Part 1: Learning & Neuroscience - In this lively, interactive 1-hour session (8:30-9:35), participants gain a better understanding of how students' brains work and how to create lessons that match how the brain wants to learn. (20-minute break) Part 2: Active Engagement – (9:55-11:00) This session shares a variety of easy-to-implement strategies and structures designed to get students of all learning styles actively engaged in their learning. We will cover classroom implementation as well as adaptations for digital/remote learning. (20-minute break) Part 3: Lesson Design & Tech Tools – (11:20-12:25) Now that we have a dozen or more engagement tools, we will learn to use online tech tools to seamlessly weave together classroom and virtual learning in a way that doesn’t exhaust us or our students, maintains rigorous learning expectations and supports differentiation. ADDITIONAL TRAINING (in-person or virtual TBD) “Conscious Classroom Management: Bringing out the Best in Students and TeachersSanta Cruz Santa Cruz COE Saturday, September 12th 8:30 am - 12:30 pm Silicon Valley Sunnyvale ESD Board Room Saturday, October 3rd 8:30 am - 12:30 pm Positive Assumptions & Connections -participants will learn how their beliefs about challenging students influences how they respond to them, how to read the invisible request that underlies negative behaviors, how to use body language & voice to convey care, how to connect with the most difficult students. Teaching Procedures & Routines – now that we have laid the foundation for assuming the best about challenging students, participants will learn how to teach procedures in a way that maximizes learning, reduces arguing & wasted time, leave with multiple ways to use visuals & other nonverbal techniques for classroom management. De-escalations & Consequences – participants will practice ways to effectively deescalate volatile situations & learn how to use consequences to teach behavioral lessons rather than to punish. While we are hopeful the events below will be held in-person, there is still a possibility they may be rescheduled or held virtually.
