Whole Numbers

Whole Numbers – The set of numbers that include zero and the natural, or

counting, numbers

Integers – The set of numbers that include zero and positive and negative

whole numbers

Rational Numbers

Rational Number – Any number that can be written as a fraction

Rational numbers can also be written as Decimal Terminating decimals –

Stop or terminate at a specific place value

Nonterminating decimals –

Never stop

Irrational Numbers

Irrational Numbers – Decimals that are nonterminating and do not repeat

Real Numbers – Group that includes rational and irrational numbers

Number Line

Coordinate – The number that corresponds to a point on a number line

Betweenness

If three points are on a number line, then one has to be between the other two!

If and only if means that both the statement and the converse are true. Called biconditional statements.

Greatest Possible Error – Half the smallest unit used to make the measurement
