Ponce de León Architects was established by Arch. Carlos Ponce de León in February 2004.

Arch. Carlos Ponce de León graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Uruguay in 1985. In the year 1987 he joined Adolfo Pozzi as partner, under the practice (KVSMV�-��7VaaP�.\LSÄ���*HYSVZ�7VUJL�KL�3L}U�4\_x�(YJOP[LJ[Z and continued as such until Arch. Adolfo Pozzi’s passing away on January 2004. Arch. Carlos Ponce de León practices from February 2004 under 7VUJL�KL�3L}U�(YJOP[LJ[Z.

Looking back into Arch. Carlos Ponce de León’s career, since the beginning of his work he dealt with a broad range of scales and programs such as Urban Planning, (YJOP[LJ[\YHS�HUK�0U[LYPVY�+LZPNU�MVY�KPɈLYLU[�KLZ[PUPLZ�Z\JO�HZ�9LJYLH[PVU��9L[HPS��6ɉJL��Health, Housing, Administration, Education, Industry, Laboratories, and Multifamily and Family Residences, an area in which Arch. Ponce de León has been involved since the beginning of his work, both under his former and current practice. Houses have been designed and constructed simultaneously to the rest of the projects which Arch. Ponce de León has designed, or co-designed with Arch. Pozzi. Locations such as Carrasco (one of Montevideo’s most exclusive residential neighborhoods) and Punta del Este, the main ocean resort in Uruguay, host some of Arch. Ponce de León’s designs.

The association IL[^LLU�7VUJL�KL�3LVU»Z�ÄYT�HUK�^VYSK�wide recognized fellow uruguayan architect Carlos Ott allowed the creation of a new practice specialized in large scale Master 7SHUUPUN��*\S[\YHS��6ɉJL�HUK�9LZPKLU[PHS�

projects. *LSLIYH�6ɉJL�)\PSKPUN�^HZ�H^HYKLK�with the International Commercial Property (^HYK�PU�HZZVJPH[PVU�^P[O�)SVVTILYN�Television, in the category International (YJOP[LJ[\YL�(^HYK��6ɉJL��PU�[OL�`LHY�������Another of this practice’s project, :PY\ZLYP�;LJOUVSVN`�7HYR for TATA Consultancy Services (located in Chennai, India), has already won the 0U[LYUH[PVUHS�7YVWLY[`�(^HYKZ PU�HZZVJPH[PVU�^P[O�)SVVTILYN�;LSL]PZPVU�HZ�)LZ[�6ɉJL�(YJOP[LJ[\YL�IV[O�PU�0UKPH�HUK�(ZPH�7HJPÄJ��HUK�HSZV�^VU�0U[LYUH[PVUHS�(YJOP[LJ[\YL�(^HYK��6ɉJL��PU�[OL�`LHY������

A large amount of projects, covering almost every area of practice, are currently being developed by Ponce de Leon Architects, as well as by *HYSVZ�6[[�(YJOP[LJ[Z�PU�HZZVJPH[PVU�^P[O�*HYSVZ�7VUJL�KL�3L}U�(YJOP[LJ[Z, many of which can already be seen on the website.

Our paractices are one of the most commited in the area of sustainable designs. 7VUJL�KL�3L}U�(YJOP[LJ[Z and�*HYSVZ�6[[�PU�HZZVJPH[PVU�^P[O�*HYSVZ�7VUJL�KL�3L}U�(YJOP[LJ[Z»Z architectural designs impulses to insert the word “green” in all the design stages.

Located in the heart of the exclusive residential neighborhood of Carrasco, this Relais HUK�*OH[LH\_�OV[LS�PZ�[OL�YLZ\S[�VM�YLÄULTLU[��SV]L�MVY�UH[\YL�HUK�HSS�[OL�JVTMVY[�H]HPSHISL�nowadays. The character of this hotel and restaurant is synonymous to style. It represents a choice, an act of daring, and a singular quality.

