they are valued in their community. I am thankful to my family and the staff of SNSC for opening closed doors for me and helping me find my own place in our community.

I was born paralyzed with a prognosis of never being able to stand. This year, with practice, courage, and support I built enough strength in my legs to stand. At the SNSC Spring Dance, in the presence of my family and friends, I had my first slow dance.

My SNSC family has changed my whole life and helped me show others that I am more than my disability. With SNSC I have learned resilience, I have developed independence, and I have made rich, lifelong relationships that I know will see me through all stages of my life. I am a hard worker. I am a best friend. I am a dancer. At SNSC, people see me for me.

Board President & Director’s Message

Mission StatementTo help children and adults with special needs, and their families, meet their unique challenges through advocacy

and program support.

The Special Needs Support Center (SNSC) celebrated 39 years of serving the community this year by becoming stronger financially, operationally and administratively; we have expanded services, achieved fiscal stability, strengthened community connections, and developed staff leadership.

Going into our 40th year, we plan to continue service improvements as we re-imagine our program delivery models with input and advice from our larger community. These improvements will dovetail with our fall strategic planning session where we will crystalize our mission, vision and goals for the future.

SNSC is about community. SNSC is about you. Whether or not you or a loved one uses our services, we all benefit from SNSC’s role in building a more vibrant, healthy, inclusive and caring place to live, work, and play.

Thank you for your ongoing support of and care for our community.

Most sincerely,

Executive Director & Board President

Laura & Jo-Anne

“SNSC is about community. SNSC is about YOU.”

Empowering Productive & Fulfilling Lives

“See me as a loving father...”Every parent wants their child to lead a happy life. We dream about the future, we have hopes that our child will be part of a community, have friends, and enjoy health. As a father of a child with autism, I’ve questioned my own ability to raise my daughter to fulfill these dreams. The SNSC team encourages and supports my confidence as a parent. With SNSC, I have grown into a better co-parent with my wife and a better father to my daughter. And they have helped our daughter to develop social skills, make friends, and even learn to swim. Thanks to SNSC I have developed grace in fatherhood that otherwise I would never have known.

“The SNSC team ENCOURAGES

AND SUPPORTS my confidence as a parent.”

Aspire is a recreation program for children on the Autism Spectrum which is offered regularly throughout the year. Children enjoy activities that encourage development of communication and social skills through modeling and practice. Individualized skills and goals are identified and worked on through group play and exploration in the community.

Connections is a 1:1 mentoring program for any child age 6 to 13 who has special needs. In the company of their “big sibs”, children involved in the program have opportunities to get out into the community, engage in new activities, and practice their social skills.

Parent Educational Support and Advocacy supports parents and their children in all aspects of the special education and Section 504 process to assist in ensuring that all students have access to a free and appropriate education.

Fostering Independence

“See me as part of your community...”At SNSC I feel happy and independent in our community. Here, I am accepted without judgement. Whether I am creating art work, dancing with friends, or helping Laura with a special project at the office, I always feel like I belong. SNSC has taught me to believe in myself and what it means to be part of the community.

STAR (Steps Toward Adult Responsibility) is a group mentoring program for teens who have chronic illnesses. Dartmouth College student volunteers, who also have chronic health needs, provide friendship, support and modeling for the teens.
