The construction of theroad was started in 2011 and was supposed tobe completed after 6 months. According to theSecretary from Moganyaka Development Fo-rum Mr Jameson Mamabolo, the R3 Millionproject started in May 2011 by a contractorcalled Seripela and Dingkwenyana Construc-tion who worked for eighteen months withoutcompleting the project. “The contractor wassupposed to complete the project in six monthsbut he failed and then disappeared. The com-munity then went to enquire at the municipalityand they replied by saying that they will urgethe contractor to come and finish the projectbecause he is fully paid,” he said. He added thatnow the contractor left trenches in front ofresidents’ gates that are now threatening thesafety of community members. He also said thekerbs are not fully installed. “We are surprisedto see municipal officials visiting the wardcouncillor to declare the project as completed, whereas as the community we were told that thecontractor will be back to complete the project. Now we are left with unanswered questionsthat how can R3 Million of taxpayers’ money godown the drain with such unfinished workdone?” he asked. He added that now the mu-nicipality claims that they used some of themoney for the upgrade of the new MoganyakaSouth Project. “According to my understand-ing, the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) isnot transferrable, how can the municipalitytransfer funds to a phase 2 project when thephase 1 is not even completed,” he said.