An old house was located in this 3.600 sq. mts. site located in the corner of Rivera Avenue.and Sanlucar St.. Part of the old construction was re used for the new program, and new enlargements were made towards the east, the south and a new level was added all over the NYV\UK�ÅVVY�SL]LS��(Z�H�YLZ\S[�VM�H�KL[HPSLK�JVUZ\S[H[PVU�^P[O�OV[LS�V^ULYZ�P[�^HZ�WVZZPISL�[V�anticipate and develop this exclusive european architecture and interior design facilities.

The two stories provide approximately 3.600 sq.mts. of accommodation distributed in 24 YVVTZ����Z\P[LZ����TLL[PUN�YVVTZ�H�SP]PUN�YVVT�HUK�H�THNUPÄJLU[�ZTHSS�IHY�[OH[�SVVRZ�[V^HYKZ�the back garden and swimming pool. Each room has its own open garden views and common

areas are not large, just to show a homely atmosphere. The “L” shape of the building projects landscape into the interior, allowing each suite to be closely linked to the green areas. The building employs a low - energy environmental strategy and a range of new construction and traditional technologies. The use of masonry exterior walls allows an easy to maintain energy building cost.

The pioneer in his type, already consolidated as the leader in the capital city, Montevideo Shopping Center expanded with a Multiplex of 10 movie theaters with a capacity for 2200 seats and 645 car parking.

The 18.876 square meters facilities feature stadium theatres with excellent visibility and V[OLY�HJ[P]P[PLZ�HZ�[OLTL�IHZLK�HT\ZLTLU[Z��NHTLZ��ZOVWWPUN�HUK�H�ZTHSS�JVɈLL�ZOVW��Construction of the complex project took nine months, and the architectural design is sleek HUK�TVKLYU��0U[LYPVY�ÄUPZO�\ZLK�TP_LK�TL[HSSPJ�HUK�JVUJYL[L�Z[Y\J[\YLZ��HUK�]HYPLK�ÄUPZOPUN�textures were used in balconies, stairways, and halls.

The shaped brick box dominates the image of the shopping center, while three connections were open into the existing commercial area. Main screen has a dimension of 13x6 meters. The multistory atrium looks over the shopping center, providing remarkable views for the visitors.

Concession areas are located in the main lobby, three levels up from the street level. The project relies on public transportation for the people that visit the commercial facilitie

LAGUNA DEL SAUCE HOUSE1999

Laguna del Sauce is located very near Punta del Este, Maldonado, Uruguay. This private house, located in a plot of 7 hectares, was remodeled and enlarged for an Uruguayan family.

It combines de use of local materials with extremely contextual design. The project demonstrates how contemporary interventions can enhance the old by relying on sensitive juxtaposition rather than competition. The use of “quincho roof” as well as site stones and ^VVK��NP]LZ�[OL�KPɈLYLU[�I\PSKPUNZ�H�WHY[PJ\SHY�ZOHWL�Z\YYV\UKLK�I`�UH[\YHS�MVYLZ[Z��;OL�integration of the house and the bungalow to the site was a priority for the architects in order to preserve the existing trees and their roots.

Large glazed surfaces allow for views towards the laguna and the neighboring forest, and give the volumes a real sense of transparency and communion with nature.

Open verandahs around the main house and bungalow pavilion, provides an extension of interior living areas.

Masonry heaters have been placed in living and bedroom areas to give an alternative heat source to traditional heating systems.

The landscape was generated with a central water pond surrounded by the buildings, and natural gardens linked the plot with the existing lake. The use of natural ventilation reinforces the GREEN features of these particularly curved shaped buildings. A new mezzanine divided the old warehouse in two levels. The façades were entirely glazed and a skylight was opened promoting transparency and natural light.

This project is being developed in association with Carlos A. Ott Architects. The urban Masterplan has been incorporated to the original Zonamerica Masterplan design. Zonamerica, HZ�[OL�3H[PU�(TLYPJH�SLHKPUN�)\ZPULZZ�HUK�;LJOUVSVN`�7HYR��ULLKZ�[V�PUJVYWVYH[L�UL^�VɉJL�space as larger companies are moving headquarters to Montevideo.

3VJH[LK�H[�[OL�UVY[O�^LZ[�VM�[OL�WHYR��[OL�NYV\W�VM�ZP_�]HYPHISL�OLPNO[�VɉJL�I\PSKPUNZ�^PSS�be the architectural connection between the Park and the Zonamerica - Jacksonville Master planned community. Total area provides 95.658 square metres of accommodation, including VɉJLZ�HUK�ZTHSS�ZOVWWPUN�ZWHJLZ�

The project takes an approach- architecturally, technically, socially and spatially- to create a new image for Zonamerica. The towers are placed in two semi circular shapes, surrounding two round plazas.

As part of a comprehensive programme of detailed improvements and enlargements, the main square was completely remodeled, creating a broad pedestrian place in front of the U shape building.

Crescent by The Lake is a pioneering example of integrating living, studying, sharing commercial activities and working nearby, in only one location. In planning the site, we created a hierarchical street system range, from wide, landscaped boulevards connecting the development areas to narrow streets and alleys in the residential villages.

;OL�YVHK�SH`V\[Z�PU�[OL�YLZPKLU[PHS�]PSSHNLZ�]HY`�PU�[OL�KPɈLYLU[�ULPNOIV\YOVVKZ��I\[�[OL�NLULYHS�strategy is a general curving grid punctuated by parks, monuments, ponds and common buildings that act as focal points. We opened the design up to the existing municipal lake, HUK�MVYNLK�JVUULJ[PVUZ�[V�ULPNOIV\YPUN�OPNO^H`�HUK�ZLJVUKHY`�Z[YLL[Z��SVJH[PUN�[OL�KPɈLYLU[�buildings in a way that demonstrates the value of good communication and the sharing of the main public spaces on an equal social basis.

The site, covering 10 hectares (24,7 acres), includes several residential buildings alongside, housing a lake and a natural park. The master plan is an attempt to rediscover a culture of mixed use, encouraging the integration of cleaner surrounding industries into residential neighbourhoods and exploring the potential of greener, more ecologically sensitive structures in VYKLY�[V�JYLH[L�H�Z\Z[HPUHISL�\YIHU�JVTT\UP[ �̀�-P]L�VYNHUPZH[PVUHS�NLULYH[VYZ�^LYL�PKLU[PÄLK�in the urban design: The existing highway that interconnects the project with surrounding site. An existing municipal lake was projected to be revitalized as a landmark for the site. The proposed linear park of 10% plot area, creating new open space in the tradition of Indian parks and squares. We were commissioned to create new residential buildings which take an equally radical approach in its form and ecology.

The project stands on a sprawling 70 acres (28 Ha) plot, with 5 million sq. feet building facilities. It combines elements of traditional Indian architecture with modern design. The campus locates 12 software engineering buildings on a lavish scale, varying in height (eight of 5 and four of 7 storeys), and they will home 22,000 IT professionals plus 8,000 other professionals. They will be located 6 in each side of the central spine of 400 mts. Long and 42 mts. High. Each block has two wings connected through bridges leading to the two central core structures which house the elevator lobby. The two wings and the cores structures are covered with expansive umbrellas structures which, when viewed from atop, resembles a large I\[[LYÅ �̀�;OL�¸JLU[YHS�ZWPUL¹�¶�H�YLTHYRHISL�HYJOP[LJ[\YHS�MLH[\YL�PZ�H�TPUK�IVNNSPUN�Z[Y\J[\YL��covered with a multiple 3 dimensional umbrella structure. With water bodies, palm trees and, landscaping, this central spine will be an area for associates to relax and recharge themselves.

The strong horizontal lines of external and internal continuous balconies reinforce a sense of visual order along the composition.
